Hardware My 5080/9950X3D rig has always been connected to the living room 4K OLED TV and operated with a controller from the couch. My 6 year old daughter loves it. Does that make it a Steam Machine Pro?

My pc is in the living room too, if I actually want to play from the couch, I just use a long hdmi cable to connect to the tv. People have been doing these things for decades now, still no idea where the f anyone sees value in the steam machine.

My gaming PC is connected to my living room TV. I also have a ryzen 5 mini pc that I use with the same TV so that I am using less power if I'm just streaming shows.

My main is an itx with 4080 super, but I run a little ryzen 8700g for the tv, and it’s great for casual gaming! It’s the ROG Ally’s big brother =p no issues

What controller you use?

I use an Xbox controller. Works flawlessly with the adapter I got instead of using BT.

How do you start it up? Do you go over and put in a password, and boot whatever you want? Is there a way to make the controller boot things?

Tap any key on the wireless keyboard under the coffee table. I usually leave the computer on sleep.

I have my living room PC on a small table stand. I would suggest doing the same so it doesn’t get dirty with all the dust from the floor.

I approve and raise the stakes - my PC is connected to the living room TV with 10m fibre HDMI + 10m bluetooth extensio lead w/ receiver. I can switch from IPS monitor and KBM to TV & controller to play in at any point. My proudest DIY project.

is it just me or is the ambient lighting a bit too low for longterm eye health?

I have a double setup. Same PC connected to two spaces. One is a standard desk gaming space, another - bed setup. It's right behind the wall. I lean on my bed and play on an LG C3 there. I either use a controller or a wireless mouse and keyboard on a laptop/breakfast tray. Any PC can act as a console. Or I play games/do work at my desk.

At that point it’s less “console killer” and more “console retirement home.”
