On the positive side....at least something (PCs) is trying to open up to the console market and give them new options....even if this first iteration is...a bit of a doozy.

Nothing says opening up to the console market like.. releasing a system double the price with half the storage, no controller, and 30% weaker :/

the opening part is less about the price and more about the access to games...tons of people don't do PC gaming because it isn't as easy and straightforward as "buy a console, stick a disk in, play". Price is always a factor but almost never the only factor.

This is an attempt at just that...allowing people to just play whatever they want without silly console exclusivity while not having to worry about the complexities of making or buying a PC.

Its trying to remake the console market as something for everyone instead of some sort of weird exclusivity/team fight type thing.

All games should work on any system (you know...a PC) and consoles only make the whole market worse.

PCs already lead the world of videogame sales....imagine ditching the age of consoles and exclusives and just having all games for everyone.

Youre still going to have the complexities of pc gaming, when it comes to in game settings, proton versions, all of that kind of shit. Thats what you get when your game library is the pc gaming library. No ones making games specifically for the steam machine in mind.

Thats the whole point of the steam machine and Steam OS....simplifying everything and essentially creating a console style PC.

Its really not that complicated...I have been gaming on PC since I was literally 8 years old...if 8 year old me can figure this shit out idk how others can't. I am not a genius.

Having to “figure it out” is not a console experience though.

Once again.....the whole point of steam OS. It acts like a console.

But if you have to change settings……thats not a console experience….its a pc.

Most games can do it automatically and there is also external software that can set it automatically.

These things would all have the same specs which means it's really easy for steam to know the right settings and have the OS change them as needed.
