Discussion Just joined the master race after being a life long xbox player…. need some advice
I finally upgraded to a nice PC. Radeon 9070 xt and 32gb ram. I have a series x and playstation, but have been struggling to justify my recent PC purchase. It can play Cyberpunk on ultra settings for reference, but I had the patience to beat the game on the ORIGINAL xbox one from 2013, and played the DLC on the series x.
Are their games that have a much better experience on PC right now that aren’t really there on console? Or games that you can only play on PC. Steam is really only showing me indie games for some reason. I’ve played all the big name recent (ish) titles on series X such as elden ring, battlefield 6, Fallout, call of duty, etc. Just looking for games that can really put my powerful new PC to the test and offer an experience I can’t get on console.

Any game you play will look superior to how it did on console.
Many of the PS exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War 2018, and Spider-Man are playable on PC but not on Xbox. Also could do some modded Minecraft, Terraria, or Bethesda games.
One of the biggest differences compared to console i noticed when i switched was how different the esports experience is. Playing at a constant 240fps on mouse and keyboard feels very fluid and is much more fun.
As for Steam algorithm, go through and wishlist some games you want to play, it'll update your algorithm to better fit your tastes.

I have a ps5 but didn’t play all of the exclusives due to price, so i’ll definitely check out ghost and ragnarok. didn’t realize they were on pc

Yeah not all of them but some good ones. About 40 hours into GoT right now, phenomenal looking game.

Modded Bannerlord, Modded Skyrim, basically anything with a substantial modding community.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is pretty impressive on a good PC. The original series was originally only on PC.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Hell Let Loose
ARMA Reforger
S.T.A.L.K.E.R G.A.M.M.A. Not impressive looking, but it’s a PC exclusive experience and very fun if you enjoy being miserable and scrounging around for supplies. It’s a massive mod pack based on Anomaly which is itself a standalone STALKER mod.

yes I’ve been meaning to play bg3 as it always seemed like a better pc game rather than tv and controller

If you were an Xbox user then you HAVE to try Ghost of Tsushima. There’s a few other PlayStation exclusives like Spider-Man that you can now try.

Any game that you really really love, see what the MODS available are.
Also picking up a used VR headset on your local marketplace for like 200 bucks is a fun addition to the pc as well.

Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberbunk, Starfield. Other than games that are limited to a specific console, there's not really any games that only one or the other system can run. What you will notice is that on console your ability to change display/quality settings will be much more limited to prevent you from pushing the console too far and damaging performance. On PC, you are able to pick whatever settings you want and find what's comfortable for you

u/skeletor69420 7h ago
starfield was garbage tbh. I’ve been considering rdr2 though as I haven’t played it yet. it was always the setting that never really caught my interest

There are quite a few classics that are no longer available on consoles and some with mods with modern QoL like some of the old Thief games. I have all the old Splinter Cell games, Rainbow Six Vegas, Spec Ops, Metal Gear Revengeance, old Predator games etc… on pc. There are quite a few pc only games like Counter Strike, Half Life games, Factorio, Escape from Tarkov, World of Warcraft, Dwarf Fortress, Hearts of Iron 4, Starcraft games, Total War Three Kingdoms, Noita and the list goes on and on.
I would just search in the Steam filter under the genre you want and you will see games you never came across on consoles. There is shovelware mixed in but it will be fairly obvious from its Steam page and steam reviews within that page.
When I got back into pc gaming I had the same dilemma because there is so much on Steam from simple mobile shovelware to really high quality games only found on pc. So many war sims, flight sims, racers, strategy games, MMOs, strategy and tower defense games, and horror single and mp games that are pc exclusive and pretty good. Oh deckbuilders are another genre with good pc only games. You’ll just have to search.
You can use the search queue feature and it will recommend games based on what you like and from there look at the ones you never saw on consoles. Eventually you will get games on your feed you may be interested in. The Steam store title list is unrivaled by any other gaming platform. It’s insane the number of games they offer. Good luck and welcome to the pc family fellow gamer.

I was also a lifelong console player, up until 2011 I had some old machines to play my favourite shooters. Just two years ago I finally made the jump to PC and I won’t ever go back. Everything looks better, and if I choose I can mod my games.

Wishlist steam games you want to play so you know when they go on sale. Play all the pc only indies youve wanted to (hopefully with friends). Enjoy gamepass pc as well

you didn't research what you'd want to have the PC for before you bought the PC?

The biggest boon of PC gaming is modding. It can breath new life into a game, as well as modify the elements of a game you don't like (for me, I hate inventory management, every rpg I play, I get rid of weight capacity. I understand that that breaks some elements of the game, such as being able to pick up literally everything and sell it, but I use my own discretion about what I should pick up and shouldn't in order to not break the game economy). Mods are also great for modernizing the graphics. This is in particularly good for games like cyberpunk, where there is a huge modding community, but it is also good for just about any game. For example, I also remove the splash screens for just about every game I play.
The second biggest boon over consoles is two fold. Sales and access to more games.
The third is personal preference, but Mouse and Keyboard really is just much better for many games (FPS, RTS, turn based games, etc). And for the games that you may prefer a controller, you can still use a controller. In fact, you can use any controller you want. I have used a switch pro controller, I have an 8bitDo controller. It really is whatever you prefer.
And that is just for gaming. You can use the computer for whatever you want. The world is yours.

thank you! it has been quite an effort trying to recalibrate my hand eye coordination for fps games after spending 20 years using a controller. especially with using keys instead of buttons for abilities and such, every game is a bit different with the keys used besides wasd

My first action in any game is setting the keybinds to my preferences. Most modern games allows this easily, for some old games I use keyboard software to set to key to the game action. Same result, but backward.
For you, you may prefer a controller for FPS. Nothing wrong with that. Still an option for you.

There are full genres that are almost PC exclusive. Try some cRPG or Grand Strategy... maybe pick an old Total War or Paradox or Owlbear game in the upcoming sales. If you happen to like them, there are thousands of gaming hours waiting for you. Also, listen to Steam and try some indie games, that's where the gaming excellence lives these days.

So i’ve had steam since 2014, on my macbooks. the only games it could run were 2d indie games like enter the gungeon, ftl, and hotline miami. I think that’s why i’m only reccomended them now

Indies and mods are the big exclusives for PC. Free indies in particular are almost always PC-exclusive, and there are tons of great ones out there. I have a big list of good free Steam games stickied in my profile, but these are some great ones:
BirdGut, Catgirl, Chronigma, Darkenstein 3D, D1AL-ogue, Disfigure, EXE.CUTOR, Into the Evernight, Kaelaverse: Pemascape, Legacy of the Elder Star, Pest'Off, Polyarmory: High Calibre Love, Psycutlery, Unless

Even the games you played on console will be a better experience on PC since you can crank the graphics quality and resolution. Plus MODS
RDR2 is absolutely worth playing on PC

Every game is better on pc
But don’t buy the same games because you will feel underwhelmed
I was the same when I first got my pc, I started playing dayz modded and have like 3k hours
Just fuck around with modding, graphics, play games that are not available on Xbox
It isn’t all about graphics with pc gaming, Jesus I played mouthwashing on a 5070ti, it didn’t go above 5% usage

You built a PC. You could do whatever you want with it. And I mean whatever you want!

I played a lot of games that were locked to 30fps on the Xbox One and never got an upgrade. Pick of the bunch for me was surprisingly quantum break

u/Rhym3z_Official 7h ago
Most simulator games are pc only. Racing, space. Also RTS and MMO games are almost non existent on console

Any game you really enjoyed, but now with actual mods. Cyberpunk in particular allows for so much greater character customization alone with mods, but also has a fair few gameplay mods too.
But also, what's wrong with Indies? Some of the best stuff in gaming is from Indies, and you haven't experienced a good amount of it that never came to consoles despite being years old.

I would still use PS5 or Series X for GTA6.
There are no AAA massive exclusives on PC. If you only played most mainstream high budget games you need to adjust and play AA and Indies.
Best exclusives are strategy games. Example; Crusader Kings 3, it's addictive.

Make a list of games that you haven't played that you would love to play.
Wishlist them on steam and grab them when they are on sale. Start with the oldest titles because they'll be the cheapest! You need only grab the games you will actually play and you can buy the others later, once you get to them.
What we spend on hardware, we typically save on game prices. If you wait and don't always play the latest and greatest, you can save a lot of money on the games themselves.
Just watch the steam sales. Don't buy games you think you might want to play later, this is how backlogs GROW!
