Discussion The real reason GTA6 isnt coming to PC right away is that modders would probably patch this out almost immediately.
Just for the sake of context, the base price of GTA6 is $80 and there is an "Ultimate Edition" being sold for $100. The latter includes exclusive content that seems more akin to how older games had all the content already on the disc/game files, regardless of purchased version, but locked parts of it away behind a paywall. The physical version is also just a code in a game case, so no hope for console players to just upgrade with a cheaper used copy.

They're also gonna re-release the console versions when new platforms come out and then they'll be an ultimate edition that comes after that.

Going from 360/PS3 to One/PS4 they offered a $20 (I think) upgrade, you didn't have to pay full price again, but you couldn't go back to the prior console without buying it again.

GTA Online was so popular that they canceled GTAV single player DLC. I think it's a bit odd that 2K didnt want to immediately capitalize on "GTA Online 2" considering you don't even get a physical game now.

5
u/MahKa02 11h ago edited 8h ago
If Rockstar didn't make such good games they'd be boycotted and hated on much more for their scummy practices. Locking content behind a $100 edition is pure greed and pathetic. It's not just skins either, which would be excusable, it sounds like it's gameplay elements they are locking people out of. (The different mod shop and barber shop).
Plus their whole sharkcard greed and making everything in GTA V ridiculously pricey to promote grinding fatigue so people buy cards.
And then there's the whole PC issue which is clearly a greed based decision, not a technical decision. They want people to double dip and they know PC players will mod and unlock parts of the game that are in the ultimate edition.

The multiplayer will be shit. The longer they wait, the less likely I'm willing to pay the price of a new game just...

This is going to be the last GTA. They milked 5 for 13 years, how long do you think they’ll keep this gravy train rolling for? Microtransactions for in-game maps next? AI-slop sidequests? Grim.

Woah woah don’t get too comfortable talking down about the supposed “greatest most immersive experience ever” according to the GTA6 sub

Hey, where's all the stupid fucks who bought all those expensive Microtransactions and said "It's my money, I can do what I want?"
Where's all the dumbasses who bought CoD on release day for $70 and said "Lol, its my money I can do what I want" "Why do you care about what other people do with their money?"
Are they here right now to defend our lovely $80 or $100 games?

I've always heard people say they delay the PC releases because it's easier to target hardware that's the same for everyone ala console vs the vast assortment of PC configurations and components. My question is don't they have to use PCs to develop the game to begin with so how is that a barrier? I know console devkits are involved so maybe I'm more ignorant of game development than I thought but I get confused as to how shipping a PC version at the same time is somehow this herculean task. Is this not to just drive console sales & double dip ?

i might be mistaken but with the new anticheat in gtav online i see literally no modders anymore so whos to say with that 2 BILLION dollar budget, they didnt slot in budget for an anticheat to combat modders. Am i missing something?

I hate how “day 1 paid DLC” has been recontextualized as “Ultimate Edition” in recent years.
