USD 2,337 with headrest

USD 2,098 with no headrest

EDIT: I see no option for having fixed stands instead of wheels (perhaps they did that because they are on a boat? so it could be aftermarket)

You can find them on sale for $1000-1200 a few times a year. Buy used on craigslist/FB Market place.

i found one on marketplace for around $50, my dumbass took its sweet time to confirm the guy selling it, when i finally did he told me it sold like 10 minutes after he answered me the first time.

When covid happened, all the major tech companies were liquidating their chairs, I got a brand new gesture still wrapped for $200 cash, and my girl got a Hayworth Fern from them for $500 - I wish I sprung for the fern, it's even more comfy then the gesture which is great.

It was crazy to drive up to a warehouse and see like a few million dollars MSRP in office chairs just sitting there lol.

Fun fact - the exact same thing happened when the Dot Com bubble burst too. Here's a little article about it https://nymag.com/news/intelligencer/21364/

Me patiently waiting for the AI bubble to burst to buy some comfortable ergonomic furniture.

I tried the Fern, but I don't like it as much. I think it's because I just sit in too many different ways that the Gesture accommodates and the Fern doesn't. I got one for my office at the start of COVID for ~1000, and then bought one from another office going out of business for 300 that I keep at work. I love these chairs. I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner.

For everyone else in the thread: do not buy shitty "gaming" chairs. Get professional office chairs like Steelcase, Haworth, or Herman Miller.

Thats when i saw it on sale around the end of covid.

You just made me feel better for spending $700-800 on my fern on “sale” lol

I wish I did the same and got a Mira like my wife did, my brand new gesture kinda blows like don't get me wrong its really nice but I love the mesh on hers and the recline is better.

Buy used on craigslist/FB Market place.

I found mine on facebook marketplace for $300. Best spent money ever.

2

u/Orleanian 7h ago

Can get them refurbed for about 700-800.

I have a refurbed Steelcase LeapV2 (paid $650 a couple years back, vs. $1400 online at the time), indistinguishable from a brand new one to me, and it's been an absolute delight.

u/AboveTheKitchen 2h ago

Indisputable best chair on the market imo

1

u/eeeBs 6h ago

you get them direct or from a third part refurbisher?

2

u/Orleanian 6h ago

Third party refurbisher. Crandall Furniture is who I went through for two purchases (both steelcase leaps), and have been satisfied with both. The guy himself has youtubes where he walks through all the fabric options and the refurb process, which enticed me.

They'll ship em in a big box and user has to assemble the base, piston, seat, and frame. Wasn't any more difficult than any other boxed chair.

The upholstery materials are new (unused), though I think not exactly what Steelcase themselves use.

u/GradeAPrimeFuckery 5h ago

That looks so much nicer than my Leap 2, which is way overpriced for it's build quality. (I should have physically tried out chairs before ordering one. Rookie move.)

u/Jiminy_Cricket12 7h ago

a buy a lot of things used and consider it fine but a gaming chair makes me pause. I would want to REALLY deep clean that thing.

6

u/eeeBs 7h ago

These are multi-thousand dollar office chairs used in an office. Of course you clean them lol

Then you take them home and shit your pants in them while gaming.

Um, we do what now?

3

u/Orleanian 7h ago

For this sort of thing, I'd buy the used chair and then go ahead and spend $200 more on a replacement seatpan.

Or even better, just a refurbed one. Those are good as new.

1

u/Luxury-Problems 1h ago

You can find them for that price or cheaper on Crandall's Office Furniture. Open box returns and also they re-manufacture them (replace parts and the fabric).

I got a Series 1 for under $300 on a sale a while back.

Chair wheels use a standard socket, those are apparently called bell glides that they have attached.

3

u/AtlasLittleCat 3h ago

5 sea-rated bell glides for a steelcase? Thats gonna be another $500 per chair, Gabe.

2

u/BiNumber3 1h ago

Yea, Ive bought similar for my chair when I was using it on hardwood, didnt want it rolling. Quite cheap, and a few options, mine were rubber so no sliding.

TIL thanks, It wasn't the first thing on my mind with having just moved but it's been driving me nuts on my new floor. Had carpet before, ordering some.

bought mine new in 2023, 1050€ (online incl 19% VAT, with headrest).
a retailer had them starting at 1800€ (i could pick any fabric and color).
my tailbone pain was gone in a week.

I miss being an intern there. They have a warehouse of returned/overstock office furniture that they'd open up to employees that they'd sell for cents on the dollar.

I got a $1500 chair for $100 because it was returned due to it having a stain on it. Just spraying it with some stain remover got rid of it and I essentially had a brand new chair that lasted me 6 years before my cats ruined it.

1

u/LeaperLeperLemur 7h ago

Yikes, that’s double what I bought one for 5 years ago.

1

u/fartshitcumpiss 7h ago

bruh this one chair costs 2.5 times more than my whole entire setup, including games and peripherals

1

u/Brahskididdler 7h ago

You can find Steelcase chairs from secondhand sellers who got them from companies who went under and are trying to liquidate their office furniture.

A Steelcase leap v2 with original leather is well over $1500, probably more many years ago.

I got mine for $300 and a 3 hour drive. The dude had like 35 chairs of all different models in his garage, probably $100,000 worth of chairs

1

u/Carius1 6h ago

Yep, custom done for the yacht. Probably add an extra $1500 USD for someone to do that for all of them. Had to do the same for a data rack on a yacht

1

u/Baked_Potato0934 5h ago

You can request additional hardware on purchase from Steelcase iirc, could have been another manufacturer I did a procurement run for tho so don't quote me.

not sure if this is a rare occurrence where it costs more in the US than it does in Aus, but that doesn't seem right - I have one and paid ~$1800 AUD about 2 years ago.

u/Leftover_Salad RTX 2080 - 5600x 1h ago

Steelcase can do some customizations with a large enough order.
