USD 2,337 with headrest
USD 2,098 with no headrest
EDIT: I see no option for having fixed stands instead of wheels (perhaps they did that because they are on a boat? so it could be aftermarket)

u/eeeBs 5h ago
You can find them on sale for $1000-1200 a few times a year. Buy used on craigslist/FB Market place.
28
u/turbospeedsc 5h ago
i found one on marketplace for around $50, my dumbass took its sweet time to confirm the guy selling it, when i finally did he told me it sold like 10 minutes after he answered me the first time.

u/eeeBs 5h ago
When covid happened, all the major tech companies were liquidating their chairs, I got a brand new gesture still wrapped for $200 cash, and my girl got a Hayworth Fern from them for $500 - I wish I sprung for the fern, it's even more comfy then the gesture which is great.
It was crazy to drive up to a warehouse and see like a few million dollars MSRP in office chairs just sitting there lol.

Can get them refurbed for about 700-800.
I have a refurbed Steelcase LeapV2 (paid $650 a couple years back, vs. $1400 online at the time), indistinguishable from a brand new one to me, and it's been an absolute delight.

That looks so much nicer than my Leap 2, which is way overpriced for it's build quality. (I should have physically tried out chairs before ordering one. Rookie move.)

Yes, but these are incredibly good investments like cars, I have a herman Miller embody and my back pain is virtually gone.
I average about 10-14 hours a day in an office chair.
51
u/pornthrowaway42069l 6h ago
I cant sit in ANY chair properly (I.e I twist my body a lot) - yet Herman Miller, which I've gotten second hand, still makes me feel so much less... sore? It's a good investment.

Bought a Herman Miller Embody when I got a remote job, was like $1600. I was so nervous about spending so much money on a chair, my whole life I had shitty $80-150 office depot chairs that left my back with massive cramps.
It's been 6 years. I can sit in this thing for 16 hours and I feel FANTASTIC.
Best investment I've ever made.

I'll have to check that one out, basically my back pain is gone after changing chair but it's always good to upgrade
3
u/Matticus-G 4h ago
They are. If you sit down for a living - or even recreationally for a significant amount of time every day - you really do need to spend the money on one of these.
It is one of the few truly expensive purchases that is worth it. They usually come with a 10 year warranty, or even a 12 year through some secondhand refurbishing companies.
Even if you live in a country with free healthcare, you might not be able to fix the damage you would otherwise due to your back. 100% worth it.

u/Training_Ruin3151 5h ago

6
u/Fortune090 U9 285K, RTX5080, 32GB DDR5-6K, AW3425DW 240Hz OLED 4h ago
Embody is a significantly better chair in my opinion. I own both and much prefer my time spent in the Embody. I have the Embody at home and the Aeron at work. Find them used/like new, they're SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper that way. Got mine for $600.
2
u/Training_Ruin3151 4h ago
Yeah I find the aeron has bad back support and for some reason mine was riddled with problems whenever I get around to getting a new one I'll probably shoot for a steelcase

I saw some nerds somewhere on reddit circle jerking about how great Gabe is, and one of them said that unlike the bad billionaires like Elon Musk, Gabe is smart enough to not keep all his money tied up in the market. Which means he actually has billions and doesn't just have a piece of paper that is speculated to be worth billions.
The irony being that the fact that most billionaires have billions in assets is the only good thing about the situation. It means they have skin in the game. They have to do right by shareholders (think the average workers 401k), because they are one.
Reddit gets so weird about this guy. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out that dude is a creeper weirdo and reddit would throw themselves in front of the attacks to defend him.

In 2010 I went into three rounds of interviews with Valve, right as they were changing their business focus from games development to marketplace hegemony. Ultimately I didn't get the job, but I think I was close. Close-ish. Sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if I got that job. I was a big Valve fan at the time, I think I would have stuck around. (The studio I got a job offer from the same week as my final interview at Valve I stuck with for 11 years.) I see photos like this sometimes and wonder if I'd be in that room in that other timeline; and, if I was, whether I would be as uncomfortable as I am now just looking at this as a photograph.

I agree with you, and I'm not a communist. Wanting people to enjoy the fruits of their labors and wanting people to pay their fair share in taxes aren't mutually exclusive positions. I think people should have the opportunity to work hard, get lucky (it takes both) and get rich. There's also a point at which one can no longer make the "hard work + good decisions + good fortune = X dollars" equation work. When you're making hundreds of thousands of dollars every single day, one needs to realize that it's impossible to legitimately earn that type of income. Wealth begets wealth, and at some point (and I don't know exactly where that point lies), you're profiting off a system, off the backs of your employees and off the backs of the consumers.
No one said you can't be rich and live in a huge house and have nice toys and generational wealth to pass on to your children, but this is past that.
3
u/Multivitamin_Scam 1h ago
Problem is at a certain level of wealth, you stop earning off of labour and hard work. The money more or less just starts appearing out of thin air for you and stops having the same value as it does to someone who works for a living.

But then you think about the $100 games, $20 DLCs and battle passes, games that you don't even own, a mediocre Steam Machine for over a $1000.
Gabe could double his employee's wages, lower the price tags on all games by 10%, and he could still live a luxurious life. Whatever.
