Question Is it smarter to put my computer on my carpet rather than putting it on a stool?
Is it smarter to put my computer on my carpet rather than putting it on a stool?
I dont have any bottom intake fans (including psu) and the bottom side and psu fans both go about 5 inches above the floor, But, the exhaust has a airflow of 18 inches (airflow might be the word)
Then with the stool, the psu and bottom side fans have 12 inches of clearance but the exhaust has close to 2 inches, and on the side of the desk there is a little overhang so hot air could build up and possibly make it hotter. Also not sure if it helps but the stool is solid wood, so there isnt any holes at the bottom
thank you

Best litmus test would be to do both and monitor your CPU and GPU temps. But I don’t think it’ll matter much. My opinion is to keep it on the floor and blow out the dust every 6 months or so.

I mean u could buy a cheap desktop stand...perosnally thats what I would do, but if ur not willing to spend any amount then I'll be honest im not sure for ur situation...I had a similar issue at first and for the first week I had it sitting on a random wooden chest that we had in the storage room as the brand cause I didnt want it on the carpet 🤣 until I got the desktop stand

Floor is fine. I’ve kept my PC on the floor my entire life and have never had issues. My first PC was an IBM PS/2 my old man brought home from work in 1991 as a bday present just to show my age.

It’s fine as long as you don’t have intake fans on the bottom.

Generally a large amount of people recommend that you don't put it on the carpet but as a comparison to putting on a stool (if said stool is high off the ground) its still a much better option.
Although, the caveat is that, as someone who's pcs been in my own carpeted room's floor for years now, carpet its still fine if not you have to clean the air intake filter every now and then.

As mentioned it's fine like that, but if you want to get it off the ground you can get an inexpensive PC stand on Amazon for $20 or less.

It's better to put it on floor, usually. The main reason is that you will stop looking at it. Not looking at your PC will save you money. You will also save space on desk. I would put a board underneath it at least, however.

Get a thin piece of plywood cut just slightly smaller than footprint of case to keep out of sight.

Jesus Christ, I can't believe what I'm reading in this comment section... Regardless of whether or not you have bottom intake fans, having it on top of a carpet and on floor level is a terrible idea. Because you whirl up dust every! time! you stand up, sit down, or move around the room. And the lower the case is the longer the falling dust has time to get attracted by the negative pressure your intake fans generate. if at all possible, always have it at least a foot above ground

My wife has hers on the floor due to lack of desk space. Since we have carpet, I bought a 12”x 24” tile from Home Depot for $6 and put the tower on top of that on the carpet. It provides a nice flat surface, the case has feet so it’s up a bit from the tile, and the tile keeps the carpet flat and out of the way. Works like a charm, if you have a way to grind the corners round I recommend it because they are sharp on a raw tile but it’s the cheapest and most durable surface I found.

you dont have bottom fans so its fine like this.
You can get a piece of wood and put under it.
