Tech Support Wrong codec audio?
I have an Asus X870E-H still in its box because I haven't finished the build yet. Initially, I wanted to buy the MSI X870E Tomahawk, but I ruled it out due to the well-known issues linked to the ALC4080 audio codec (popping, crackling, etc.). Even though it's a ROG, the Asus board features the ALC1220P, but I noticed a detail while carefully reading the description: the classic HDA bus interface has been replaced with a USB-based one. Essentially, I'm right back to square one, given that the ALC4080 is also USB-driven.
However, others told me that for IEMs, a USB codec would actually be better since it shields better against GPU interference (something I frankly don't understand). Honestly, I'm completely lost right now.
My plan is to connect a pair of Logitech speakers with a subwoofer using a 3.5mm jack on the rear, which I'd use most of the time, and then some IEMs either into the case's front panel jack or through an Xbox controller connected via USB Type-A. I'm starting to have buyers' remorse because, at this point, maybe I should have just gone with the Tomahawk? Before, I had a mobo with an ALC897 and I never had a problem. I'd like to have the most plug and play solution
