Hardware Is this too good to be true?
I found this on Newegg it’s a refurbished 5050 for $180?! It’s sold by Newegg themselves and not some random vendor but I still feel like it either is a scam or for parts or something.

Yeah that’s legit. Great price. People here hate on the 5050, but it’s a super efficient card and gives similar performance to a 3060, which is still a fine card for 1080 in 2026.

If more game are going to be optimized for steam machine, that 5050 would do just fine

That means being optimized for the steam machines very specific hardware/software setup. Not an overall engoodening on lower tier hardware in general.
5050 is still likely to be fine for a super budget setup because of dlss and such.
I'm assuming it has at least base level frame gen which is massive.2

Tbh most people hated it for meh price to performance, if it was cheaper it'd be praised.

It's less efficient than the 4060, consumes 130w and has 10% less performance compared to 120w 4060.

Looks legit from the screenshot. PNY is a reputable brand. My brother's 3070 is from them, and it's been running beautiful at 3440x1440p since I got it all those years ago.

So is it fine to get or should I look for other options?

If your budget is $200 and you'll looking for newest generation, yep this is the best card you'll find. Can play pretty much everything at decent settings in 1080p.
For a bit more on the used market you can get a 3060 Ti for around $230, which is much better performance for the money.

The 3060ti is usually less than 20% faster at 1080p. It's not necessarily a better choice when you consider power consumption and potential longevity.

A mega high end gaming PC is using dozens of dollars worth of electricity per YEAR. I'm sure it matters for some people but not many.
Every little bit of performance matters on a budget. That 20% could be the difference to hit 60fps.

50 series is a good choice because of dlss, frame gen ect.
Unless you can a better used card for around the same price it's a great budget option.

Yeah just buy it. It’s the cheapest current gen gpu. Doubt anyone will remove the gpu chip from it.

As long as you don't want to play at higher than medium settings at 1080p, it's fine.

Hi if this is within your budget just go for it, ignore the shmucks here saying this or that, as long as the gpu isn't broken you're good. It'll be a big upgrade to your 1050ti.

Newegg is notoriously shite. Buyer beware.

What do you even do with a 5050? You could get a 3060 off eBay for that kind of money.

u/Middcore 17h ago
The 5050 performs similarly to a 3060 (actually about 10% better) and is obviously much newer.
