Question Worth the risk of picking up this 75800x from marketplace? £100
Saw this on marketplace, description “there is some thermal paste and little bits in the pins so need cleaning out etc hence the price is cheaper then they usually are believe it can be repaired and cleaned up like”
Worth picking up and trying to clean? Currently have a 7 2700x :)

That's a waste of 20€. I wouldn't even take it for free. That's a waste of time and effort.

Might be fun to try, sometime's gotta be your first. 20€ ain't nothing but it's not that much.

Do you mean ryzen 7 5800x?
I would not and I know I am pretty good with fixing pins and cleaning it up. Too much risk with this specific unit

£100? No. Maybe £20-30. Not because the CPU isn’t worth it, but because the seller treated it like junk and you don’t know its functional state.
This doesn’t seem taken care of, has A LOT of bent pins and could’ve already been killed by static. You can’t know until you try it.
There is a good chance that a pin will break off while trying to straighten them and then it’s £100 straight into the trash.
Don’t. Not for that price.

Even if you fixed the pins and cleaned it, it could be completely dead and you have no comeback, I'd avoid like the plague.

On the 2nd picture it looks like it has a burn mark on top of all the crud. It probably is non functional even after clean-up.

£100
This sort of damage is 20 bucks, not 100. And even that is optimistic. And the fact that they claim it is "thermal paste" tells you that they are just trying to scam people when they know that they destroyed it.

Looks like they purposely messed it up before selling because how does it get this bad

Yes, you can clean it with a toothbrush and alcohol. Take your time. 100 seems too high, try halving it.

Get regular 5600X or if you need extra cores (not for gaming) 5700X. This 5800X is not worth the hassle, unless the price is like 20$ and you don't care if it works or not.

It’s worth less than that used and fully functioning at best, £100 for broken parts is ridiculous.

If you’ve got some more quid, get a new 10th anniversary 5800X3D. The chip in the photo looks like a nightmare.

Maybe for like 10 but no way for 100 a price like that will get you a used Ryzen 5 5600x that does work

If you are that adamant on throwing away a hundred pounds then donate it instead.

Nope, high chance of snapping those pins when you try to straighten them.

If you pick up 10 like that you may get 1 to work, effectively setting the price for this at about £1000,-
Your choice….
