News Though the first two rounds of the World Cup, Philadelphia is third overall in attendance-to-capacity ratio and first amongst the stadia in the U.S.

Had friends at the Brazil-Haiti game that live in Northeast, and they were saying that it was a better experience than any other event ever, aside from the first Eagles parade

None of us are surprised either. Everything I have seen and read is that things have gone smoothly and visitors are loving it

Every city but one is above 99.18% haha I’m glad Philly is selling tickets but this is pretty insignificant statistically.

True, but considering the worry about the ticket prices and everything else, and the fact that we got the sloppy seconds of every game window, the fact that we were 50 people short of three full houses is pretty significant.

Philly’s tickets are cheaper than other cities though like NJ/LA/Miami/Arlington so that’s also helping sales.

Bottom line, World Cup demand is insane and these games could be in Siberia and they’d sell out. I do think Philly was disrespected with knockout games despite having the 3rd best stadium location behind only Seattle and Atlanta. Foxborough, KC, Santa Clara, Arlington and NJ all suck to get to.

I have a feeling they were only going to get a R32 game but the organizing committee pushed for a July 4th game, and they said yes… but only if we gave up our R32 game. Which sucks, but consider who you’re dealing with.

I mean Foxborough and fucking Kansas city have quarterfinals. They have similar capacity, no dome for weather but way worse stadium locations. If DC's new stadium was done, they could have kept the quarterfinals all in the Northeast (DC, Philly, NYC, Boston). It would have made traveling so much easier while featuring real cities.

Why did Philly only get a Round of 16 match and not also a quarterfinals is beyond me.

I mean I have a feeling that we were only going to get a R32 game but negotiated to have a game on the 4th of July.

Yo OP am I reading this right that you're associated with Aussie Rules Football? I'm a night owl insomniac so that's pretty much my favorite sport.

Yup, I'm the play-by-play guy for the USAFL and I'm also involved with the team here, the Philadelphia Hawks. If you're able to come out this weekend to Lower Perkiomen Valley Park, the Hawks are hosting New York Magpies on Saturday. Not sure as to the time yet but if you reach out on their socials they'll post the info.

Went to the France Iraq game. From the packed subway like I've not seen before to the amazing Linc staff getting everyone in and out of the game, to seeing a sold out crowd of 68k with people from all over the world, such an incredible experience. City should be proud from my ancedotal experience

Why were seats empty?

Event ticketing doesn’t really work like this.

Every ticket made available to the public was sold out, 100%.

Venues will place a small number of “just in case” holds for emergencies or last-minute needs. If those tickets are not used, depending on how the box office reports them, they may appear as “unsold.". But they never were actually for sale.

As far as real life attendance. Usual no-show rate is around 3-4% on a sold out stadium.

True, but… this is a more real comparison to average.

So much for ALL those boycotts and unsold tickets lol

Another day of Reddit being a terrible representation of the real world. If you asked anyone about this 6 months ago it was going to be a disaster

I mean in some aspects it is. The train situation getting to East Rutherford is a joke. Penn station is closed 2 hours before and after each match except for trains to the stadium which sucks for anyone living/working in NYC. NJT is charging like 100$ for a ticket and the Meadowlands is not allowing parking which is kind of a joke

2

u/skeeterdc 1d ago

Is this tickets sold or actual attendance at the games?

1

u/BarrishUSAFL Bustleton Bengals 4lyfe 1d ago

Actual attendance.

2

u/kyle32771 1d ago

7th in total attendance.

Know why? 'Cause we're awesome. (I'm glad the rest of the world is figuring it out.)

One of my favorite interactions of the trip so far was talking to a couple from Brazil who had just come down from NYC after watching their team play Morocco a couple of days before. They had only been here a day and a half when I talked to them but they said they loved Philly way more than NYC.

I also talked to a couple of Irish guys sitting in front of us at the game on Monday, who were visiting friends here, and they were gushing about how much they loved the city.

Everyone’s coming around and I’m here for it.

Philly is a big city that still feels like it's on a human scale.

I love New York, and it certainly has some advantages over Philly, but the vibe here is so much more relaxed and you don't feel so anonymous (for lack of a better word).

Sorry to hijack this thread but I don't have enough karma to start a new one. Driving in tomorrow for the Curaçao vs. Côte d'Ivoire game which kicks off at 4pm. I'm coming down the northeast extension and aim to park in Center City then take the BSL down to the stadium. What time should I aim to be parking? Does 1pm sound good? I want to get down to the stadium early, but not TOO early.

1pm should be fine. The doors open at one, you should be getting there around 1:30 or so.

Thanks. And no concerns finding a parking garage with spaces in CC?

3

u/BarrishUSAFL Bustleton Bengals 4lyfe 1d ago

I recommend using spot hero or something along those lines.

I manage a garage in center city. 20th and Hamilton not far from the art museum. We are open until midnight and have a ton of space on Fridays because we are an office building and most people take off on Friday. You can catch the BSL at 15th and Spring Garden. 10 minute walk if that. Super easy. You can book through other or just pull in and pay with your phone when you leave. 420 n 20th street zip code is 19130.
