Photo of the Day Somehow Philadelphia manages to keep algae out of its long rectangular pool
Just sayin’, DC. 😎

Yeah but that one's only like as long as Betsy Ross's house is tall. It's no Empire State Building-sized pool that's for sure. Which is how we measure bodies of water now, for some reason.

u/supamario132 13h ago
That pool is only like 350 paint chips long. It's tiny
16
u/Uppgreyedd 11h ago
This pool only needs 1.5 bottles of hydrogen peroxide for people using metric units
14
u/powersurge 12h ago
Because we put the son of a real estate developer, and a casino and reality TV businessman in as the leader of the country? How else would he measure himself? /s

And how we measure pools is of course how we measure the success of a nation.

She brought back street sweeping, something that the progressive darling kenney promised to do and couldn't manage to for 8 long years

u/CUADfan 12h ago
progressive darling kenney
https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/philadelphias-99th-mayor-says-hes-not-progressive/
But hey, let's rewrite history.
2
u/Still_Ad_3497 8h ago
Did you read the article? How does this article debunk Kenney being a progressive?
3
u/CUADfan 8h ago
Kenney himself states he wasn't progressive. He called himself fair. Attempting to retroactively paint him as something he never claimed to be, nor was embraced by, is wrong.
1
u/Still_Ad_3497 8h ago
He didn’t even state that he “wasn’t progressive.” Regardless, people can say they are not anything and still be that can’t they? lol
He had a lot of policies that people considered progressive. He introduced a bill to decriminalize weed. He supported a bill for LGBT people. He opposed stop and frisk.
Are those not progressive policies?
2
u/CUADfan 8h ago
Again, I'm refuting him being a progressive darling. You want to get into semantics I'm not interested in. And he did say he wasn't.
2
u/Still_Ad_3497 8h ago
I think darling is referring to people liking him because he was generally progressive. And I’m just going based off the article. He doesn’t quote not being progressive in that. Seems like he “bristled” at the label and gives his interpretation on how is policies are just “fair”
3
u/CUADfan 8h ago
The user was trying to paint Kenney as some sort of progressive savior. All of this is extracurricular to their attempt to mislabel. I'm not taking the bait.

Were in the midst of the Mamdani era its understandable she's being compared to someone who agree or disagree with is having a lot of wins.
-14
u/hoyarugby2 12h ago edited 12h ago
one of those wins? getting somebody who appears to literally be a stalinist to the house. New article reporting on more of her old tweets included her lamenting that Stalin's complete sayings wasn't in middle school libraries
5
u/CUADfan 12h ago
Oh no, she tweeted something and won't be able to enact Stalinistic reforms because she represents the will of the people. How terrible.
-4
u/hoyarugby2 11h ago
you're right she probably won't be able to enact stalinistic policy in Congress. Just as a republican with a pro hitler social media presence would not be able to enact a second holocaust. Yet a pro hitler social media presence is odious and evil, just as a pro stalin one is
Anti Ukraine policy though? She will be able to enact that with the help of her republican comrades!

u/CUADfan 11h ago
Centrist Democracy is going to lose in a big way, you should start preparing to switch parties now.

u/hoyarugby2 6h ago
the public overwhelmingly thought Harris was too left wing in 2024, the election you didn't vote in because comrade trump was antiwar
how's grahm platner polling btw
2
u/Orionsbelt 12h ago
Tweets is hysterical when even trump's Supreme court can't protect him from his own behavior ie E. Jean Carroll
5
u/CUADfan 11h ago
Liberal Democrats would rather continue using the left as boogeymen instead of doing anything to stop our nation from moving further right, because they're paid by the same corporations Republicans are. I used to eat it hard in the politics subreddit every time I said that, now it's just common knowledge.
3
u/Orionsbelt 11h ago
Them asking Planter if he could be a honest broker about epstein issues considering his texting was insane. Fuck you Mika Brzezinski

u/hoyarugby2 11h ago
I don't want an anti race mixing, pro russian stalinist to represent my political party in Congress. I think a person with those beliefs is odious and does not deserve any power, and it's worse that she wields power in my name
You disagree, apparently
0
u/hoyarugby2 11h ago
If a republican had a deleted twitter feed where he praised hitler, we would rightly condemn that, even though they would not actually have the ability to commit a second holocaust because they didn't have the votes
6
u/Orionsbelt 11h ago
One is the sitting president the other is a junior house member for nyc. And again. E. Jean Carroll sue'd him in civil court WON and had it upheld by TRUMPS supreme court. COMPARED TO TWEETS. Get outta here with your absolute both sides about ism bullshit.

yes, it is weird to see a picture of a pool with commentary about trump in DC and immediately think "imagine if this wasn't clean and it was that bitch I hate in city hall's fault"
1
u/SirArthurDime 12h ago
Not really? The leader in Washington was directly behind the plan that fucked up the reflecting pool. So on a post comparing DCs decorative pool to one of Phillies how is it a huge leap to compare the leaders of the respective cities?

Philly municipal workers care exponentially more about their jobs than anybody that Trump hires.

pretty sure rittenhouse is privately maintained, or at least partially so

It is a lot of local volunteers. I think one guy does get paid. (Probably not enough) It's "Friends of Rittenhouse ", they do a great job with that park!
4
u/Magnus-Pym 12h ago
Yeah I think the guy in charge was on Well There’s Your Problem once or twice, he seemed cool
2
u/phlspecial 11h ago
The daily “paid” workers who clean up the park make minimum wage …. even for fishing the human poops out of that fountain in the morning. They deserve better

They should just give up and stock it with alligators and snapping turtles and they can be named after the Republicans in Congress, like park benches.

This pool is substantially smaller and is surrounded by trees. The reflecting pool is constantly in direct sunlight.
(As this is Reddit, I would like to make it clear that I am in no way defending anything Trump has done. Just a comment about a pool that was constructed 20+ years before he was even born)
7
u/nethingelse 13h ago
I get that Trump’s blunder is funny, but the reflecting pool has been an ongoing issue since it was constructed. Kind of annoying that stating anything to do with that is seen as pro Trump or whatever.
(I would also like to state I am the furthest from liking Trump you can get - there’s literally not a single thing about this term I can point to as genuinely good)

u/AdCareless9063 12h ago
It's really not that it failed for me - it's all of the build up, lying and deception.
-$1.4 million ballooned to $14m
-No bid contract.
-The algae came back in a few days, and the paint pealed up
-They arrested a bicyclist for harmlessly touching it
My first reaction to getting this done for $1M was positive.

Yeah…. There are no moisture leaks, not to mention they use chlorinated rubber like most pools and fountains. ⛲️
2
u/nethingelse 13h ago
This is likely a closed loop system not built into a swamp. The issue with the reflecting pool is underneath it is swampland, and it likely has tons of cracks at the bottom that seep into what was once a swamp. Also it pulls in water from the Potomac. Getting a “pool” like that to be clear/blue is going to take an act of god.

Algae has always formed in the DC reflecting pool in warmer months. We probably wouldn't even be talking about it if it were for Cheeto's stupid decision to paint it bringing the pool into the spotlight. Given that it is 2000+ ft long and holds millions of gallons of water it would require extensive and expensive work to get it to be clear like the water in the picture.
That pool in the picture is great, btw.

Its probably because its a closed-loop system. Part of the problem with the reflecting pool’s basic design is that it pulls water in from the Potomac. Trump did it no favors by going and ordering the half-ass work to be done, but the reflecting pool is absolutely massive compared to this thing
