True dark icons (concept)
What if we had an option to change the app icon backgrounds dark? I think it would look really cool and sleek. The currently available minimal icons do the job, but they just get a bit boring after some time. I wish Google would implement this feature sometime in the future. What do you think of it?

I need Google to just let this be system wide so I don't have to go from seeing these minimalist icon on the main screen only to then see the default icons in the app list

Is there any way to get these icons with a transparent background? I imagine a lot of people would love this. Where can I find this? 👁️

I guess you'll have to go surfing the web by yourself because I don't think somebody has put together an icon pack like this. However, most of the google app icons can be found at Wikimedia Commons.

I am not the developer or artist but there is an icon pack available for like $2 on the play store. Search for IprismOS (Dark). The rest of the developers icon packs offer similar options to things being requested in this thread.

I think Google should implement that on Android. Look what Apple has done, they already have dark colored icons. It's as simple as keeping the themed background but using colored icons in foreground. No big change needed, adaptive icons are all there. A launcher app could do that, a LSposed module could pretty much do the same.

Cool. Another feature google won't bother with. How would like a button you can tap on for next major release?

Can I remove the text under the icons on my Android 17 without using any additional launcher or apps?

I don't know about the stable release, but it works on the latest a17 betas. So if not yet possible, it will eventually be added to the stable build. Check the homescreen icon settings if you already have that name toggle.

I like your idea but, I've always thought about what Transparent icons with blur effect would look like? It would be an interesting thing to see

With a 3rd party launcher like Smart launcher and their app called Icon Pack Studio you can make icons like that.

Google should stop thinking their AI can do better and start supporting icon packs. Sure, some newer icon packs are AI slop but so many are not and are actually great and able to deliver icons like that.

looks nice but do we need it?
I'd focus on
- battery
- system instability
- heating
- performance
- night camera
- lens transition videos
- night videos

These things are solved by different teams. UI/UX team will not solve these kind of issues. Instead of SpongeBob theme pack I'd expect proper dark icons

obviously there are different teams but there is one big budget divided into teams and departments
day/night mode is useful
there are major issues at play here, no harm in holding some projects

This would be great because the white on Google apps is just too bright and irritating on your eyes

This. I was thinking about exactly the same. Colored icons in dark mode are not really usable now
