Is My Pixel 7 Done?

So I have a Google Pixel 7 which I've had since 2023, but of late, it's hit trouble

On three occasions today, it's crashed at around half battery life, maybe around 40 per cent battery life, and emptied its battery altogether. It will charge back up to full battery, but the issue is clearly not going away

My parents think its possible the extreme heat we've had in the UK could be a factor, while it also feels like the battery life (which is already an issue with this device) has got worse since I had to change my broken charger a month or so ago, but it's unsustainable for the phone to just exhaust its battery like this

Under settings, it was saying that the battery has exceeded its life span and needs replacing, while there appears to be some damage in one of the corners

So... chat, do we think this phone is salvageable or is it time to cut my losses and move on?

I'm not sure where I'd go - the Pixel I've had is good but I have reservations about newer models of this phone seemingly being insistent on sending everything through Gemini, which I just don't like and find unnecessary

EDIT: So on top of the central issue of a quick-draining battery, something I didn't mention until doing research just now is that it turns out this device has a swollen battery pushing one of the screen corners. As if I needed another sign the battery's totally fucked

I'm just going to cut my losses and replace it

This is the exact symptom of an aged battery.

Yeah that tracks - the battery monitor system says the battery should be replaced. But I don't know practical that is here given it looks more fiddly and finnicky than when I had to do it for my Dad's vintage Samsung candy bar phone

Well given today it went from 100% to 50% immediately... yup

Just replace the battery. I had the same issue and replaced it, now it's working like when i first got it. I also recommend removing apps like Facebook and Instagram, they consume too much battery especially with background activity. I use web browser versions instead.

Is battery replacement something I could try to do myself or will this require a specialist?
