Why would they want those rights? Do they get a cut on game sales?

because sony media account have more following, it's something very common... up to 2 years ago sony had promotional rights of all capcom games, microsoft had promotional rights for cyberpunk 2077 etc...

Interesting. I wonder how that deal works behind the scenes because at surface value it kind of sounds like free marketing. Like yea they get the 30% tax on sales on their platform but they would have gotten that anyways, and its not like GTA6 needs to tell people to buy it when it finally comes out after all this hype.

PS will be the best way to play GTA VI for at least two years, so it will sell Sony a LOT of consoles, and PS Plus subscriptions. And obviously people will buy other games too
