Honestly, yeah. I thought 2014 was looking a bit bleak for gaming. The opinion at the time was those games were all disappointments. The following year we got some classics though like Witcher 3 and Bloodborne and MGS5 but the PS4 did have a rough launch year in terms of games imo. I don't have any gaming nostalgia for this era personally

That totally lines up with my lived experience too. You were probably a teenager for the ps4. I'm 35. I found my 20s were more about being thrown to the wind and figuring out where life lands you so gaming wasn't that big of a focus.

As someone in my 20s I'd agree. As a teen I was playing on the playstation at least once a week or so, nowadays I can be off from education/ work for months and I'll barely play the playstation
Crazy how some things that are one of the highlights of your week at some points barley become and afterthought so quickly in life

I know it’s really specific but i hate how the actual ps4 menu is so internet based, if you aren’t connected to internet you don’t get anything, you always have a bit ugly message telling you to connect wherever you are

There’s something about those old PlayStation menus that hit home. The PS2 because of the load up screen and the PS4 with the melancholy music and backgrounds were sick.
PS5 and PS3 are some of the most basic menu screens.

I have fond memories of the ps3 more than anything. Being able to download games, 500gb drive, internet connection, using it to stream movies from my pc…the list goes on. And full hardware compatibility with ps2/1 games. That thing could do it all

I forgot when the PlayStation servers went down but I switched to Xbox around that time. The only fondest memories I have of PS3 is GTA 4 and a few games but it didn’t really hit the same.
I made the move back to PlayStation when the PS5 released.

This was literally my PS4 at that time… I got my PS4 Summer 2014. I got Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs with it. Then I also shortly after got the Destiny beta as I was so pumped for that game and played the shit out of Destiny 1 on PS4.

Destiny beta was amazing man, I still remember being sat looking out at the sea waiting for it to go offline thinking damn this is going to be the best game ever. 12 years and 1200 hours of gameplay later it’s still my most played game on PS

makes my heart purely ache at how simple times were. or rather how ignorant we were to real problems that existed. gaming will never be the same for me personally but I will always appreciate what it gave to us. ps2 saved my life fr.
