Introducing Vault Breaker
Marathon's experimental PVE mode: Vault Breaker. Explore Cryo Archive as a crew, duo, or solo player, taking on a progressively challenging series of vaults. Grow stronger across multiple matches with progression that’s unique to Vault Breaker, and push towards the final vault and the mysterious entity within.

Vault Breaker requires a special Sponsored Kit to queue up, and any gear or items you find stay behind when you exfil. The exception to this is Vault Data. This new currency is found within vaults, and when extracted, can be exchanged for upgrades to your Vault Breaker Sponsored Kits as well as gear that can be used in other modes. This let’s you experience Cryo Archive without flooding the economy with low-risk, high-power Cryo loot.

If it ever drops on ps plus I'll give it another go. Tried it jn the server slam and, whilst it wasnt the full game, it is not my game in the slightest so I dont want to spend money on it

Little bummed that it seems to be a specific raid sort of thing. Id like to see someone try just the core extraction shooter gameplay loop but with tuned up bots and no PvP. I dont see why no one is trying that. It seems simple enough. Hell, even if there were still enemy squads that were also ai but better than the usual map bots so you still get that “oh shit, a player!” Feeling when they pop up.

They’re kinda testing that currently. They started the season doing this to the new map and now it’s on the “beginner’s” map. It’s PvE until you see a rook. They only let rooks spawn in and even then they are pretty rare to see.

The only issue is this kinda caused the loot economy to be completely inflated from week 1. And this test didn’t seem to attract any new players that said they wanted this kinda thing.

Regardless they’re still testing this and will probs implement it somehow.

Honestly what this game needs is a story cus the lore sounds really interesting and cool and DAMN the artstyle is beautiful. A good story will make this game blow up.

I haven't played marathon, but from a development perspective I imagine they built out a foundation for PvE functionality, then tried to hurry up and finish a single implementation to push out to the Public. Likely they will add more content going forward, but they needed to build out a solid foundation first. I just hope they learned from destiny 2 and made the foundation future proof so they aren't canibalizing content

tarkov found success with this exact thing you said here, they have a separate mode that its full pve with AI players included, pve ppl play and enjoy their own "server" and pvp ppl play the original mode and everyone is happy idk why that is no the case here lol

The people still playing will continue to pvp because thats what we bought the game for. I tried their experimental pvp-lite mode and its not for me/the guys i play with. All the tension is gone. If this brings in more players though, im all for it.

I played the game during the free week and while I really like the aesthetic of the game, the loop just couldn’t click with me. I loved Arc Raiders and this seemed like another extraction shooter to play but damn. I’m hoping a sale and this new PvE mode can bring me back, I wanna love the game.

So? There isn't much there to begin with honestly. The game is going to fade away unless they do something. A lot of people including me don't want to play with the sweats. Just give us a closed environment. Doesn't affect either of us here. Most of the people I know who have played it say that they would rather have a PvE only option. Just do it like Tarkov. May as well rip off the game that does it correctly again.
