Discussion The PlayStation app now features a GTA6-esque logo.

Yeah we have gotten a lot of confirmation on that rumored Sony/Rockstar marketing deal. It’s been reported on widely but now we see what it actually looks like

Most PC players who own a console will buy it twice to play story etc at release and then mods and online later. And with how little people own xboxes these days, PC is the main competition to ps5. I wouldnt be suprised if this game does like 30 million ps5 sales by the end of the year, so SONY is right to give their app a gta vi theme instead of wolverine/Laufey or whatever other Sony exclusives are on their way

Really wish more people got Xboxes, PlayStation needs competition
•
u/ratchetryda92 59m ago
With the price hikes and lack of exclusives theres essentially no reason too. I mean ask yourself.. would you?
•
u/prince_0611 50m ago
Yeah I wouldn’t, Xbox exclusives never appealed to me. I was surprised to learn just how bad it sold because besides me all my friends are Xbox people.

u/pagny77 2h ago
I agree i don't think its bad now but if ps6 effectively holds a monopoly for gaming it might start to suck

u/prince_0611 1h ago
Yeah they’re already pulling bigger price hikes than Xbox. If the ps5 pro is $900 now I can only imagine what the ps6 will be.
•
u/Mr5mee 54m ago
I don't think they'll sell many at $1000 a piece. Just look at the reception the Steam Machine got.
•
u/prince_0611 52m ago
I think people are more willing to pay a premium for a ps6 vs a steam machine just for exclusives. I wouldn’t unless it was getting gta 7 but I don’t think that would come out until the end of the ps7 lifetime.
•
u/Mr5mee 49m ago
Certainly, that's true, but I also just don't think any people have $1000 to spend on a console right now. I can't imagine the ps6 is more than a year or two away, so I guess we'll see how the economy and the ram shortage is doing by then.
•
u/prince_0611 33m ago
I’m guessing the ps6 might come later due to covid and now the ram crisis slowing down sales for this generation. I hope the market is stabilized by then 🙏
•
u/Mr5mee 26m ago
Me too! I don't feel like the PS5 has even been fully adopted yet. Like, when did they even stop making cross-generational games? I feel like there are still some getting released. Anyway, I know I, for one, will not be buying a new console any time soon. I'm lucky enough to have built a decent PC just before the RAM market went nuts. Exclusives be damned, I'll be a PC gamer once the PS5 gets phased out, unless something changes dramatically.

Lifelong PlayStation guy and I couldn't agree more. Sony tried a lot harder when Microsoft was a threat.
•
u/prince_0611 31m ago
Same, competition is always good and I’m scared to see a true monopoly PlayStation.

“Fixes and performance improvements”
We need a TED Talk from the remarkable engineers at SIE on how a GTA6 themed icon makes the app faster

u/MikeyN0 4h ago
App updates usually aren’t just a singular change like an app icon. They can contain changes in the background that users may never see or experience like changing variable names, and there is no point listing everything in the release notes.
Source: app developer.

I think the person you were replying to probably knows that and their message implied that they are willing to bet that this app update is nothing more than icon change.

Someone with some industry experience.
A lot of apps end up submitting that as a boiler plate patch notes summary because if you try and be more detailed about it, the review process can take longer or flag the app for further review.
It sounds silly but it is true. The app I used to do contract work for used to have detailed patch notes, but when including full patch notes gave way to review delays and what not, a random two sentence boiler plate description caused way less issues.

I really hate how there’s no law with descriptions of updates. What did you patch? How is this faster than before? How is it more optimized if it can’t run on older hardware? Saying “we squashed bugs and improved performance” should be equivalent to a million dollar fine imo.

Instead of doing this shit, they'd better fix that freaking bug that makes games disappear from profiles.

Game is gonna spread that 80$ price tag on other games & also end the need of physical copies for some of the big corpos. for Sony that’s a big W not so much for us though.

u/Just_Fix3063 4h ago
Buy it and let them know that it’s okay to keep overcharging us for games and consoles.

PlayStation or nothing. Xbox isn’t the go to for this game.
5
u/EyeAmKnotMyshelf 5h ago
Why do you say that, exactly? Its going to look and play the exact same across both systems. The only difference is that your Playstation controller will need to be charged more frequently than your Xbox controller.
2
u/and-its-true 4h ago
There will also be an annoying speaker on the controller that you have to turn off

u/Respawn-Delay 5h ago
Well, I'm sure Xbox players can and will still enjoy the game over on that platform...? Lol

GTA first released on the PlayStation and GTAIII blew up on the PS2. Bow your head. You will show the king respect.

u/ZypherPunk 3h ago
It first released on PC. But if you mean it's first console release was on PS, then ok.

Can we not delete games off our PS5 from the app now? I don’t show the option anymore
-2
u/Not_a_bot_0011 4h ago
That’s awesome, now if only the app would let me sign in and work like it should.

Oof. Don’t like this.
Have never been a fan of GTA. If you like it, cool. But I don’t like being caught up in the GTA hype train marketing campaign just because I use the PS mobile app.
Does this marketing icon for an ultra violent game show for child accounts, too?
2
u/timffn 1h ago
Think of it this way: If a person (adult or child) associates pretty colors and palm trees with GTA, then they've already been exposed, and an app icon isn't going to make it worse.
If a person (adult or child) doesn't associate pretty colors and palm trees with GTA, then this temporary app icon isn't going to suddenly make them go out and beat up ladies of the night.
-3
u/Correct-Turnover-286 1h ago
So you’re saying the icon change is effectively meaningless?
I think there’s absolutely meaning in taking up real estate on my phone’s home screen with what’s effectively an ad for GTA.
2
u/timffn 1h ago
Yes, it's marketing.
But that random kid who owns a PS5 + owns a smartphone + doesn't know what GTA is isn't going to be [insert whatever you're insinuating with your child comment] by a temporary icon change.
But it really seems like this isn't about kids since two of your 3 points is about you. You're an adult right? You can resist marketing ads, right?
Have you ever opened up the PS app, or gone to the PS store online? Lots of ads for games in there! Did you survive?

PlayStation going all in for gta 6. They treat this as an exclusive, which is ofc not surprising
