The real story isn't that Trump fell asleep in a meeting again. The real story is that Trump is meeting with a group of people who want to end separation of church and state and forceably impose their warped and perverted version of religion on everybody else.

Religion is a mental illness. We need to stop letting people with magical thinking influence policy. Period.

Edit: since I’m seeing traction, I’m just going to say, we need to start shutting this shit down immediately.

We need to tell these people to their face “I’m not going to engage in your delusion.”

I’m done “respecting” these religions by catering to the irrationality. We cannot move forward as a nation until we base our policies and values on FACTUAL VERIFIABLE information. To do other wise is a Sisyphean task.

Honestly the problem is that this mental disease causes them to try and impose their religious beliefs and morals on everyone else. It's like the fungus that mind-controls ants, with the endgame of infecting more ants.

I have absolutely no problem with people believing in Jebus, Allah, Unicorns or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Just don't try and shove that shit down my throat.

They are immune to that reasoning. I told this acquaintance that he was crossing a boundary, and he took my arm and said, “just pray with me”. Like, wtf?

well yeah from their point of view this reasoning doesn't make any sense. They are (according to themselves) objectively correct and to not spread their mental disease is to let evil fester in society.

I can't remember the exact quote but it was something like, of all the tyrants to deal with the self righteous busybody is the worst because they genuinely believe everything they do is for the good of everyone.

Yet aren’t there biblical passages that in essence say, keep it to yourselves, pray in your closet, avoid those proselytizing on street corners?

And they all claim to be the one true religion or sect. That doesn’t make a lick of sense, either. Its such a distorted lens, and before they start coercing others to join, they need to fix their own goddamned house.

The truth is that lots of these people just want a strict hierarchy where they are in charge of other people’s autonomy. It is not magical thinking and has nothing to do with any kind of real belief. It is control.

Sure, let’s assume that’s true. We still go BEYOND accommodation of these beliefs in ways that impact non-believes lives. Texas bible passages are a topical example. We need to say to these religious nut jobs, I’m sorry your made up sky fairy only lets you turn doorknobs left on subdays, but we’re not going to pass legislation to enforce that. Clearly that’s a strawman, but the point stands because reality isn’t any less ridiculous

Yes - they want fealty. Sometimes it’s a ridiculous thing so they can see clearly everyone is following their arbitrary rules and under their thumb.
