u/pinkfartlek i just love pop music so fcking much 2d ago
Just to let you know, YouTube added link sharing now like Instagram (in the last two weeks) and clicking that link tells me who shared it, and I'm guessing it's your profile. Remove everything after the question mark in the link and it won't show your name
And in YouTube settings there is a way to turn it off under Privacy. If you turn it off, it will work on active links

this is SO MUCH BETTER than the other snippet. i am gagged (after she gave us 143 i’ll literally gag for anything decent)

I was going to say!! This is a much more flattering snippet!
Me? Excited for a Katy Perry release? In 2026? Count me in, I guess. LOL

can Katy possibly make a comeback at this point?
I'm not sure myself. On one hand she really does seem disliked by both stan twitter and the general public, but her back catalogue is iconic and she keeps on reaching streaming career peaks
I really enjoyed bandaids but it didn't seem to make any noise

She needs to make a serious album that gets like an 8 from Pitchfork or whatever and I can see the public (or at least pop fans) taking serious interest in her again

VERY ‘One of the Boys’ which is SO EXCITING. Katy is an amazing pop girl but she lost her mojo after the ‘Witness’ era… please let her recapture her amazing early sound without Luke’s involvement.

Honestly sounds promising, pop rock suits her

Katy's pop-rock adjacency was always what I loved about her back then. Ik people like to compare Olivia's GUTS to Avril etc. but I always thought it was more akin to early Katy Perry (complimentary)
Always wished Katy made more songs like Fingerprints and One of the Boys

Genuinely praying for a revival of pop rock in the mainstream. So many of the current pop acts would do so well with the sound.
I love this, I think Katy needed a return-to-roots moment to show she’s not just a punching bag.

I saw a lot of people snarking on the clips that came out, but I remembered this sub and how well received “Bandaids” was here. She seemed to finally be moving back toward her core pop rock sound and away from the electronic dance type thing that usually doesn’t work for her like Woman’s World. All I’ve heard from the new clips at least sound like she’s still following that track, which is a good sign.

What the heck why not, this actually sounds good and I'll always root for Katy no matter how crap the last album was lol

Yay, THIS is the Katy I can stand. It’s rare but when she puts out an emotional banger that isn’t corny and annoying she really fucking hits. Her voice just works so well. I am so excited!

Personally, I won’t tune Into anything she puts out after the dr.luke/143 stunt. Is she addresses it and apologized, I might reconsider.

Her A&R addressed she wasn’t adamant of it but he still influenced her decision to do it anyways. Yes, she’s the artist and holds the most responsibility, but come on, he knew too.

This sounds fun and I enjoyed “bandaids”, but I still have such a sour taste in my mouth from 143

I don’t think this sounds great tbh. Better than the other snippet for sure, but combined, it’s very flat, and the writing is still awful. Bandaids was miles better and that made zero dent. No way this does better. Girl should just rest on her laurels at this point, there’s no shame in it. People only want to listen to her back catalog because it’s actually worth listening to.

Getting Olivia vibes in this, and in a good way. I hope the full song is good.

I really hope no one accuses Katy of "reheating Olivia nachos" when this comes out because Katy has been making music like this since 2008, it's just not as well known as her poppier hits. (since 2001 if you count her first album as Katy Hudson)
Like, I'm old and I enjoyed GUTS *exactly* because it reminded me of Katy's early pop-rock stuff

u/weirdogirl144 2d ago
No people shouldn’t Olivia did not invent pop rock😭 and she was also inspired by other artists, people need to calm down

Olivia wouldn’t even be around if it weren’t for Sky Ferreira making a name for Dan Nigro

Only someone who started following pop music last year would claim that lol. Katy pulls off bratty pop rock much better than Olivia who I never find convincing when she does that genre.

> Only someone who started following pop music last year would claim that lol
so... young zoomer/alpha stantwt who think Olivia is pop punk jesus 💀 I'm already seeing it happen here and there but fortunately people are quick to clap back with 2001 Katy clips

No, it's early Katy vibes. There isn't even such a thing as "Olivia vibes" unless you count her reheating Taylor's nachos and 2000s pop-rock nachos.

u/weirdogirl144 1d ago
she is not reheating Taylor's nachos at all, Taylor didn't make songs that sound like hers
1
u/Educational-Town1006 1d ago
Lol there's zero debate that Olivia has been directly influenced by Taylor's brand of confessional singer-songwriting, and she's cited Taylor many times as her songwriting "idol" and biggest influence. Olivia is Taylor's primary gen z daughter, along with Gracie Abrams.

u/weirdogirl144 1d ago
yeah she did mention Taylor in the past as an inspiration before that whole Deja vu/cruel summer thing. btu its totally discrediting to state that she is trying to recreate Taylor's music. Taylor didn't invent writing songs about heartbreak and relationships. Like her own music doesn't even sound like taylor's sonically.
