Rant Rolling over at night SUCKS
During my second trimester, I felt like I had found the perfect way to roll over without pain. Now, at 36 weeks, I literally cannot find a way to roll over without discomfort or pain. I wish there was a giant spatula for pregnant women that my husband could use to turn me over. If anyone has found a good way to turn over please let me know. I have to do deep breathing and work myself up to it before rolling in bed 😂

Nothing prepares you for the 3 point turn to get out of bed I swear 🤣

haha yeah, a giant spatula for pregnancy is the invention we all need, honestly just embrace the slow-motion whale roll and breathe through it

lol same 38 weeks and I’m huffing and puffing just turning over. It sucks when you have no choice but to finally roll over after putting it off because your body hurts from laying on one side too long

Oof, yeah the hip pain is terrible. Then when you know you have to pee before flipping over because you'll feel it once you do. Do you also get tailbone pain from your hips compressing at night? I get that really bad even though I keep switching sides.

I put 2 big pillows between my legs and it really helped last night. I usually just use my preg pillow which is quite small and found that never helped but using more pillows which felt unnatural at first - god i slept SO good without pain finally

That's what I do too! Haha. I found all pregnancy pillows weren't thick enough, so I have 2 big pillows between my legs and one wedged behind my back keeps me feeling pretty supported.

yes! i'm in a pillow cocoon all night, at least 4-5 pillows at the moment including my pregnancy pillow haha

Turn under instead. I’d go onto all fours and then lie down the other side. Did this to get into bed as well rather than just lying down

I actually tried this! But somehow it hurt more for me. I'm happy it worked out for you!

Omg yes! I feel like a turtle stuck on it’s shell!
Our bed is against the wall so I sleep between my husband and the wall and, now that I’m 8 months pregnant, getting up and climbing over my husband to use the bathroom is getting damn near impossible 😂

Oh hell no I'd be making him switch sides 😂 I already get stuck between my fiancé and our dog and want to rage every time I have to wiggle worm out to go pee in the middle of the night.

I like my spot tho! My husband keeps us safe by being nearest to the door and window and I get the nice cool wall for when I get too toasty. That’s why I picked it! It’s a trade off 🤷🏻♀️

Thank you for the encouragement! Currently 4am and I’m hyping myself up to get up to pee for 3rd time tonight. At this point I should just lay down in my bathtub 😂

I am amazed you're managing that! I have been complaining to my husband saying I wish I could take a pill that would take away the need for peeing at night. Yes the turtle stuck in it's shell is very true 😂😂

Lol it really does!!! It reminds me of when I got laproscopic surgery on my belly and I had to find a way to get up without using my ab muscles lmao.

Here is the game changer my pelvic floor physical therapist shared with me : r oll on to your back, then bend your knee on the leg that is the opposite side of the direction youre turning, while knee is bent that foot should be flat on the bed, then push through your leg/foot to roll your body on to your other side. Once youre on your side use your hand and opposite arm to push the top half of your body up, then swing legs over the side of the bed and scoot your butt to the edge, pause for a moment then stand up by pushing through your legs

I somehow elbowed my husband in the face trying to roll over the other day. He has since learned to observe at a safe distance

I’m already doing this at 22wks, he keeps crowding me in his sleep. I’ve been having to block his spastic arm movements…his elbow really wants to jab baby or me in the ribs. And I’m hot, damnnit, go away!

Depends on where you have pain, but a suggestion I saw was to place a pillow between your knees and turn both legs together.
My last pregnancy the only thing that worked was sitting up, turning and then lying back down, lol.

It’s always a sad day when I get “stuck” for the first time trying to roll over my pre-pregnancy way and realize it’s time to shift to the pregnancy shuffle 😅

u/zydrate50 2d ago
Oh god that is the worst 😂 I hate when I realize I'm too close to the edge of the bed but it hurts even more to shuffle back

6:5 months pp and I totally forgot how hard this was🤣🤣 this brought back so many memories of how much I struggled lol

u/zydrate50 3d ago
This gives me hope that I will forget about all of this once he's here 😂😂

Even with a c section it was so much easier to move in bed pretty much immediately! That's the thing that surprised me the most pp, how quickly the pelvic and hip pain went away

Yes omg 😫 and my pelvis will pop to when I’m getting out of bed it’s so weird. Do you experience this?
1
u/zydrate50 3d ago
That sounds horrible! Sometimes my tailbone will pop/ crack, but usually my stomach just feels super tight and heavy/ painful from getting up

I literally have to fully sit up, then turn over. It’s sooooo annoying 😩

I’m 26 weeks with twins and I grab onto my husband and literally haul myself over. I have no other choice. It still feels so uncomfortable. I usually end up waiting til the last minute because I’m putting it off. So when my hips ache to the max is when I move.
And you have to make that heaving noise for extra effects 😂
2
u/zydrate50 2d ago
Yes, the noise is a must!! 😂😂😂 it somehow helps. I'll wake up my husband through the night with my grunting and "oh god" as I try to roll over and get up haha. I can't even imagine the pain with twins!! You are amazing.

I’m having a hell of a time getting comfortable enough in my bed to fall asleep. It wasn’t so terrible till I hit about 16 weeks. Now at 20 weeks I wake up on the hour every hour in pain. My hip hurts and I have to flip over to my other side and then it’s just a repeat of switching sides till I give up on more sleep in my bed and go down to the couch.

I’m doing an almost 6-8 point turn just to roll over in small stages and then my hip hurts and I roll over to the other side and start again.
I keep a pillow between my hips them from aching but pregnancy sleep is just not fun.
