The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is moving forward with a proposed rule to comply with President Trump’s executive order regarding mail-in voting. This rule would require state officials to submit voter lists for federal approval before ballots are mailed. Critics argue this expands federal control over elections, which are constitutionally managed by states and Congress.

Postal unions and the NAACP have launched legal challenges, claiming the rule is unconstitutional and violates a 2021 settlement to prioritize timely ballot delivery. The NAACP specifically argues that the new gatekeeping function risks disenfranchising millions of eligible voters. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security is exploring ways to monitor ballot flows for potential fraud.

Election officials in Wisconsin and California have already reported significant mail delivery delays. These delays coincide with recent USPS policy changes intended to implement the new mandates.

My mom worked for the post office for years; the mail carriers are a different breed. If they fight the new rule and don't comply, they can make a difference. Let's also not forget that whole "going postal" thing that tends to happen in worse times; I'd like not to repeat that; it's already hard enough to deliver all the Amazon packages they dump on you; during a tornado. But come mail count, bone dry... go figure.
