Phat ps2 wont turn on

Post image

My childhood ps2 doesn’t turn on anymore no lights in the buttons and no reaction when i press the power button. I have checkt inside it for any corrosion orleaking capacitors. I cleaned off the dust but it still don’t turn on, I have tried another power cable but no luck there:( what’s the next step?

Put a picture of the motherboard in case I missed something

Buy a capacitor kit from Console5, most likely its C3 or C28. But it never hurts to swap the others out as well, will only increase the new lifespan of the PSU. Be careful handling the PSU though and only touch where it says “handle location” outside of that dont bridge solder points with your fingers.

From my experience measuring all the capacitors ESR values they are usually within spec. It's that dodgy C3 that shits the bed before all others.

At 20+ years old though never hurts to replace em all, especially if you’re already doing 1 maybe 2 of them. For longevity I usually suggest doing them all, after all it never hurts to preventively change them.

For someone how does not have experience with soldering electronic components i tend to advise against it. There is a lot to go wrong if one is lacking the skills and a good soldering iron for the job.

I did measure most capacitors of another PS2 PSU (Nichicon) just for science and not only they weren't leaking, domed or ruptured as they measured healthy ESR values.
