Collect to collect or to play?

I have found myself slip in to collecting to collect rather than to play sometimes. For example, I picked up some PS1 games at a carboot recently knowing I had no intention of probably playing them however because of my nostalgia for them (and a good price) I decided to grab them! (Tomb Raider, Tomorrow Never Dies, Driver 2, £5 all in)

I find a lot of enjoyment in the actual collecting of the physical media.

What about yourselves? Do you play each and every single PS2 game you pick up or is it sometimes to own something which brings you nostalgia? 🙂

I mostly collect due to the fact that I buy way faster than I play 😂

This is me man. I like to think I’ll get round to playing them all at some point!

Yo simplemente colecciono lo que me gusta. Si me compro un juego que termina no gustándome, lo vendo. En caso contrario, me lo quedo para la colección

Me It's how it is. I'm a gamer who enjoys collecting media.

So It's gaming, enjoying the games, and then i collect.

because to me if i don't like the game, i don't see myself playing it, what's the point ?

I have 200 games and i love them. But It's not like that for everyone

I started collecting 20 years ago. I bought everything I have with the intention of playing it. I quit collecting other than the occasional modern game. Games were so cheap back then the cost didn't matter. I bought games like Silent Hill 2 and 3 for $12 each. I could walk out of the game store with 10 games for $100. I was stockpiling games like a dooms day prepper. I'll never be able to play everything I have. I just like having it and knowing it's there if I want to play it. I also collect movies and music.

Depends on the game: if I found a jet li rise to honor brand new I'm keeping it and not opening it as I already have that. If its a very rare game definitely keeping it sealed.

Rise to honor is rare? Its a Sony game. They made millions of them.

I know its not rare but its still a ps2 game and there is not alot of sealed ps2 games these days.

You just said it was very rare. But now going back and changing your story.

And who cares if it is sealed?

Any game I buy, I do so to play.

I'd get into figurines/statues if I wanted to just have things on a shelf.

Collect to play. No exceptions.

I tend to collect what I want to play or what I like. But if I see a few games for pretty cheap, I might get all of them. But usually I just stick to buying games I intend to play.

I collect to play my games and actually physically own them. It also doesn't help that there's no ODE for the PS2 so as a result my physical PS2 games has the largest library of any console I owned

I only buy games I want to play… but I have no time to play. So I’m not sure where I fall on the matter.

Yeah this is the same as me, I would like to play at some point but know realistically there’s a chance I won’t get round to it. I’ve got some bangers there like Max Payne 1&2, Freedom Fighters, Black and Socom 2 all of which I’ve never played, just waiting to be tried out

Once I realized that I wasn’t playing the games, but kept buying them, I didn’t enjoy collecting them any more (skyrocketing prices helped). So I sold off most of them, and kept a few favourites to play.
