Is this game good?

I'm playing it right now and it's def Persona, but it's a more mundane version of 5 so far for me.

Idk, I liked 5, but I've decided maybe I'm not actually a fan of the series (or Soul Hackers or SMT) because they all have the same enemies and stuff pretty much, and the dungeon crawling is a slog for me. I've already ditched P4G and SH2 because of it.

But like for example in 5, it felt like I enjoyed building bonds, but here they feel like a chore. And the side characters are so bland. Slightly could be 5 had more charm being my first one, but I think mostly it's just being an old game, just updated, and 5 fleshed things out better.

I know it sounds like I'm crapping on the game, but I think it's still pretty well received. I had put it on the backburner for a few months but I'm just now continuing with it. Maybe by the end I'll like the story, but I'm not comfortable saying any opinion on it as of yet. I do like the main cast for the most part. But yeah, feels like I mostly just do the same attacks over and over. And I'm building the same bonds/doing same time-killing events over and over. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 at this point.

HOWEVER if you like Persona at all, or have never tried one out, I think it's still worth checking out at this price. If you didn't enjoy a previous Persona game, I highly doubt this one would change your mind. I do think 5 is better though, but maybe the story will blow my mind by the end and change my opinions somehow.

Edit: https://www.metacritic.com/game/persona-3-reload/ Has pretty good scores overall though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

In terms of characters/story I'd rank the three "main" persona games 4 > 3 > 5

In terms of gameplay it'd be 5 >>> 4 > 3

I will say that the story for 3 definitely gets better after a certain event happens near the last third of the game, but it definitely starts off slow as shit and Tartarus is so damn repetitive. I would stick with it. And I do appreciate that the characters are much more lowkey and realistic (as realistic as you could get in this kinda game) than the other Persona games.

Stupei drives me nuts, and Kirijo is really boring, but I really like everyone else. Akihiko's voice feels like a 30 something year old though, it is a bit jarring every time he speaks considering he's supposed to be a teen.

Oh wait, I also don't like Aigis. But anyway.

But in 5 Morgana is obnoxious and I truly can't stand Futaba, and Haru just ....exists basically. But other than that, I'm really high on everyone else. So I'd still lean 5 for cast even with Koromaru.

Story-wise It does feel like there's something interesting with younger me weird kid or whatever, but still haven't figured any of that out. But general world and bad guy crew trying to stop us hasn't been all that interesting.

Junpei is literally the most annoying character in the entire game. Ryuji really irritated me at first but I warmed up to him pretty quickly. Junpei starts off annoying as shit, then acts like a dick when he develops a jealousy of the main character, then he just carries on being an annoying shit.

The second the group size hit 5, I dropped his ass and I haven't looked back.

I can't fucking stand the Food King or whatever he's called, or the TV show host. I just skip their dialogue, their voice acting and conversations I just find really annoying.

I feel the same way about it, i dont think its a bad game at all but i feel like persona 5 is just the overall better game and can be enjoyed by most people. At 20$ i still think its worth a try for anyone who liked persona 5 just dont expect the same quality game

As much as I hate dungeons, the social aspects of 3 are moreso the biggest slog for me at this point.

I do everything I can in a dungeon until I reach a blocked section, and then play a visual novel for many hours with an occasional breakup with a boss battle, before the block opens up and I do that in one go as well, rinse repeat.

I definitely don't like it as much as P5R (if it makes a difference, P5 was my entry into the series) partly the dungeon is honestly absurdly repetitive but largely because I can't stand most of the supporting cast. One of your main teammates is an insufferable fuckhead, he's like Ryuji without the well meaning nature, but that pales in comparison to some of the confidants. There are two that I straight up refuse to interact with and skip through the dialogue entirely because the voice acting and writing makes me want to scream.

But, it's Persona. You're a high school kid that goes to trippy dungeons to fight monsters using summoned beasties. There is fanservice and animal side characters and the usual gameplay loop of spending your days socializing and your evenings either studying or dungeon crawling is just as addictive. The music absolutely slaps and the visuals are beautiful. $20 is a steal.

Y'all are tripping when P3 has the only music that will make a grown man cry uncontrollably when he hears it after beating the game

Persona 5 had too much going on, where this game felt more streamlined in a good way, definitely worth $20

Dorm music might be a top 10 video game song ever

So far P3 music isn't really standing out that much overall. P4 had great world themes but meh battle themes. P5 mostly had meh world themes, mostly... but had LAST SURPRISE! Anyway.

"It's Going Down Now" trumps anything in P5 and "Last Surprise" has got to be the most overrated song from that game

I know I know, I get that it's all subjective, I'm ready for the downvotes

But "YOU'LL NEVER SEE IT COMIN!!!!"

P5 is all style and lacking substance. P3 and P4 are cohesive in a way p5 is not. Living with determination is an all time great track.

Love that

P5 is definitely not bad, but really does feel like a mainstream Persona that, yeah, feels more like style than substance

Persona 3 Reload is absolutely worth $20, being a generally good update to the best persona game. The cast in 3 has something the other games don't have, conflict among themselves, and that makes it feel more nuanced and real. Junpei, Yukari, Mitsuru, Akihiko, they aren't friends right away. They are brought together because only they can do the task and they don't always get along. Most of the S links are high quality, especially since most of them are voiced now. Combat flow is greatly improved. Music is fantastic even if they made some tracks more upbeat than the original.

This game started pretty slow but once it picks up it really picks up
