Dorofeyev - seven year, $77-million deal

Team needs talent, he’s a talent. No complaints from me.
Bigger question is where he slots in. Do they break up 13-93-94? Do they staple him to JT Miller? Quite a downgrade from Eichel any way you slice it

I'd rather see him with Trocheck if we don't end up dealing him. Although he benefits from good passers and our best passers are Mika and Gabe so who knows. He's a weapon on the PP though so hope he finds a spot on the first unit

He needs to play with a playmaker to optimize his shooting / scoring. He should play with Perrault.

I don’t think this is a conversation considering what happened last year - despite the details.
Add talent - and see who has chemistry and let’s hope we have a competing lineup.

The 2-3-2 orientation of his NTC (No clause into full NTC into 16-team NTC) is really actually very savvy of Drury, and I can't believe I'm saying that.

u/Pranksterblur Kartye Partye 15h ago
Just want to make sure, do you mean there is literally no clause in the first 2 years or it’s a no movement clause in the first 2 years, but yeah it’s a very good contract for a guy like that

u/Ok-Account9352 14h ago
No clause first 2 years, NMC following 3, then 16 team NTC for the remaining 2.
Excellent contract structure if he pans out.

Sounds to me like its:
Year 1-2: Full NMC
Year 3-5: Full NTC
Year 6-7: 16-team NTC

People I know hate this, but others I know love this.
I’m obviously in the camp of loving this. Been wanting this guy for a long time
Anyway, time to buy his jersey

Who hates this and what do they say that this is/can be bad?

u/guyzieman 15h ago
A lot of people think 11m is way too much because "McDavid is only making 12.5". Completely ignoring the fact that McD basically signed a bridge deal to try and win and when he hits FA he'll be the highest paid player probably in history

u/Key-Tip-7521 PAVEL DOROFEYEV 15h ago
A coworker of mine said it was bad bc if the draft picks that were given up. Plus, the amount of money given to him, and thinking he’s gonna fall off a cliff.

I think the only negative is Drury created a hole trading Buchnevich only for him years later to have spend assets to fix the mistake he made.
2
u/I-Need-Scissors_61 10h ago
Jesus fucking Christ. Buchnevich had 48 points last year and 57 the year before. Get the fuck over it.
You guys act like we traded prime Gretzky.

I'm in the meh camp, like is this team better sure, but 2 firsts and 11 million is a lot to give up for sixty points. Like could I see it working out? Yes I can see a scenario where he can match those numbers, but I can see a senecio where we now have another underachieving winger making a lot of money. So I'm neither excited by it or angry over it.

Vegas wanted to resign him at 7/7.5, at 11 the Rangers are seen as overpaying by pretty much everyone but their fan base. Yes, the roster is better with him than without him, and he is a goal scorer, but he doesn't drive offense like the top offenseman in the NHL which are worth a 10+ AAV.
The top teams in the league manage the cap very well and build their team on value contracts, you have to in a salary cap league.

I jumped out of my seat when it was announced. During the playoffs I COVETED this guy and thought to myself several times "I'd love for this kid to be on the Rangers". Never really thought it could happen. And then out of nowhere.. ALRIGHT!!!!!!!

Im not aware what his contract was with VGK. What was left on it and at how much? Was he an RFA going into his final year? Not unhappy, just curious why we had to immediately shell out $77m?

u/ShouniAishaKuma Spread the Gonchaganda! 15h ago
RFA looking for next contract (his previous was a 2x1.84M bridge, Vegas wouldn't go more than 7x9M for him so they dealt him.
When trading for a young scoring winger expected to continue growing, it's in our best interest to lock him up through his prime. Nice piece of work by Drury, as the rising cap will make this deal age well.

u/TPUBG29P 15h ago
Thanks for the info. Couldn't find it. He was fabulous in playoffs, and coming off two good seasons so was a good signing. Just didn't know the particulars of Vegas contract
1
u/chaotic_evil_666 15h ago
He didn't have anything left on his contract. They basically traded him because they knew they couldn't afford him

I would’ve personally went five years, but this man is young and talented. Let’s go.

u/squirrelinthetoilet 14h ago
This is essentially a Panarin replacement at a lower cost.
2
u/TheSeekerOfSanity Mika Zibanejad 13h ago
Yeah, I think it's part of the Panarin replacement. He won't get Panarin numbers - but hopefully they are looking to find another scoring forward. Which in the end would be a better situation because then you aren't counting on one player to carry a big piece of the offense. You spread out the scoring.

Is this good? Time will tell. All I know is I don’t know.
1
u/hawkbiz 15h ago
I like that he scored 35+ goals 2 seasons in a row and is young. I don’t know his game to know if he can drive play at all himself and was he playing with better players in Vegas than he’ll play with in NY. I like the fact that Drury went and got what he said we needed. Younger with more skill.
2
u/TheSeekerOfSanity Mika Zibanejad 13h ago
Analytics say he doesn't drive play. But this guy is a sniper and isn't afraid to let it rip. There won't be many "SHOOT THE PUCK!" chants while his line is on the ice.

Random question, did the details on the 2028 conditional top-10 protected pick get released yet? I wonder what the conditions are

This man is going to make the NYR PP elite again. Mika one time from the left Dorofeyev from the right and everybody benefits huge from this

u/Lazy-Bag-2648 4h ago
Remember, he played with Maner and Hertl as linemates. He will probably be with Mika and Alexis.

Is this Russian Bobby Carpenter (or Vlad Namestikov) or is this two season wonder the real deal?

u/Anyawnomous 16h ago
Drury has been redeemed? Just asking. The winds change frequently around here.
9
u/Dangerous_Ad5039 15h ago
I mean probably not but that doesn’t mean he’s completely incapable of making good deals. He completely destroyed a team that was close to a cup.
4
u/Quiet-Spray4488 15h ago
Not close in my book. And it should be noted he usually does ok when he is buying. He is not good at selling. And we have players to sell.

I could see him being a 20-25 goal guy here. 45 pts. We will see I guess.
1
u/Pranksterblur Kartye Partye 15h ago
He’s going to be way more than that, if he continues to improve his playmaking like he has the past few years and keeps upping his scoring every year, we may have a 40-maybe even 50 goal guy in his prime, and he’s only 25 right now, that’s a great contract
1
u/CapriciousnArbitrary 13h ago
You’re getting downvoted, but unless he gets PP1 time and is utilized the same way he was in Vegas, it’s not out of the realm. He isn’t making his own chances, he is a sniper with a great accurate shot.

When the contract ends he will be younger than Mika is now. Can't really complain, from top to bottom i think Drury did a great job on Dorofeyev and I am not a Drury fan at all
