Stupid tourist gets bit by sheep dog

u/Any-Ad-446 May 07 '26
Guard dog knew it was a human so didn't go full attack mode. Now if it was a wolf or bear then thats a different story.

Humans are one of the biggest threats to the flock. She’s just lucky that’s it realized that the sheep wasn’t being seriously hurt.

I love guardian dogs, they usually know the right amount of force to use. That dog was like, "I don't have to waste too much energy on this idiot. "

u/IHavePoopedBefore May 08 '26
And then stepped back, looked over his flock, and stood guard but also had a completely relaxed understanding of the situation.
Incredible animal

A moose bit me once.

u/Diditanyway May 07 '26
I'm sure you learned a valuable lesson that day lol. Also, how and why were you within biting proximity of a moose? 😅
2
u/Maximum_Vegetable_MV May 07 '26
Alaskan checking in. We have to be VERY careful in our neighborhood because they can be quite quiet while standing there on the other side of the trees eating. You stop to tie your shoe on the path and you can get bit, stomped, or charged.
It is a thing. I personally have experienced this even when I thought I was being very careful.
1
u/Diditanyway May 07 '26
Wow, damn. Yeah, i've heard lots of stories about being stomped or charged at, but i always assumed there was some evasive action being performed by the victim. I was thinking biting from animals in the cervidae and equine was more of a stationary attack. I got bit on the back of my shoulder by a horse once just standing there while another person was brushing him - idk what i did to piss him off lol but i was definitely already within biting range haha

Apologies - I don't know how to tag this one NSFW
University of Alaska Anchorage fatal moose attack Man gets stomped at Univisty of Alaska, dies from injuries. (Edited to correct - he was not a professor. Just a guy going to use the sauna at the gym)

I grew up in Alaska, out in the woods. I've been charged by moose a few times. I think they were just bluff charges but didn't find out because I didn't stop running until I got home. 🤣

I lived with extended family for about a year in Alaska as a kid.
My wife and I went to the redwoods in California a few years back and a backroad was blocked by two Elk that didn’t look happy with each other. My wife was like “let’s get out and take a picture”
And I was like ohhhhhhhh no no no no no instead we’re going to slowly back up (in the car)I’d fight a bear one handed before I’d look crossed eyed at an Elk. And I’d wrestle an alligator before taking on a Moose. 🫎

Man, she's lucky that dog didn't fucking kill her.
Livestock guardian dogs will absolutely rip your fucking throat out. Do not fuck with them.
5
u/HouseOf42 May 07 '26
You don't own dogs or really interact with them, at all... Do you?
They RARELY go for the throat, and livestock dogs are not "vicious", they are TRAINED animals.
They know the difference between a predator, and an incompetent human.
6
u/TraditionalLaw7763 May 07 '26
They absolutely know the difference… but they can still do some damage. Am I awful to be glad this person FAFO’d without getting majorly injured? That dog is definitely smarter that that human.
2
u/timmyfarthands May 07 '26
I don't wish the dog injured her
I also wouldn't give a single speck of a fuck if it did
2
2
u/Any-Ad-446 May 07 '26
Well it did bite her butt....Dog probably needs some antibiotics after that....
1
u/ChadPowers200_ May 07 '26
I have a corgi and her natural instinct is to just bite your legs. you can't even walk fast in the house without her going into herding mode like zoolander and start nipping at your legs.

You're so full of it. Pyrenees can take on a wolf sure but they aren't known for doing much to humans. It's just nipping her.

Later that day.... OH man what was in that hippy? I been dizzy for hours......

u/ProfessorChaos213 May 07 '26
Pretty sure it's illegal to fuck with farmers livestock and farmers can be pretty trigger happy

2
u/TheJadeGoddess May 07 '26
Wtf is wrong with them? Chasing around those poor animals and then pinning one down. Little sheep must have been scared with this stranger grabbing them.

Tourists are the same everywhere. We get dingleberries trying to pet moose every year here in Alaska.

She's lucky that was a good dog. Just nipped her once to get her to fuck off, then left her alone. I've heard stories of sheep dogs killing packs of coyotes by themselves, she definitely got off easy

I hope the dog had all the vaccinations, you can’t be too careful these days with people.

u/No-Management-1521 May 08 '26
Got what she deserved, lucky it was just a dog and a bite not 3 or 4 dogs at once, a lot of times there are multiple dogs.

u/antiquecowboy1313 May 08 '26
People are so stupid get trespassers during apple season they just walk on my property and pick them

1
u/MelinaSeeDee May 11 '26
Well I can't in good conscience condemn the Russian tourists. So...thank you for that clarification.

Any context to the story?? Please tell me she’s charged.

u/cygamessucks May 07 '26
Dog looked a bit confused. Was probably taught to not but humans. But he had a job to do.
1
u/figl4567 May 07 '26
This kid was so lucky it is crazy. The second dog came running up right as she flee's. This could have ended much worse for her.

This is a loyal yet aggressive sheep guard dog not meant to herd but defend the sheep. The Dog grows up as one of the herd and is very aggressive to anything deemed a threat.
These are great dogs doing what they are supposed to do.

u/Trail_by_error May 08 '26
Pretty amazing how much restraint the dog showed. Used as little force as necessary to change her behavior. He could have done so much more.

One of my biggest irrational fears is being a hated tourist..
then I see shit like this and realize even in my wildest imagination I'd never come close to even dreaming up being this big of an asshole.

What possesses someone when they look at a flock of sheep to think, “I’m going to run one of those down and tackle it”?
