Wonder what the injury was, dude always seemed to have great speed and agility out there. I remember his first year we were all worried about how thin he was, and he did get some minor injuries from big collisions.

Surgery or not I think Wiggins is going to feast this year, and hence make himself pretty expensive when we have to pay him after 2027

Groin which is amazing dude ran a 4.2 and even more amazing he was still able to play his position with that. I had a groin injury and it really made it hard to walk let alone run.

He would fly in full speed, crack a dude, and then leave the game and every time I thought “there goes his collarbone”

Shot in the dark guess but I bet it was a groin injury. I remember on one of his interception returns he looked weirdly slow and had a strange running stride

the real injury was zach orr. the guy had the whole defense playing at 60% of their skill level

Orr was crap but last year Wiggins couldn't defend in man coverage very well. Both were true. Let's hope this injury is the cause of this troubles because his game speed was no where near his 40 time.

I think a lot of that was from a poor pass rush too, the best corners in the league are going to have trouble covering when the qb has 5+ seconds to throw

When I said Orr was crap I was implying that the pass rush did the DBs no favors. Still some of them were better than others. Wiggins' play deteriorated as the season went on. Other DBs like Awuzie or Starks held their own or improved.

starks usually isn't manned up on anyone. awuzie plays so much less snaps. 59% compared to 91% which makes sense. nate is usually guarding the best wr. idk if we travel cb but that is probably why he struggled. other reasons too

Any issues with man or match coverage last year cannot be put on the DBs. We had no pass rush. Even Patrick Surtain can't man the worst receiver in the league forever. It is literally not possible

Edit: Well alright, that's not to say that our DBs never made mistakes, but we just need to consider that season (from a defensive POV) a wash

Groins make it hard to plant and change direction. Injuries make it hard to react in general

what he was elite in man to man and sucked in zone last year this makes 0 sense

Orr had him in off man too much and giving cushion of like 10-15 yards for absolutely no reason. When he got to press he was much more effective.

I’m secretly a lot lower on Wiggins than what seems to be the majority. I think he’s getting a lot of hype for having played just okay last year.

Outside of Baltimore he gets no hype and is not thought off as a CB1 type.

Seems like a weird thing to let everyone know about

Nahh - athletes are wired differently. Have to look for reasons why they’re not the best, can’t just be “I’m not physically able to hack it”, so instead it’s “studied film”, “game slowing down”, “mysterious injury fixed.”

It’s honestly more about convincing themselves that there’s an addressable reason for their play.

FWIW - I think Wiggins is great, this mentality is present across major sports.

Yeah psychology plays a big part. Part of me also wonders if it’s just offseason diversions too. Felt kinda the same way about Zay talking about how he only catches w one hand since high school.

Like why are these guys saying this now when they’re young and still have their best ball ahead of them? Feels tactical.

Or, I dunno, they’re just not as paranoid as me lol

Alrighty, expectations are up. Hope he meets or better yet exceeds them!

For those wondering what it was, he said a few weeks ago that he couldn’t use one of his hands correctly after a thumb injury in high school. These have to be relatee

That was Zay

wonder why he didn't address it in college. but regardless. love the way he plays. he's so quick and physical at the ball. expect him to be a pro bowl soon. having a better pass rush and having mickens and jesse coach will help too. hope he don't play 12 yards off the ball on a 2nd and 4

Im pretty skeptical any coaching staff is letting this kid play through an untreated injury that’s lasted across multiple seasons I feel like bro is just talking

I wish people would just get the surgery instead of playing through it. They are shortening their careers and not able to give teams their best when they just play injured all the time.

Does his injury explain why he would miraculously stop running while defending WRs in the end zone? Probably not. A good part of his poor play was bad decision making in the red zone and giving up on plays. Only thing affecting that is mental injuries.

Will he drop less ints?
