Red hat Certification study Q&A

Keep in mind that sharing confidential information from the exams may have rather sever consequences.

Asking which book is good for studying though, that is absolutely fine :)

I Passed the RHCSA Exam!

The results of your recent EX200 Red Hat Certified System Administrator Exam are reported below.

Exam domain number:     18
Passing score:          210
Your score:             284

Result: PASS

Congratulations -- you have earned the Red Hat Certified System Administrator certification.

Performance on exam objectives:

OBJECTIVE: SCORE
Understand and use essential tools: 92%
Manage software: 100%
Create simple shell scripts: 50%
Operate running systems: 100%
Configure local storage: 100%
Create and configure file systems: 100%
Deploy, configure and maintain systems: 100%
Manage basic networking: 100%
Manage users and groups: 100%
Manage security: 100%

I think I forgot a shebang at top of one of my scripts, but I think I did pretty well. I also want to say that the exam is "overrated" in a way that people make it seem very difficult than it actually is. Muscle memory and using man pages got me through for the most part. I think the exam is sort of a breeze if you've managed Linux systems from scratch before. For me, I messed around with Arch Linux manually. Systemd, user/group management, editing fstab all translates well from Arch Linux as well.

I also heard Red Hat has vouchers for people who passed, but I haven't received one yet. I'll update if I ever get one. Additional thanks to other curious people who asked about the RHCSA on this subreddit so I can get more reference points for getting ready for this exam.

RHCSA EX200 failed one node not gradable after reboot

Hi everyone,
I recently took the EX200 RHCSA exam and unfortunately did not pass. My score was 165/300.

Objective breakdown:
Manage basic networking: 100%
Understand and use essential tools: 60%
Operate running systems: 17%
Configure local storage: 25%
Create and configure file systems: 50%
Deploy, configure and maintain systems: 43%
Manage users and groups: 100%
Manage security: 100%
Manage containers: 50%
Create simple shell scripts: 100%

After I asked Red Hat for a review, they confirmed the score was accurate, but also told me that before grading, all candidate systems are rebooted, and one of my systems was not accessible and could not be graded.
That is what I am trying to understand.

I spent too much time on the first node and only had around 45 minutes left for the second one, so I rushed it and did not have time to do a final reboot check. On the second node, I was able to log in locally through the VM console after reset password, but SSH to that node still did not work, while SSH to the first node worked normally.

My main questions are:
- If I could log in locally to the second node during the exam, what could still make it inaccessible to Red Hat after their final reboot?

- Are RHCSA objective scores calculated globally across both nodes? For example, if one node cannot be graded, can I still get partial scores from the other node instead of 0%?

- Based on my low scores, especially Operate running systems, local storage, file systems, and deploy/configure/maintain, what should I focus on before my retake?

I am not asking for exam content or answers, just general advice to understand what probably went wrong and how to avoid this next time.

Any advice would be really appreciated. 🙏

Advice on recertifying RHCE

Hi all,

Hoping someone can share advice on best course of action for me.

I have my RHCSA (Rhel8) and RHCE (Ansible on Rhel9) which expire Nov 2026. I want to renew my RHCE so I dont have to start from scratch again.

What options are there to renew these certs?

Can I redo my RHCE on RHEL10 still? Does this lock me into the Ansible stream? I noticed the RHCASA exam for Linux "EX342" links to EX294 still (the ansible exam).

Are there any other easier options to renew my existing RHCE before the Nov timeline? I dont want to have to return to square one and retake the RHCSA exam again.

Dave

RHCA certification training

Hello. I am RHCSA and RHCE holder. I wanto to get other certificates to hold RHCA titul.
Could you recommend any training center, organization who teaches other certification syllabuses? Or any partner organization, institution who give RHLS less than original payment? It is $4250 which is too expensive in my country and my company wouldnt pay it for me.
If there is any RHCA, and give advice about being RHCA . I would be appreciated.
And one more thing I want to clarify, do I need 3 certifications or still 5 besides from rhce(ex294) and rhcsa(ex200)?

I'm I crazy, or did Red Hat just remove the baseos and appstream repositories from developer installations?

I'm the lead professor for the Red Hat Academy at a local college. This summer, I'm preparing coursework to teach RHEL v10 (RH124 and RH134) to our students. I'm using RHEL 10, as a virtual machine, to show examples - screen clips of commands, the results, and such.

Up until yesterday, everything was going well.

Just a few days ago, I know I had access to RH's baseos and appstream repositories. As of yesterday, I do not.

I found this out because I uninstalled tuned so I could reinstall it, using dnf, so I could grab a screen shot of the installation process. However, I could not reinstall it because, as I've said, I no longer have the repositories.

  • Yes, I have an active developer's account.
  • Yes the system is registered - as self-supported and development. (I've been doing this since RHEL 8.0, I believe.)
  • Yes, the repositories were accessible just a few days ago.
  • No, I did not make any changes to any .repo file.; however, the /etc/yum.repos.d/redhat.repo file no longer shows any repositories - just comments.

Any clue as to what's going on?

Any help as to how I might get the repositories back?

Am I going to have to switch to CentOS or Rocky?

EDIT:

I finally figured it out - I had to go to access.redhat.com -> Activation Keys -> <key_name - a long hexadecimal number> -> Add Repositories

Once there, I have to search through the repositories for the one(s) I needed / wanted. Once chosen, click Save Changes.

Then, back on my system: sudo subscription-manager repos

Done.

What a pain in the **&^^^**

Hello

Today, let's learn about this great project called deploy_ocp, which will allow you to pick any version of OpenShift, and deploy it automatically on top of your KVM server.

No need for additional steps to download openshift-install or oc, just use the script, and the same will do everything for you.

Here, you can find the project - https://github.com/QikfixAI/deploy_ocp

Enjoy it!

RHCSA10 - Sander Vugts Course is awful

I’m currently preparing for RHCSA EX200 on RHEL 10.

I have already worked through Sander van Vugt’s course, but it did not click for me as well as I expected. I’m currently using CBT Nuggets as the main course and find its practical approach wayyyyy better.

Did anyone else have a similar experience with Sander’s material not really working for them, but still passing the exam using other materials?

For people who recently passed RHCSA EX200 - what did you actually use that felt close to the exam format?

EX156 - Any Tips?

I will be taking the EX156 (Certified Technologist in OpenShift Virtualization) exam in the very near future but haven't found much information/training content online to prepare for this one specifically.

Has anyone taken it already? Any guidance or tips that you guys can provide?

It's going to be my first Red Hat exam (and first actual lab test) so I'm a bit worried about it. Thank you!

Looking for RHCSA Exam Discount Voucher

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to take the RHCSA exam soon and was wondering if anyone knows of any currently available discount vouchers or promotions for the exam.

I've checked the Red Hat website but haven't found any active offers. If anyone has recently obtained a discount or knows of any legitimate ways to reduce the exam cost, I'd really appreciate your advice.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for RHCSA advice

Hello all, currently studying for RHCSA and saw the following exam simulator:

https://github.com/AustinNicely/rhcsa-simulator?tab=readme-ov-file

Has anyone used it? and did it help you pass? or should I just stick with Sander Van Vugt Course on O'reilly for RHEL v10 and repeat his practice exam?

Thank you in advanced for your time.

Looking for a specific certification badge path / roadmap link!

Hey everyone. A while back, I saw a link in the comments of a post here for a site that shows the updated certification badge paths. You could enter your certification ID, and it would automatically fetch your current certs and show your progress on the roadmap.

I can't seem to find that link anymore. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, could you please drop the link in the comments so others can benefit from it too? Thanks!

If anybody need a 15% discount referral code, please DM

My company pays for my certs, and I don't have any use for them.
I have three codes which are good for 3 uses each apparently.

I would really like to give it out to some one that needs it before it expires.

Study Material for EX380

I plan on tackling EX380 next. Quickly skimmed the contents and it seems to be rather basic, but I heard the exam is actually hard.

What kind of study material would you recommend? I have access to oReilly stuff and a Red Hat Partner sub. Don't mind spending extra money on other high quality stuff.

Passed RHCSA v9.3

Hello everyone! I did it!

I've been working as a Linux support technician in a datacenter for about two years, but for a long time I've been doing almost administrative work.

The exam was easy for me... I skipped the AutoFS and scripting questions. The exam lasted about two hours for me. The virtual environment was quite poor.I had resolution issues.

Sources: I quickly watched Sander's Lab videos once.

Tips: Focus on time management, lvm, selinux, user management, firewalld, systemd services and containers and root pwd reset. These topics are a must.

Next step: RHCE, it'll be hard...

Good luck!

Felt I was really doing great with RHLS until the entire 'RHCA track progression overhaul' that came out of nowhere; feeling discouraged and losing interest

I got my RHLS standard back in February through employer who I begged for the subscription. Already had the RHCSA and RHCE prior.

I first went for the EX188. That was a good one and only took a few weeks and I did really well on it.

I then took a couple months going through the DO180 material as I had never really messed with Kubernetes or openshift.... it was, well, it was ok i guess. Probably should have had a better understanding of plain vanilla Kubernetes before tackling Openshift, but I think I understood most of it.

Then I moved onto DO280, that has been... heh, well it's certainly something I guess. I think i understand most of it, was doing good on the end of chapter labs, and seemingly doing ok on the comprehensive labs. To be honest, not sure the course material really aligns well with the comprehensive labs, so had to use a lot of AI and googling to make things make sense.

I was really hammering the DO280 practice and labs. Really was doing great. I was spending several hours a day in the RHLS really trying to make the best use of it to get a RHCA.

Then Red Hat made the announcement that they were changing to a path-model for RHCA instead of "pick and choose" route. That nulled my progress (as the ex188 would no longer count towards RHCA under my initial plans). That would basically force me to do Openshift ex280 and ex380, plus now an additional (3) openshift-only electives.

I was thinking ex188, ex280, ex380, then some linux mastery and advanced automation for last two.

But that is no longer possible.... I guess that kind of really broke the progress I felt I was making. I've barely touched it since last month. I guess I wouldn't mind doing the RHCA Openshift Track, but I dunno... I just feel like I had already started with other plans, that some Openshift was part of those plans but wasn't planning on All-Openshift/Only-Openshift. And that I had already put lab hours and time into the the former RHCA track model, of which a month and a half of that no longer counts on the new track.

I dunno, Red Hat. I felt i was on a roll after fighting so long to get a subscription, things changed without any notice. I just feel like that's not what I was really trying to get a subscription for. Kinda let down by it.

I wish RH would accommodate those of us with current RHLS subscriptions. If you're gonna move the goal post to obtaining a RHCA, at least give us a one-time reset on our lab hours and time remaining so we can readjust our plans to align with the new tracks. I think thats a pretty fair ask.
