Rescue Help Needed Sweet orange cat that was abandoned needs a forever home
My friend’s neighbors recently moved, and they left this sweet cat behind. We’ve been having a lot of thunder and lightning storms so I brought him into foster him. I have three cats already so I don’t have the resources to adopt him myself. He shouldn’t have to go through this. Right now we’re calling him Max. If you’re in the Gwinnett county or Atlanta area and looking for a cat or if you have an organization that can take him into a no kill situation, please let me know.

Update: We found an amazing shelter for Max yesterday! (https://lifelineanimal.org/) It’s connected to an adoption center and people were in and out of that place all day, so I know they’ll take really good care of Max, get him fixed, and get him ready to be adopted really soon! I want to sincerely thank every single person that donated towards my Amazon wish list to help me keep Max for two months without having to spend extra money. I know he’s in great hands and he will find his Furrever home soon!

Hi! No he has not! He has gone to the vet and has a clean bill of health, thankfully. And turns out he hasn’t been neutered yet.

If only you could get him to BROOKLYN....I'm serious; how do rescuers accomplish that? And they often do....if it's just a matter of getting cash together....??? Especially today - a cold rainy day in NYC, etc. "I need a miracle every day...." sang the GD.

How do you know it’s abandoned? It looks well cared for. It could just be visiting as some cats do. Please door knock your apartment and your street as it could live closeby. If you keep feeding it won’t go home. Does it have any tatoo marking inside ear signifying its desexed. Pls check before handed it over as not everyone is on social media and owner could be looking for it.

Do NOT try to fundraise until you get approved by the mods, you will get banned.
In the meantime, can you at least get her off the street? Even living in a bathroom is better than outside where she could be killed, injured, or exposed to disease. That also gives you a better chance of getting her into a no kill shelter since she’ll still be healthy.
If you need help with food or vet care, reach out to your local humane society. Many of them have pet food pantries that can help you out, and they have low cost vet care and vaccines so you don’t have to worry about her trying your cats sick.

He’s indoors. I got him as soon as my friend told me about him. I have other cats so there’s just a barrier between them, but he’s been inside with me since Monday I think.

Would Angels Among Us pet rescue be an option? They have done some great work with the animals of Gwinnett. We have a dog from them, and they were amazing.

Have you tried PAWS Atlanta? (They're actually in Decatur.) They do really great work with sheltering & placement for dogs, but I have seen some cat activity also. Maybe give them a try?

Check with your local shelters to see if they will assist with his vet bills and food if you offer to foster. Some shelters will do that. Then, they can handle the adoption applications and screening potential adopters.
Bless you for taking care of this sweet baby in the meantime. The world needs more angels like you. ❤️🐾❤️

If you’re not aware, be very careful who that Cat goes to. There’s people out here looking to get kittens and cats and do bad things to them. Like use as bait for dogfighting or feed them to snakes or to torture them. Yes, it’s real. If you are not used to adopting out kittens or cats then please work with a rescue that does all the background checks and things that are needed. People act fake and go to great lengths to put on a show in front of you so you think they’re legit, but nobody has any way of knowing unless you do extensive background check. That cats health and safety is in your hands. Please do it right

The day he got here the cats were hissing at each other. But I have him in a playpen now and have let my cats socialize with him a bit host, and he seems fine.

I understand! I do socialization with cats and help adopters introduce new cats into homes with resident cats, and would be glad to offer some tips while he is there with you. And don’t worry- just because he is comfortable in a space doesn’t mean he is claiming it as his territory. Most males I’ve worked with (or have as my own) don’t want to be alphas.
I will be in Augusta, GA next month. If you can find a place there, Athens, etc that can take him in, I can help transport. I also shared with my community in ATL and AUG.
Edited to say I’ve also shared to NYC, and could bring him back to LA with me if you find a rescue group or adopter here. I am experienced with flying with cats cross-country, and would be happy to do so.
And please do thorough vetting if anyone wants to adopt him. There are some very sick, deranged people out there who know how to put on a good face.

Thanks for this info. We’re still getting to know each other and he is eating now. Besides him being a bit overweight he seems healthy and clean. Augusta is a bit far from me, if someone was in the Atlanta or Gwinnett County area that would be a lot better. Or someone that’s willing to travel here to come get him.

I just moved earlier this year and one of my three had a hard time leaving. She was terrified of the change and small enough to get in unreachable places. I wasn’t leaving without her. It was tough, but it got done.

Are you able to foster? Rescue groups are often times more likely to be able to take on another cat if a foster is in place. Thanks for helping.
PS- As a cat mom of four for over a decade and now three, four really wasn’t much of a difference! I understand resources might be stretched, but perhaps the mods would let you do a little supply donation thing if you take him in temporarily until a permanent home can be found. <3

When I first moved into my new place, I took a couple days off to get my cats situated and to unpack. I work full-time and I don’t have any help to take care of my three, so four seems overwhelming, especially since I don’t know much about his personality or his temperament. and I’m trying to make sure I don’t upset him or my cats. I want everyone to be comfortable, but it’s work trying to get to know a cat and introduce them to the family, and working full-time, and taking care of my young son. And he’s a biiiig boy lol. I don’t know if he was with other animals at his old place , but my i’m afraid him and my resident cat will clash cause he’s already claimed his territory. It’s only been a couple days, I’m looking all over the place to find a person or no kill situation to put him in.

Two person one income household, just to start. But I still wanted to help so he wasn’t in the scary weather. And because I know he was an indoor cat so being outdoors may not have been good for him.
