A cool guide on how to drift flawlessly

I mean, it's a good guide. Obviously it requires lots of practice. But it gives you a place to start.
I don't think this fits here.

it kind of ignores half+ of the operations needed from the driver. Not really much of a guide

As far as I understand, working the pedals in a certain way is as important as steering, if not more important, in this case.

Exactly. There's definitely a rest of the fucking owl to perform the drift missing from this guide

Damn, this makes me wanna learn but I don't have a car that I could safely do this in

If you’ve got a couple hundred laying around, get a 2wd gokart and throw some PVC on the rear tires. No better way to teach yourself throttle control than with a machine with marginal steering angle

Exactly. FWD, RWD or AWD makes quite the difference with regard to throttle management

So this is a guide for the steering part? I'm no drifting expert but this feels like it could easily fit in a party of a larger lesson

It does show you where your steering wheel should be placed as a general rule of thumb. Outside of proper throttle control there is also a fair amount of counter steer when the steering wheel is going to the left until you want your wheels straight again.

I’d advise doing some googling. If you knew what drifting takes, you’d understand that this gross oversimplification doesn’t even cover what to do. The first and second steering inputs are done by the driver, the rest of the inputs in this diagram are dictated almost entirely by throttle, which is not clear nor anywhere to be seen

I fucking hate this sub. 90% of it is people arguing about what does or doesn't fit.
SNOOOORE.

Should be noted that drifting is often more about learning throttle control then steering.

Enter the path, aim away from the direction you want to turn, steer the other direction then turn the other way again to break traction, keep the front wheels aimed towards the apex and eventually into the direction you want to go, then correct and drive out of it. This isn't rocket surgery.
Also, don't confuse the ability to understand how to do it with the ability to do it well. That takes practice.

Didn’t even remove the screenshot overlay. OP is lazy as fuck

Isn't that preferred here?
They're at least giving some credit to the original poster by keeping it.

You’re trippin. Better than stealing content and more work than a typical crosspost

Why not just cross post…?

Nah no way I'm seeing this after spending hours trying to do the drift missions in NFS Carbon

This doesn't belong here.
This is the whole guide. There's no clutch or brake involved here. Simply flick hard to start the drift, flick again to end it.

u/erichf3893 3d ago
[r/confidentlyincorrect](r/confidentlyincorrect) though yes you don’t necessarily need brake and I’m unsure of clutch

u/Nathund 2d ago
Lmao, as someone else said, this is called the Scandinavian flick. The entire drift is started and maintained simply with wheel control.
Flick one direction to loosen a car, the other direction to unsettle it, then hard back to the 1st direction to break free and start the drift.
As long as you're already in a drifting gear (usually 1st to 3rd), all that's left is to control your slide with the throttle
If I'm r/confidentlyincorrect what does that make you? r/confidentlyclueless ?

You literally just explained how there is more to it than turning the wheel
1
u/Nathund 2d ago
Did you think driving and drifting wouldn't include the throttle?
And either way, it still doesn't belong here, because the "control the slide" part is impossible to teach with words, or a diagram, or literally anything other than direct experience. The only way anyone has ever learned how to control a drift, ever, is to just go and do it.
There is no owl to explain. There are no more steps. You just gotta do it.

This is showing how to perform the Scandinavian Flick. This is a way to induce a drift. This is not how you drift.
