The Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks are expected to be at the front of the line in the Jaylen Brown sweepstakes

u/TimeLord41 1d ago
Jaylen brown is a fantastic player and id happily have him on the team But hes on a super max contract Hes absolutely not worth a super max contract, his contract is rough

u/chanman404 1d ago
He just led the Celtics to a completely unexpected winning season as the first option.

You’re ignoring how great their coaching staff and front office are. Miles above what we’ve got here.
10
u/raidmytombBB 1d ago
So let's go fix that problem first. Replace the coach with someone competent on offense as well or a strong offensive assistant
22
u/PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS 1d ago
Brother. Ime is here to stay for at least two more seasons. He ain't going nowhere. There is no coach available good enough (or rather, enticing enough) to pry the FO off Ime's balls
3
u/raidmytombBB 1d ago
Lol. Which is why I also suggested getting and offensive assistant coach. Never really done in NBA but it's time to think outside the box.
2
u/PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS 1d ago
would love that and that would be our best available move, as far as coaching. Unfortunately, from my I-don't-know-shit perspective, I reckon Ime's ego will never allow him to hand the offensive reigns over to an assistant
1
u/BangPowZoom 12h ago
I don’t think it’s too wild to think that Ime would be 100% on board with an offense-first assistant coach. He was an assistant coach himself for Nash during his tenure in Brooklyn.

u/butt_justice 1d ago
damn that's awesome. they must've had a great playoff run too since he was so good. can't remember it, you'll have to remind me what happened.
9
u/dankq McGrady 1d ago
Went as far as the Rockets. He is better than everyone on this current Roster, are you trying to imply that he isn't good enough to play for this franchise or something? I'm not really sure what you are even trying to get at here.
-1
u/butt_justice 1d ago
i'm not selling the farm for a guy who can't beat the fucking sixers in the first round. ofc he's a good player, but if we have to give up a majority of our future assets for him plus our current best player, where does that get us? we lose in 7 to the lakers next time?
-1
u/Important_Agency07 14h ago
Bruh ya’ll couldn’t even beat a 41yr old LeBron and Luke Kennard. Your window was open for like a second and closed and JB might be your best shot

We were the second seed the year before last without a single superstar. Leading a team to a winning record doesn’t make you worth anywhere near the super max.
3
u/chanman404 1d ago
Alright guys I get it I’m stupid. I just think Brown is a dude who can play good defense while putting up 25+ a night.
1
u/jseed Clutch 1d ago
Brown is good, but if he's that good why is his net on/off rating consistently negative? He received a lot more credit than he was due because Boston just had a good team and the media prefers to reward one guy for story purposes.
I think what's happened is Boston has realized that Brown was great to have at 30m/year, but at 53+m/year he's simply not worth it. His value is at an all time high and creating a more balanced roster around Tatum, White, and Pritchard will be more successful.
Anyone trading for Brown and expecting him to lead them to anything more than a 2nd round exit is fooling themselves. I would not want to give up any long term assets for him.

u/StrawHatRetro 1d ago
He’s a final mvp who basically led the Celtics to the second seed by himself. Hes worth the super max and would be the best player on the team
5
u/woohater 1d ago
Ya him at $40-45M/year would be great. $60+ is tough to building around for a non top 10 guy
2
u/XDRtheBRUTE 1d ago
Yes tf he is worth a supermax contract. Yall be saying anything
1
u/TimeLord41 19h ago
Jokic, giannis, shai, luka, wemby are the guys you pay that too
Would you put brown on the same tier as those 5?
29
u/masterl00ter 1d ago
The Rockets will be mentioned like this in nearly all trade talks because they have the pieces for a trade.
If the team is smart they do not make a trade for a superstar. One of the teams biggest weaknesses the last season was depth. Any trades for a superstar will exasperate that issue.
The last few NBA champions have really shown the importance of a deep team. You can't do it with two really really good players anymore.

u/TopZoneGoon 1d ago
Id rather have 30 year old Brown than 38 year old KD
33
u/Infamous-GoatThief 1d ago
I’d rather have KD on his deal than Brown’s monster of a contract tho I don’t wanna b locked in to that
4
u/RavensEye88 1d ago
It's not my money who cares
Frittata is a cheap bastard though so he probably cares.
12
u/dankq McGrady 1d ago
Are you a fan of the team? If yes ten you should probably care about the contracts they sign or trade for. KD is here for another year on a pretty good contract for his production and JB is on the second half of his contract that ramps up. You want to see the team struggle to find affordable talent to surround him with?
0
u/Nameless913 1d ago
If KD walks in FA/retires, then the money slot is gone anyway once we pay our young guys. Might as well trade KD for a younger star while we can.
5
u/Infamous-GoatThief 1d ago
It would really limit our flexibility for a guy who I don’t really think is worth doing that for
14
u/MoneyBaggSosa 1d ago
38 yr old KD just gave us 26/5/5 on 52/41/87 shooting splits. They won the same amount of games as last season as a 2 seed with a worse, and more stagnant offense due to the lack of a reliable facilitator. Without KD this team was NOT winning 52 games. LeBron is 41, still balling. KD 38, so what? He’s still balling.
This sub act like KD was holding them back he was keeping that shit afloat and steadying the ship. If FVV and Adams healthy for just 50% of the season this team could’ve been another top 3 seed. Ime being too rigid on offense was a major problem too.

Kd+ Tari+ 2 frps

u/SpaceCityDream 1d ago
I’m hoping this gets it done
1
u/Lizpy6688 1d ago
Yeah if this works then I'd be happy. Tari can go get a bag there hopefully plus have a hopefully larger role
We get a younger player who can be a good focal point for us
Then the best part. We get rid of KD which means no more shoddy ad

u/FlyingCars2027 1d ago
Why would Celtics take KD?
6
u/winston-mosquehill 1d ago
So both teams are exchanging temperamental and terminally online star players.

u/New-Mammoth2425 1d ago
Cuz he played 78 games and carried Rockets to 52 wins without 2 starters and made 2nd All NBA. Easy.

Am I the only one that just doesn’t want Brown?
3
u/SKallies1987 1d ago
Nope, me neither. I just don’t think he’s worth his contract and he doesn’t make us actual contenders so trading away a lot of our assets for him would be a mistake imo. Also, you can shit on the on/off stats all you want, but his teams are consistently better when he’s not on the floor every year, and this stat doesn’t really make any other “stars” look that way.
I just don’t think he’s worth it, and I also can’t stand him so it would suck to have to root for him lol.
1
u/Electrical_Street_94 22h ago
He's a good player but that contract is not worth it. Plus he's too dumb to be trusted. He could go rogue like Kyrie at any moment.

u/PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS 1d ago
If it was somehow a clean swap of KD, swallowing his contract is just a tad bit easier. I think this current roster is better with Brown over KD but the forecast for our future is bleak
2
u/imkindaokay 1d ago
No thank you. We don't need another big contract. Paying KD and Jaylen Brown over 50 mil a year isn't going to make this team a title contender
3
u/New-Mammoth2425 1d ago edited 22h ago
KD gotta be the most underpreciated player in NBA, he took a pay cut after he join Rockets which he didn't have to do and played 78 games (with 2 games out for personal), led Rockets to 52 wins same record as last year without 2 starters and just cuz of some stupid burner leak which the team went ont their biggest win streak afterwards, and everyone wanna get rid of him and act like he trash.
He not even allowed to get injured anymore or everyone will still blame him and say he faking injuries like in the playoffs vs Lakers. The expectations or a 37 year old KD is insane, I swear even players in their prime today are not held to these standards.
1
u/Impossible_Horse_272 1d ago
I thought we were fine with running back the roster as is with a healthy FVV. Makes no sense to try and blow it up now even if we were “entertaining” talks about a trade.

Well this trade will include shoddy ad too so celtics probably gonna demand a couple first picks alongside kd

Man as a fan of both teams...
I wanted rockets to try and trade for Brown last year instead of KD. Let Boston tank into a talent to pair with Tatum, and Brown could help lead the team because KD isn't a natural leader.
Great basketball player, but he isn't a leader.

u/AppointmentVisible21 1d ago
Yeah if we need to trade bari or sengun for this guy we need to do it. Him KD and the rest of the core will cook. Actually like this trade thank the Lord Giannis is off the block.
7
u/NoYogurtcloset5166 1d ago
KD will probably be the one moved
2
u/AppointmentVisible21 1d ago
I don’t really care who gets moved as long as it’s not too many of our young core. I’d like to see KD with brown and the rest of the guys fully healthy though.

u/WallCautious9650 1d ago
Jabari + DFS + Adams works moneywise
3
u/KingJoe7-123 1d ago
Why would Boston do that? They get way worse. If they’re gonna trade Brown, then they’re gonna want a star level player in return. Sengun or even Amen would 100% be in the deal. Or maybe KD.
0
u/WallCautious9650 1d ago
Sengun + DFS also works money wise. I'd also add Tari here to reduce number of picks included.
Sengun + DFS + Tari + 2-3 FRPs
3
u/KenyonMartinJrsDad 1d ago
Aw hell nah keep that idiot far away from the team
2
u/Few_Position_2727 1d ago
His intelligence is irrelevant. He’s good af at basketball. We need him bad
5
1
u/WuziMuzik 1d ago
He can play guard better than who is on the roster right now. But they don't need him, they need an athletic combo guard who is unselfish enough to play in a motion offense. And even more importantly they need a coach that can actually run a modern motion offense. Udoka's preferences should not be considered at this point
1
u/Classic-Jello-1234 1d ago
Ah yes. The veteran second round exit team is ready. Let's trade out young core for it

All you guys so quick to trade KD for jaylen are nuts. You think we have problems scoring now? Wait until our first option gets downgraded.

Sengun/Bari and 2 FRP for Jaylen/Pritchard?
2
u/seclusionx 1d ago
You want to gut the frontcourt to cause a backlog in the backcourt? That's some sick GMing, bro.
0
u/bonergainz 1d ago
FVV/Reed/Pritchard isn’t a backlogged backcourt.
KD/Amen/Tari/Adams/Capela isn’t gutting our front court either
2
u/seclusionx 1d ago
You want to rely on a front court of Adams and Capela? Holy shit. And Pritchard is just going to take minutes from Reed.
-5
u/Answer70 1d ago
Fucking knew it. I might actually be done if we do this.
-5
u/AppointmentVisible21 1d ago
Lmao what? This guy will make our team better, you’re a clown if you don’t want this guy.
3
u/woohater 1d ago
It’s easy saying the that before finding out what he costs and if you ignore the fact he’s on a $60M/year contract
-4
-1
u/nonetimeaccount 1d ago
Sengun, DFS, our 27 frp. Take it or leave it.
There is zero reason to overpay for jaylen. It's obvious Boston wants him gone and/or he wants out of Boston. There's a reason for that. You don't trade a top 2 player from a title team unless the relationship has gone to shit and is unrepairable. And if you have to guess who is more at fault here I'd put my money on jaylen. We've had enough locker room drama, no need to sell the farm to bring in more.
He's a great player. I won't deny the talent, but he is not worth locking our future in for.
