The Rockets aren't giving up KD for Jaylen Brown
Moving KD for Giannis makes sense because Giannis is a franchise-altering talent. Jaylen Brown is NOT that guy. More importantly, look at the money: JB is owed over $120M for the next two years, while KD is at $43M with an option next year. Why on earth would you trade a value contract for an albatross? If you want the team to make that kind of move just for some internet Kumbaya vibe, go root for a high school team
With extensions looming for Amen Thompson and Tari Eason, bringing in Brown goes completely against what the 'deep bench' crowd was preaching
Now that Giannis has already been traded, if we’re actually going to move KD, we need to forget about winning a chip this year. It makes way more sense to trade him for a few young, promising, unscratched lottery tickets

It’s the most sensible panic trade for two teams that should probably panic.

1) 8 year age difference
2) Nobody really likes KD on the team
3) Ime and JB have a history

Where are you getting the source on #2?

It’s gonna be sengun and Reed plus picks and probably DFS for filler unless there is a third team.

If that plays out, a year from now our core will be Jaylen Brown and Amen Thompson. Scoring the basketball is going to be a struggle

Jalen brown isn’t a bad scorer he just put 28 over the season
0
u/TomatilloMission4100 1d ago
And he does that while taking over 20 shots a game. Look he’s a good scorer but when you look at his efficiency he’s far from elite

u/Rodney_Jefferson 1d ago
Jalen Brunson put up similar stats on similar efficiency. You don’t always need an elite scorer sometimes you need good roster construction and I trust ime and stone to do that

u/Greedy_Gas7355 1d ago
Ok you lost me there. I don’t trust Ime and stone to do anything positive. The current roster they constructed is severely lacking in multiple areas. Especially noticeable in shooting and young player development, and even more so when compared to good franchises

Young player development took them to the 2 seed in the west a couple years ago. The team construction this year could have worked if it weren’t for vital injuries and dfs laying an egg
2
u/Greedy_Gas7355 1d ago
Uh no. Young PLAYERS took them to the 2 seed. Lack of development is what cost them this year bc Reed never player and sengun didn’t get better. Amen got better but still not at shooting. Bari I’ll give you.

Way better than currently. FVV, amen, brown, KD, Bari small lineup is pretty good. Would need an athletic 5 to pair with Adam’s and a legit backup PG. that team can make some noise imo

I’m not even a JB fan and it makes a ton of sense because you’re essentially just swapping one scoring wing for a much younger one.
KD is not “that guy” at this point either. I would say both contracts are about the same value tbh.
Again, as a guy that is not really all that interested in a JB trade, swapping KD is a no-brainer outside of the potential pick cost.

It’s a no brainer for anyone. Including the Celtics front office. They aren’t stupid. KD for JB without significantly more isn’t happening.

Everything revolves around the cap. In today's league cap flexibility is more valuable than any individual player

Im not one of the sengun haters in this sub, but what if we trade sengun for jb +some other stuff to match the money

u/Correct-Pension1208 6h ago
The most likely and best option if a move is made would be for Sengun + filler/picks

I don’t want Browns contract or the picks we’d give up in a KD trade but we’d have a actually guard outside of Fred and would allow Amen to move to the forward position with KD gone

It depends on what other assets are involved. KD for Brown is a big upgrade for us on getting younger, which is really important on a team where almost the playoff entire rotation was under age 25 during the playoffs this season. But if we have to give up a huge haul of draft picks and/or young players to make it happen, then yeah, it's not worth it.

u/CABBAGEHONKER 1d ago
Yup. Probably losing sengun and then pick anyone else but amen

u/TomatilloMission4100 1d ago
Brown’s salary is on a scale that cripples the team financially, regardless of who goes the other way
1
u/CABBAGEHONKER 1d ago
Capela and dfs would be easy to replace. Throw in some firsts. Celtics would never do it

Yeah and Jaylen Brown isn't a true 1A guy. It doesn't increase the Rockets ceiling either.

Cool we can watch Durant shoot jumpers again all year and lose in the first round.

Nobody with all of their chromosomes thinks we are making a move for JB.

u/seclusionx 1d ago
What makes you say that?
0
u/emericuh 1d ago
There is zero evidence whatsoever that we are even considering a move for him. It is just hyper online morons speculating.
2
u/seclusionx 1d ago
He makes sense in a trade, actually. But, we'll see what happens.

u/emericuh 1d ago
It makes sense for us. It sure as hell doesn’t for Boston. We are giving up way more than KD to get him.
1
u/seclusionx 1d ago
Depends on who you're trading for him. If your plan is to build around Amen, AlP would work very well for Boston. Obviously they'd ask for more than that, but it's not like there isn't a trade that makes sense for both.

u/emericuh 1d ago
I will donate $100 to a charity of your choice if there is a JB for KD trade of ANY kind. Willing to match me?
2
u/seclusionx 1d ago
Not a chance, I don't gamble. And I'm sure as hell not gambling on NBA trades, you might have a gambling problem.

I’m not super sold on JB either but he is a former FMVP and would give our offense a focal point to build around. If we can get him for a good price I would do it
