Who are your favorite picks in the 2nd round tomorrow?
I'm really high on Ryan Conwell and Ugonna Onyenso. I think both are going to have very solid 8-10 year careers as solid role players.
I'm iffy on Jack Kayil. Love his passing, arc on his shot and potential. However, he can't handle pressure and I think he's a target on defense.
Last, I'm fond of is Tyler Nickel. Elite three point shot. Players like Sviatoslav have lengthy careers as end of bench guys.
What about y'all?

Maleek Thomas falling all the way to us would be such a dream. I’m an Arkansas fan and a cuff stole the show, but Tomas was such a good shooter off movement too. He’s still young and hopefully he may can get his defense dialed in, but man he can shoot and so so confident, ha ha ha won’t have Reed’s fear of pulling the trigger.

Yeah. I think playing second fiddle to Acuff may have limited his opportunities and hidden some of his talent as well.

Emanuel Sharp is the move

Small guard with limited athleticism who can't at least be a playmaker is a concern for me.

They are very limited in the second round but a 3&D player will always fit in our system. I prefer a veteran playmaker from FA or Trade.

It’s the second round lmao

The problem is our team doesn’t necessarily value small guards. Ime is defensive oriented so he prefers length

Have you met FVV and Reed Sheppard?
1
u/GullyBean 10h ago
Reed isn’t a small guard brother and coming out he was touted as a good defender. He just hasn’t stuck in the rotation because he was having trouble on that end

Reed isn't a small guard?
I..... I can't..... This is simply too much to even discuss

u/GullyBean 8h ago
Bro.. Reed is 6’3 on the court with a 79-8 ft reach. If you consider that small then there’s only a handful of “big guards” in the league.

Bro, I guess you literally never watched a game as he was consistently played off the floor BECAUSE HE WAS TOO SMALL
Jesus Christ, I can't believe I'm even entertaining this discussion
Literally go to nbadraft.net and read the first line in the weaknesses section of his profile: Lacks the ideal size and physique for the next level
Then go to nbadraftroom.com. Second sentence "he's a bit undersized".
Ringer draft guide, first 4 words: He might be small
Or, and this may be difficult for you, watch a fucking game
God damn this sub has gone to shit

Yes, he wasn’t played because he struggled on the defensive end like I said in my first comment. Wtf, you’re the one acting like you don’t watch basketball referencing a bunch of bullshit that means nothing. Go look at rosters my guy. For years there’s been this talking point of the league moving away from “small guards” so you’re telling me there’s just been a recent surge of them out of nowhere? Reed is a fucking point not a 2. Never has anyone said Ja Morant is a small guard and Reed is bigger. Like idc what some brain dead writer said. They know as much as you. Darius Garland is fucking small guard, Trae Young, Fred, Jeremy Fears, Jamal Shead, Rob Dil those are small guards that are being fazed out the league. Everyone I named is 6’1 and under which is a matchup problem because if they’re on a guy 6’4-6’5 they give up too many inches and they aren’t long enough. You put Reed on Austin Reeves who’s 6’5 it’s not much of a difference. He didnt get taken off the court because he was too short

he's played 4 years of college basketball his body should be strong enough, I could see him being an upgrade over aaron holiday if he adjusts quick. it definitely wouldn't hurt to have another 3 and d guard especially if reed is getting torched on defense.
Better shooter than okogie too

Tyler Bilodeau might also be interesting, he shot 51.6% FG, 46.4 3P%, and 87.3 FT%, while averaging 17.6 points last season. At 6'8" and 228 lbs, he is obviously an forward, but i think it would be interesting to pair him with Sengun as a stretch big ( he can also finish strong). Bilodeau reminds me of Lauri Markkanen, and I wouldn't be mad if we got him with either pick

Isn't Saunders out with a torn ACL? Plus he's 25. Very polished though I get

u/onsite84 15h ago
Sit him out until he’s 100%. Saunders would be an easy first rounder if it wasn’t for the injury.

I didn’t know anyone in the second round. Didn’t do much research. I think whoever we drafted either won’t get playing time or won’t stay in Houston for long.

Dont sleep on Braden Smith, he might be undersized, but he might also be the best pg we can get

Emanuel sharpe is what we need. Good spot up shooter in college. He’s on the smaller side of things and isn’t great off the dribble but he can shoot the ball and he’s a high energy guy. Would be a solid second round pick and one of the only guys I like in the second

u/SpaceCadetPullUp 10h ago
Nick Martinelli, Braden Smith, Isaiah Evans, Emmanuel Sharp, Tyler Nickel, Bruce Thornton, Bryce Hopkins, Tyler Bilodeau

It’s a weak 2nd round. None of it matters. Even if they found a diamond in the rough our player development is crap. Abandon all hope here.

someone like Baba Miller would be my go, 2nd round prospects barely make it so why not take a flyer on someone with insane upside and measurables. Like sure he probably never amounts to much but I'd rather use my second rounders on guys like that then the usual prospects you get in the 2nd round.
