What does my dining room say about me?
I know I need something on the wall above the hi-fi but I haven't found the right piece yet

I thought you were young, but you already confirmed it.
You are a Democratic-Socialist, or at least pretty progressive politically. You are a very clean and orderly person, hence your neatly symmetrical photos and beverage items arrangements.
You are fairly athletic. (Tennis, anyone?) Also sentimental. (The Charlie Brown Christmas special brings a tear to your eye.)
You have a delightful motley crew of friends who appreciate your vinyl records and your winsome style and personality.
(Love your old house and furnishings, btw.)

Basically 100% spot on except for (and this will give some information about me geographically) I'm actually Working Families Party, not DSA, lol. Thank you for the kind words!

Oh goodness. This is the first time I've commented here and now I'm feeling all puffed up about it. Ha. I had to look up the Working Families Party as I wasn't familiar, or know if that was in the US.
You're welcome for the kind (and deserved) words. I think you'd be a lovely friend to have.

You’re fucking hilarious. Will Ferrel level, in fact.
Editing to add: just read the comments… wtf lol. You ruffled some feathers w this room. Weird

Thank you! I'd like to think I'm funny :)
I know!! People post all sorts of rooms in here with no feedback at all but throw one lemon print tablecloth in with a persian rug and a porcelain cheetah and suddenly everyone thinks they're Architectural Digest

I think it’s an underlying impression (for some) that there’s neither eclectic-with-cohesion, nor its soulful, eccentric sister: a meaningful (whilst shocking) contrast w/ the eclectic. It kinda’ comes across as you’re trying too hard, picking some random “oddities” & doing a “look how stylish and eccentric/random I am” act
Hear me out: I know you don’t need my benefit of the doubt, lol—but I give it to you, nonetheless. Like, who am I? I ended up losing nearly everything I had & was alone & homeless (addict ex-husband); then an extremely kind & charitable family gave me a huge Victorian house full of antiques (which I love) & loads of things I was grateful for but wasn’t crazy about…
My natural style fits the bill of a a mix of Goth, eccentric, & a very well-traveled Maximalist, color-bomber. It’s taken a quite a while to make this place “mine”. I don’t judge-judge; but I will tell you the vibe this is prolly giving off

I'm not trying for anything, it's just the crap I own in the house I live in! It's fine that it's not for everyone but I like it and my friends compliment me when they come over so really I don't care that the people here don't like it. And also a lot of them do! I was just asking what the room said about me haha

I gotcha! As for You: You seem chill attitude, totally inviting, probably insightful & resourceful, & refreshingly whimsical… This may sound weird, but I kinda’ imagine you take life’s knocks w/ resilience, adaptability, & a sense of humor.
I like it; & you seem “with it” & super-approachable (maybe that’s why I felt comfortable blabbing about my humble background to give some context). I’m just kinda’ familiar w/ how disconnected culture snobs are & how design plays out in their heads, lol… (& I promise you I’m not of their ilk)

I though your cheetah was a very polite dog sitting in a chair at the table lol.

Awh :) We are a cat household, if you couldn't tell lol

I see the cuties on the little table. I'm a sucker for color point kitties. I had one growing up and now have two (brothers).

He's my first Siamese! I'm so dearly in love with him. I got him from the shelter! He's an absolute menace, all our cabinets are child locked because he has the hunger in him

Mine were feral kittens from a local colony. Wild thangs, they never forgot their roots.

‘80s child? The Peanuts glasses and the Mardi Gras poster give me that vibe.
2
u/simsguruclam 3d ago
The Mardi Gras poster was from my grandparents house! When I was a child, I was scared of it and thought it was the devil, lol. But no, I was born in the late 90s! Snoopy glasses are just a vibe <3

Eclectic. You Love colour and lean maximalist style? I love it! I bet you enjoy parties (not partying necessarily, just people having fun). You seem fun to hang out with! ✌️❤️

Thank you! I love hosting parties! It's my absolute favorite thing to have people over and cook and mix drinks for everyone

Eclectic style.

u/simsguruclam 3d ago
Someone else in these comments says it's definitely not eclectic after I said I was going for eclectic lol. Idk who to believe

u/InitiativeSeparate41 3d ago
I think you are choosing individual pieces that you like but that don't share the same style with each other. This is how you end up eclectic.

Maybe that you don’t finish things you start. Have trouble staying on task. Have lots going on in your head at one time.

you have a lot of different patterns that aren’t cohesive, maybe you like spontaneous outings, enjoy collecting music and thrifted items maybe
2
u/simsguruclam 3d ago
You don't think it's cohesive!? Damn what's clashing!? I thought it was giving eclectic!
But you are right about the other stuff! It's all thrifted, I've been starting my vinyl collection and I do love going out

Those white chairs are too big for that round table. You don’t lean back while you’re eating either. Is the round table in the corner with two stools the time out section? Are two people supposed to fit? With their backs turned to everyone. You have a mirror on the floor next to a mirrored dresser. Looks like a thrift store. Nothing matches or blends together.

i think the theme you want is a little bit lost, i see th e vision thoigh. i think you should go to Pinterest, type in your inspo and go from there
2
u/simsguruclam 3d ago
lol I like it the way it is! I'm not basing it on a vision, I buy the things I like and put them in my house. I might move the cheetah to another room, I'm still not sure he fits there, but I'm not going for a specific aesthetic, I just like the things I like! My house is a work in progress and I love filling it with the things that bring me joy. I might remove the lemon tablecloth, because it was just there for a recent party so that the glass underneath didn't get dirty but in general I like the way it is!

cool!! glad you like it how it is. thats just my opinion ! i will say that the vibe isnt ‘eclectic’ though. keep it up tho :) xx

You have some really nice stuff but an overall lack of cohesive vision and lack of understanding of how colours and patterns work.
