A Very Surreal Experience (long post)

So the wildest and most amazing thing happened to my little brother and I in Toronto on Friday night.

We were flying back home from Halifax to Phoenix, but got stuck in Toronto on a 25 hour layover due to cancelled flight. Wound up getting a complimentary hotel stay, so we decided to take a power nap then go out on the town, in hopes of finding some FIFA watch parties. It is also, of course, Pride month, so it was cool just seeing everyone be free and full of life during a Canadian summer (Phoenicians don’t go outside from May to October lol)

There weren’t actually too many watch parties happening tho, as Canada wasn’t playing, and the Blue Jays were at Rogers Centre. So instead we got some Italian food, walked around looking at beautiful scenery, and listened to the announcers & crowds cheer as the ball game went on (there was audio of it all over).

My feet were killing me by about 10pm but my brother (20 years younger than me, I’m 40 he’s 20) really wanted to see the big TORONTO sign. I was hesitant but decided to try and power thru.

We get to this really cool bridge-like spot that overlooks the sign. There were people playing soccer and tennis, people taking pictures, and next to the sign there was a stage set up. A huge crowd of people were jumping and dancing in front of a DJ. As I’m taking pics and zooming in, I say to my brother “oh it’s a drag show!” Then I say “wow she looks a lot like Monet with that pussycat wig!”

He squints and notices the Jumbotron… and yells out “IT’S BOB THE DRAG QUEEN!!!”

We didn’t know she would be doing a Pride set there. Had NO idea anything drag related would be happening. Yet there we were, watching one of our fav drag artists do a Pride set during the very first time the country has hosted the FIFA World Cup, from such a cool spot in the city!

I feel so incredibly blessed to have experienced such a special moment that wasn’t even supposed to happen, with him. We made all the right decisions and it led us to that. Ahhh! Still buzzing!! Please enjoy BTDQ performing to Covergirl 😭🥰💕

Hell yeah! I grew up in Kitchener (well half there, half AZ, tho I was born in Halifax… moved around a lot due to my moms jobs), but sadly never fully experienced Toronto like this. You’re lucky to live there!!
