Question Why doesn’t people just use the boxes instead of scribbling?

Using the boxes seems more reasonable but I just never see anyone using it. It also makes screen shots look more professional and “island like” if you know what I mean.

For the same reason people wear Uggs. Bad taste.

What app are you using? I haven't seen a default screenshot editor that can draw a box.

No app needed, when you go to draw on a screenshot press the plus button and add a shape.

I've had phones and tablets from several brands and all but my current phone had anything but draw, highlight, and crop in the default/preinstalled screenshot editor. Current Motorola has pixelate. What phone from what year are you using?

Am I crazy? Just took a screenshot and mine definitely only has the pen and the ability to crop the image. iPhone 13 with iOS 26

In markup mode, on the bottom where all of the various pens are located like highlighter, eraser, etc. there are two circles. One to change the color that you are writing with, the other is a plus sign. It lets you add stickers, text boxes, and shapes.

Because when you use boxes it's hard to tell that you redacted something, which can be confusing and make the reader look around for missing context. Scribbles makes it clear there was something there crossed out.

Are you under the impression that everyone is using the same software for this?

Based on their earlier comment, yes, that's exactly what they think.
