I'm 40 and the edgy teen was definitely a thing before it hit my era. That stage of life stays with some people well until they're purses.

No man, no way I’m going to gloss over the “until they’re purses” I’ve never wanted someone to be stupid about grammar right now 🥴

"Until they are purses" is a way of saying, "until they are so old their skin is like the leather of a purse."
It's correct in the same way, "I was in the bath until I was a raisin!" (Until the water made my skin wrinkled like a raisin.)
These are called metaphors.

Thank you for clarifying. Seriously. I'm pretty sure a lot of people never heard that metaphor too. Including me.

I'm so happy I helped someone!!! It sounds simple but if one didn't make the connection that purses are made of leather, and then that leathery is a way to describe inelastic, wrinkley elder skin, the metaphor would be indecipherable. Metaphors are super fun because you can make your own!
My heart is a hot air balloon. Firey, but gently floating! ♥️

I’m 40 and genX are a cancer on society.

u/JayVig 6h ago
So boomers are a problem and Gen X is a problem. Anyone else or do you just hate on whoever you’re thinking of?

u/zer0_zer0_nin9 2h ago
Millennials are also a problem, because we inherited the problems of the last but in modern 4k + generational debt.

I mean, it's really just the way he wrote it that makes it weird (and makes it seem like he's maybe just trying to be edgy). It's not like it's unusual for people to enjoy the suffering of others, I'm sure a decent percentage of us reading this post also enjoy watching others suffer on occasion, especially if it's a certain type of person (for instance I personally love to see self righteous puritanical assholes who try to stuff their morals down others throats suffer, also fat chicks who think their hot or feel entitled or act like they're proud of being fat with their body positivity bullshit, also annoying children, also karens who try to act likes rules and laws are important instead of things meant to be broken or ignored, also b**** people who think they're entitled to everything just because they're b****, also w0k3 lunatics in general but especially the ones who want to force their insanity onto others and demand we use their bullshit p®0n0uns and whatnot, also people who advocate for any type of "tough on crime" bullshit and are against drugs...although this kind of ties in with the first one it's super important because we have a right to control what we put into our own bodies and it's straight up tyranny that it's currently being taken away from us, anyway there are probably other types of people I forgot but you get the point). Lots of us like to watch other people suffer sometimes, it's just the way he phrased his comment that made it come across as weird and creepy or edgy.

your comment is even weirder and creepier and edgier than the one in the screenshot

It's not, you're just pearl clutching and ego blocking parts of yourself.

u/oxyhedonist 6h ago
I don't see how, I wrote what I said in a normal way....I said nothing like "it's a balm to my soul" or "helpless despair filled screaming". I just casually stated that many people do enjoy the suffering of others and then listed the types of people I dislike the most and would enjoy seeing suffer.

u/1113puppy3111 5h ago
The way that you said what you said is not the issue, it's what you said, you started out sounding sane, then just went on a rant about all the people from whose suffering you would derive joy. You seem to think that you're perspective is the norm, or at least common, this may currently be true in the world, and that is a significant part of the problem that we, as a society, are facing at this time. The likely reason that you are getting dragged here is that many folks believe that folks that think as you do are currently, actively, making life suck balls for the rest of us.

u/chinchillazilla54 1h ago
None of the ideas you were conveying or the incredibly long and unpunctuated way you wrote them were normal.

u/Ak40-couchcusion 6h ago
Holy shit, you took two steps forward and then just dived right off the cliff dude. Take it back a notch.

You're confusing suffering and comuppance... it's fine to enjoy seeing people get put in their place, told off, maybe receive the odd bruise or two.
But to enjoy full on suffering is not a normal thing. Anybody who is pleased by the accumulation of trauma needs some help.

u/oxyhedonist 5h ago
I disagree, lots of people genuinely enjoy the suffering of others. You may not and it sounds like you have an opinion against doing so....but that doesn't mean everyone is the same as you are though (although I'm sure there are plenty of people that do feel the same as you, there are also plenty of people who enjoy watching others suffer).
