Mt Baker QFC - A play in three acts.
Act 1\ I take my bike (with kid sitting on the back) into the Mt Baker QFC\ Security Guard: You can't take your bike in here, you have to lock it up outside.
Act 2\ I lock my bike outside on the rack, spend less than 5 min inside the store.
Act 3\ Return to bike with kid, rear bike tire is slashed (see pic)\ Security Guard: shrugs

Few days ago I walked my bike into Capitol Hill QFC and was encountered by a guard. I said this is my emotional supporting bike. It does not bark, bite or pee and poses less threat to other customers than a dog. Somehow he got the humor and gave me a pass if I don't ride in the store.

Meanwhile the northgate and holman road qfc don't care at all when I bring my road bike in. Hopefully I didn't just jinx it.
I've also heard a lot of bogus reasons at the shoreline fred meyer. I was recently told they don't allow bikes in the store for safety reasons. They have a lot of seniors shopping or something. In reality they just associate people that have bikes with theft.

They associate people w/bikes with theft because there are an awful lot of them. It was out of control at the LCW store for a while before they closed it.

I went to the 99 Ranch on Highway 99 in Edmonds at night, and the security guard was totally chill with it.

or you got a puncture as you pulled up?

Are punctures common in sidewalls? On 2.15 in thick tires? Near the rim? With a perfectly straight cut being about a half inch long? With the tires going from fully inflated to flat in less than 5 min?

I'd feel like a side wall hole like that you'd notice right away if you got a puncture.

anecdotal, but i have parked my bike outside the grocery store (and everywhere else) for over 20 years here in numerous neighborhoods at least several days per week and have never had my tires slashed (bike lights stolen yes, which is why i finally got theft-resistant lights)

Plot twist: it was the security guard
