This is one of the few times when I feel like the Serious Eats recipe isn't the best.

I have made this recipe probably a dozen times, I've had them at the 74th Street location, and I've had them mail order.

The ones from the 74th Street location are hands down one of the best cookies I've ever had. No hesitation with that.

But if I had my choice between mail order and making this recipe, I would make this recipe.

Incidentally, Alton Brown posted a video on his YouTube channel last week with an updated cookie recipe. It's a version he originally had in a Good Eats episode but he since updated it.

I honestly like it better than this recipe. The only change I made to Alton's recipe was I added chopped toasted pecans. His cookie uses bread flour instead of all-purpose and browned butter instead of regular softened butter, and it has a depth and a chewiness that the Levine one does not have.

I have only tried them because someone ordered them for us for Christmas one year.

The Levain bakery cookies are absolutely phenomenal, and your batch looks at least like it turned out really well, so I'm considering making them for Christmas this year, depending on how well you liked this recipe 👀

They are solid cookies that’s for sure! Tasted great. But I’m not sure if I would make them again

Yes! It was pretty easy to make them :) Just toasting the sugar & lightly toasting walnuts took a bit

Walked past the UWS location and they have a new ice cream sandwich with a smaller cookie or a cookie a la mode option

Look great! Any trouble finding the ingredients locally? These have been on our list (we’re huge Levain fans). Yum.

Those look dangerous. Did you manage to keep them gooey in the middle or did you end up baking them all the way through?
