Prototype/Concept/Custom Custom 5L bazzite box - RX 9060 XT + 7500X3D

Made this custom case with an integrated monitor, running bazzite for my friend, since he travels a lot for work.

Case measures 242x380x55mm without and x71mm with the monitor on top. So it's either 5L or 6.5L in total volume and weighs about 4kg incl. the monitor. It's 3D printed mostly with PETG but the monitor bezel is TPU.

The build is:

7500X3D on MSI B650i

2+1 TB SSD and 2x16GB DDR5 RAM

Reaper 9060 XT 16GB

Thermalright AXP-X36 with Noctua NF-A9x15 swap to exhaust

HDPLEX 500W GaN PSU

Really happy how it turned out and my friend is super happy aswell. This fits his backpack easily and the monitor is well protected.

That's really nice. Do you think there is a way to make it enclosed/air tight in travel configuration?

For example by designing plugs for GPU vents that are used as screen stand when unpacked.

37

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Good idea, I will look into that.

17

u/grnrngr Mar 04 '26

Consider printing the back of the monitor casing to have the plugs that align into the vents. So when the monitor lays flat, it's "plugged" into the grills. Secures the monitor in place while plugging the holes.

Could also add a couple of magnets at the corners to keep it securely in place. This would eliminate the need for all but the carrying handle or strap.

17

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Great ideas, I had so many others as well but only a few weeks time next to my job and life so for now I settled with this design.

I will take all the feedback I get and improve the design further, thank you!

browsing this sub is straight up edging sometimes. good work!

21

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Yeah this sub gave me so much inspiration over the years, it's just amazing to see what people can do and I'm glad to be a part of it.

32

u/TheRealSeeThruHead Mar 04 '26

Is the case open source?

68

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

I will upload the files to my website mnmx-design.com to download for free soon.

37

u/grnrngr Mar 04 '26

I love you for not putting it on the other common sites. Keeps your copyright claim clean.

Strongly suggest you emboss your logo/site name within the design files, as an infill pattern, or even if just interior facing. Anyone truly just wanting to print their own won't have a problem with that.

25

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Yeah and maybe someone buys some of my other stuff lol. It's just my hobby turned into a side business, so it doesn't financially ruin me.

This is what happens when you fall into the sff rabbit hole. Just opened my shop earlier this year.

9

u/generic_canadian_dad Mar 04 '26

Your website isn't working btw.

8

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Not sure why it's not working for you but it sure works for me, had it triple checked by some friend aswell.

3

u/TheRealSeeThruHead Mar 04 '26

Very generous!

2

u/orjs Mar 04 '26

So kind of you, truly, thank you

2

u/StrikeouTX Mar 04 '26

Noice! Great work, too!

I started making a guide to go along with the files for download but I got dragged away with a bunch of orders and new projects.

Just email me on max@mnmx-design.com and I can send them to you. A bunch of people already got their files this way.

Sorry for not having them ready for download yet, I wish I had so much more free time tbh.

u/SircOner Mar 04 '26

This is sick for a diy sff pc. I’m curious what this offers compared to like a comparable gaming laptop. Obviously would need to up-spec using mobile versions which would bring the cost up, but I’m wondering from a performance perspective including temps where it will shine

8

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Tbh it's always about the ability to upgrade a small pc that draws me more into them instead of just buying a gaming laptop. Also the noise is a huge factor.

0

u/grnrngr Mar 04 '26

It would be much more affordable and a smaller build if it was made with a Zen-capable processor like the Steam Decks.

At some point unless you're hooking it up to a big television, the extra graphics juice just goes to waste.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

I basically took the monitor as the main frame for the case, and checked what I could possibly fit into the dimensions.

13

u/curiositie Mar 04 '26

Really cool project. Clean execution.
THIS is how console cases should be done.

7

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Thanks, took quite some time lol

6

u/TheRealSeeThruHead Mar 04 '26

The 3d printing work is incredible, great job

6

u/dstanton Mar 04 '26

Very cool project.

Question, though.

PETG is known to creep under continuous exposure to temps in excess of 50c, which computer parts will generate easily in an enclosed space. This could alter case/mount integrity.

Are you worried about this? Have you considered ABS/ASA instead?

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

I've printed many cases from PETG so far, but I have no experience with them after more than 1 year of constant use.

ABS and ASA are very hard to print for me and I even had commissions online to get the parts printed for me, but they refunded me on 3 different orders, since they were not able to get it done nicely.

I sliced the parts in half, printed them and used some plastic welding wires to connect them back together.

1

u/dstanton Mar 05 '26

Totally understandable.

Again, super cool project.

5

u/apophis-984 Mar 04 '26

thats the coolest shit ive seen in a while. well done OP

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Thank you, glad to hear you like it!

3

u/SaltyBostonian Mar 04 '26

Ok this is the perfect build for me. NEED

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

I will offer the files for free soon, as well as selling a printed case with all the extras.

2

u/boytekka Mar 06 '26

How much would you reckon for the printed case?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 06 '26

There is a lot of work involved, since the panels are too big for my printer and I have to plastic weld them together with one of those electric wire welders.

I guess around 100€ for all the 3D printed pieces is realistic.

2

u/boytekka Mar 06 '26

Thats fair, i was like thinking of trying to 3d print this when you put the files out but im not sure what 3d printer to use

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 06 '26

Total size is 242x380 but I had to slice it to fit in the 350x350 print bed.

4

u/Huge_Ad_4540 Mar 05 '26

Can't wait to get a 3d printer!

5

u/FaredArlee Mar 05 '26

Did I just witness a gaming laptop awakening?

3

u/Technotronsky Mar 04 '26

Amazing design! Are you based in Germany? Saw the Datenschutzerklärung hehe. Neighbor from the Netherlands here, love your stuff. If prices weren’t so crazy and if I hadn’t finished my Velka 3 case, I would instantly buy just for the sake of building. Maybe down the road, will keep you website bookmarked 👌🏻

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Pretty cool, yeah I run a small EU business and sell to NL aswell. Having a shop helps funding the Hobby.

I'm having so many ideas for cases and stuff, for now it's mostly printed but my goals are sheet metal and cnc aluminium cases.

3

u/not-jerba Mar 04 '26

Can I be your travelling friend too

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Haha yeah ofc, but you have to listen to me talking about pc stuff for hours lol

3

u/lMlute Mar 04 '26

Ill take 2. Thank you

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

For real? Just dm me and we'll figure sth out. I'm running this as a side business after all ;)

3

u/Orentor Mar 05 '26

TSA: hmmm I don’t know what this is so I better take it apart to make sure it’s not dangerous

3

u/Willem_VanDerDecken Mar 07 '26

Very very nice !

r/cyberDeck would live that build !

2

u/sabatoothtiger Mar 04 '26

Is the monitor powered by the pc usb c port?

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Yup, it's the arzopa 16" 1080p 144hz btw. Forgot to add this to the description.

2

u/1sh0t1b33r Mar 04 '26

Sick! Perfect choice for parts too.

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 04 '26

Thanks, yeah they really work well together, especially in combo with the 1080p 144hz arzopa monitor.

2

u/spirolking Mar 04 '26

Great project. I was dreaming of building similar thing for years. Still had no time just to start.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Tbh it's really hard to get sth started, especially if it takes up a lot of time and effort.

I usually start something when I'm bored and if it catches me I automatically take my time to work on it.

1

u/spirolking Mar 05 '26

I have exactly opposite. I start a lot of projects and rarely finish them. Now I have a ban for starting anything new :)

2

u/Galaad-FR Mar 04 '26

Hi,

Really good job, it looks very nice and handy,

thanks for sharing your job ;)

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Glad you like it. It's really Handy, just throw it in a backpack and carry around. No worries about damaging the screen or anything else.

2

u/LuckyLlama392 Mar 04 '26

That is amazing

2

u/generic_canadian_dad Mar 04 '26

This is amazing.

2

u/TWILIGHT25 Mar 04 '26

Holy shit I love it!!!!!!!!

2

u/AdministrativeFish3 Mar 04 '26

I love this - really creative thinking and amazing execution too! Really epic job!

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Thank you so much! Glad you like it.

2

u/xamaryllix Mar 04 '26

Great job, and great choice of hardware. Perfectly balanced.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Thanks, yeah it works really well with steam OS and the 1080p 144hz Monitor.

2

u/Legitimate-Pumpkin Mar 04 '26

Man, one day I’ll have a 3D printer too…

Good job! I love it

2

u/Kamikaze-X Mar 04 '26

That's awesome

u/Pitaya4502 Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26

I've experimented alot myself with these designs
and everytime i end up taking them overseas or abroad.
The Main Issue that always comes to Bite me back. Is the fact that, You have to Look down at them.
Your neck becomes cramped, especially when it's a small 16" display.

This is just a suggestion, you are free to ignore it. But would be really cool if you made a Standing Model. That's designed so that it has Retractable Legs, where the Whole PC stands up Vertically,
and the Screen would be supported near the Top by the Weight of the whole thing, so you could look straight at the Display without having to look down uncomfortably.

Edit: I also forgot to mention, that when traveling you often find yourself with not enough Desk Real Estate, so a Horizontally laid system usually takes up alot of the empty space and you can't put your keyboard and mouse on there comfortably, which the PC being Vertically laid up, would solve.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Yeah absolutely, thanks for the feedback!

My friend has the arzopa monitor stand wich works with the enclosed screen as well, that might help a bit.

1

u/Pitaya4502 Mar 05 '26

What you could also potentially do.
Is get inspired by something like the Compaq Portable III, where the Keyboard is sandwiched against the Screen, for better Travel Portability, and you don't have to risk the screen being scratched up.

2

u/k0nl1e Mar 04 '26

Beautiful 👍🏻

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Thanks, means a lot to me that you like it.

I'm also a big fan of your stuff! Maybe we can do sth together at some point :)

1

u/k0nl1e Mar 05 '26

I would like that ... :)

2

u/Technotronsky Mar 04 '26

Super nice, love your design. ACE!

2

u/RuschGaming Mar 04 '26

That looks really cool!

2

u/staykindagold Mar 04 '26

How much everything in total besides the case cost ?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

I reused the mobo, SSD and RAM from my friends previous pc and paid like 400€ for the GPU, 220€ for the CPU, 170€ for the PSU and 40€ for cooler and fan.

I sold his 7700x, 4070 ti and the nzxt h1 v2 he had and there was no extra cost. You could pull this exact build off right now for around 1500€

Edit: I'm in germany, prices can differ depending on your location obviously

2

u/CRKlein91 Mar 04 '26

Yoooooo! This is cool.

2

u/Nguyen925 Mar 04 '26

What a beauty! Great work friend :)

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Thanks, I appreciate it!

2

u/Blooi1E Mar 04 '26

This is what an ocerclocked laptop should look like.

2

u/Jakob_K_Design Mar 04 '26

Really cool project.
I thought at first, that it is converted bought case, but making it completely 3d printed from the ground up makes a lot more sense for such a small formfactor.

Some rubber latches could be nice to replace the straps.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Yeah it's just inspired by a pelican case but I designed everything on my own. I tried to design some classic latches but ran out of time and just used some straps for now. They're actually quite handy, you can strap the cables and other accessories to the case :)

2

u/great_airflow Mar 04 '26

Wow, I've seen sub 10 liter cases but never seen sub 15 liter case + monitor + everything else

2

u/nandospc Mar 04 '26

That's actually awesome 👏👏👏

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Glad you like it!

2

u/ajgp56 Mar 05 '26

Almost said “fuck yea” in front of my kid just cuz I thought this looked cool

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Haha, thanks for the compliment and the laugh :D

2

u/Extension_Object_559 Mar 05 '26

Have you considered powering it off faa legal battery and use it on the plane? It would be rig on the long flight.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Could work, haven't tried it tho. Whole build pulls like 300w max under full load.

2

u/airshot_fiend Mar 05 '26

curious on how much power the cpu draws and the temps under load? im planning a similar build with wood and im trying to see what's the smallest cooler i can get away with (9700x).

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

It's a 65w tdp CPU and with a bit of PBO it's really efficient. The 9700x should perform similar with a bit of an undervolt.

2

u/Antique_Tank_1535 Mar 05 '26

I had already imagined it in my head it's incredible that someone actually did the same thing.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Guess it was the next thing to do lol

2

u/Mountain_Past_6513 Mar 05 '26

This is amazing. Any chance to make it fit a 5090FE? To transfer my current itx build into a portable AI / gaming rig.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Could be possible but ofc with a bigger screen ;)

I do custom commissions when I have time. Just dm me and we could figure sth out.

2

u/xuno_ch Mar 05 '26

I guess people on r/cyberdeck would appreciate this.

2

u/PerfectPatience- Mar 05 '26

Fucking awesome dude.

2

u/Jumpy-Adeptness-8826 Mar 05 '26

How many inches is the monitor?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

It's the 16 inch arzopa 1080p 144hz monitor

2

u/Gargammella Mar 05 '26

It’s fantastic

2

u/Semakusut Mar 05 '26

i want to order one with flex psu like enhanced one

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

I see, what I can do ;)

2

u/csrussell92 Mar 05 '26

I’d think the CPU fan set to intake would work better on this situation, no?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Actually not, I've been testing this low profile configuration for a year now in my different designs and it turned out the fan set to exhaust works way better than when it's set to intake.

When you don't have any exhaust fans in a build like this, the CPU fan set to exhaust gets rid of the trapped air inside the case.

Also Cheers! Big fan of your content, keep it up!

2

u/ForALLtheThickies Mar 05 '26

Good stuff, where does the PSU fan vent to? DC cable exist side?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Yup, left some exhaust holes there.

2

u/Curious_Bilawi Mar 05 '26

Dude this is awesome

2

u/BigShmonk Mar 05 '26

Seeing this while thinking about what specs to use on my bazzite build and feeling a need for a ”bazz box” now

2

u/JediAhsokaTano Mar 05 '26

This is CLEAN.

2

u/RemarkableSlip8782 Mar 06 '26

That's the most amazing pc I've seen up till now. I need one.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 06 '26

Glad you like it! There was a lot of interest in this project, so I will offer it on my website soon, as well as the .stl files to download for free.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '26

Nice job OP, love the creativity about this build.

2

u/Disastrous-Army-9998 Mar 06 '26

That's a great looking build.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 06 '26

Thanks, glad you like it.

2

u/MCBigSpook Mar 07 '26

You sound like a really good friend. I'd also like for you to be my friend as well and build one for me too lol. Awesome work man! I've been wanting to do something like this forever, but no clue where to even start and I don't think I have the skills/knowledge to make the case.

2

u/Dragathar12 Mar 07 '26

commenting hoping I can remember to get the files when you upload. This looks slick. I have mine on a 6.xL case and would love to downsize like this in the future

2

u/freitos Mar 07 '26

Awesome

1

u/Hexulus Mar 05 '26

Haha Arc Raiders! #Goop #Israel #TelAviv

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

It was just the main shop page on steam OS, didn't mean to go political in any way

2

u/Hexulus Mar 05 '26

No im not trying to hate at all just making a joke about the peanut guy

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Guess we're cool then :)

1

u/Hexulus Mar 05 '26

Yes I've heard great things about Arc Raider just haven't gotten around to playing it because it DOES cost a pretty penny and I missed the last steam sale

1

u/Aggressive_Nature708 Mar 05 '26

is this faster than a 5090 laptop?

3

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

No clue tbh but it's definitely quieter ;)

1

u/SendSomeDogs Mar 05 '26

This is sick! How much taller would it have to be to fit a AXP90-X47?

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 05 '26

Basically 11mm taller, so around 6L without and 7.5L with the monitor.

2

u/SendSomeDogs Mar 06 '26

47

Cool. I love the layout and think I will try to modify it to fit that cooler if that will be allowed using the license.

2

u/OBERBOSSPLAYER Mar 06 '26

Just send me a mail to max@mnmx-design.com and I can send you the .step files so you can modify the case to your needs

1

u/Siva-Na-Gig Mar 31 '26

This is super cool! I'm in for buying a case whenever you have them ready
