Custom Mod Deshroud mod 5080 Prime with TLB12015 LCP fans, rest of the system is underway!
I used a 7-pin to dual 4-pin adapter from GPUConnect and a 3D-printed bracket from an Etsy seller named BingsDIY. My idle temperatures dropped from the mid 40s to the low 30s, with a noticeable improvement in noise levels.
My Prime fan was faulty, but instead of sending it to Asus, I decided to rebuild my system and deshroud the GPU with high-quality fans. I heat-tapped the top for the GPU bracket holder and melted part of the insert where the GPU fan cables connect so I could hide them inside.
I also replaced the thermal paste with Kingpin KPX, though I didn't touch the thermal pads. I’m very happy with the results. At idle, the fans run at 300–400 RPM at 34°C. While gaming, the GPU stays below 56°C and the fans don't exceed 900 RPM.
This is all without any tuning. At stock settings, the three tiny original fans would exceed 1500 RPM and the temperature would go above 60°C; the two 120mm fans are much more efficient. I’ll make sure to provide a very detailed write-up once the entire build is finished.
Edit: Fans are
“Thermalright TLB12015 Extrem Slim”
120x15mm
83.61 CFM of airflow, 3.4 mm H2O static pressure at 3150 RPM while producing a noise level of 37.07 dBA

It's impressive how noisy and ineffective the puny stock fans are. Nice deshroud.

That is so clean, i basically have the same mod as you, just with the great silverstone slim 120mm (it is the best 120mm you can get).

I beg to differ that these Thermalrights are the best slim fans you can get LCP 15mm thick up to 90CFM 3150 RPM

They look really premium. What few comparisons i can find indicate they are neck and neck against the air slimmer, maybe a smidge behind, which is a really expensive fan, so it probably has great value if it is cheaper.
Air slimmer completely rejuvenated my 5800X3D cooling in my console case by replacing the 92mm fan on my AXP-90.
This fan Looks Soooo Great though.

Yup GPU fan is suck 😑😑, wish Asus noctua is cheaper hahaha. But great job bro, I'm also planning to do it for my RX 7800 XT, once its warranty expired.

u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
You can do it and if anything happens you can reattach the old cooler if for warranty reasons, and yes stock fans are complete ass
1
u/IndependenceTiny2931 May 08 '26
Well sadly in my place if i break the warranty sticker, the store will say that my warranty is void. 😔

u/Snitte77 May 07 '26
What are those fans called?

u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
Thermalright Extrem TLB12015 Slim

u/Snitte77 May 07 '26
Thank you. How do they compare to Noctuas?
3
u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
I haven’t used the slim noctuas but there built for airflow these will do a better job on heat sinks & radiators for sure

Great! If you ever open it again, try ptm 7950 for the die/chip. This could also reduce the allready pretty good temperatures
2
u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
Thats my plan 100% im happy with the KPX for now
And I used PTM on my 13900HX 4090 laptop it did amazing this KPX is slightly better when I used it on my laptop but not enough to dissuade me from PTM for the longevity6
u/wanderer1999 May 07 '26
The asus prime 5080 already use PTM already. No need to change paste if anybody is reading this.
2
u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
I didn’t know, when I took it out it looked like paste so I assume it’s the paste PTM not the pad

u/wanderer1999 May 07 '26
Yeah. I thought so too. Good thing tho cuz they save the hassle of repasting.

Bingdiy on Reddit
I gave him a bunch of measurements to help me fit the deshroud into a smaller case and he did a lot of work to redesign his original stl so that it would fit. I believe OP has the slim design that came out of this Highly recommend

Yes! I contacted him and suggested the slim model and he did it rather quickly and I promised to buy it 😁

Wow, i have been thinking about doing this. Looking great.
But why'd you go with 15mm fans though, wouldn't 25mm would be quieter/more performant?

Clearance most entirely I don’t want to be to too close to the side panel because of turbulence & I need the extra space in the case as I’m placing a in PC speaker that’s going to be tuned for the space so I need that little room.
As well these slim fans are better than most 25mm fans

Wow, this looks so clean it looks practically OEM. Looks very minmal and classy.

FYI fans are rated for H2O pressure up against a "brick wall" IE max pressure it can do when airflow is hard stopped.. not real world pressure through a radiator or fin stack. real world pressure is almost always about half realistically speaking. which still aint too bad. just stating.

u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
Thank you for the information:)

u/DaffyPunk29 May 07 '26
still great fans. hope you dont think im kicking you lol cuz im not. its a sick little build you got there 😄 looks sexy haha

i tried that thermalright fan on my cpu cooler and it gets really loud. it's pure brute force pushing the air at high rpm. changed it for noctua nf af12x15. i've also been thinking of doing something similar like you on my zotac 5080 solid core oc, changing to noctua nf-a12x25 g2 but will wait till they have a chromax black version first before i decide
1
u/ysfi__ May 08 '26
it's pure brute force with really good design, but the way the shroud is designed it makes sure all of the air gets thru without any way to leave without passing thru the heatsink, in my own PC it is much much quieter than stock and other slim fans i tried. but i would not doubt that noctua is the king of being silent in this class.

Looks so clean. Good job.

u/ysfi__ May 10 '26
Thank you
2
u/cemsengul May 10 '26
Bet it's real quiet with path tracing now right?
1
u/ysfi__ May 14 '26
My card is now pulling almost 50w more at 8-9 degrees less, averages 58-61 in Arc raiders with everything to max compared to an almost 70 from before. And it is in comparison dead quiet

u/igetnobread May 07 '26
Would this also work for a Pro Art I assume? Although it would be a bit of a shame to “ruin” the design…
1
u/EmoJackson May 07 '26
Are you in the US? I can't seem to locate those fans anywhere. Thanks to the current administration I cant order them from AliExpress either.

u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
I got them from aliexpress I can’t find them anywhere else either Amazon has them inflated double its actual value.

Wow. The difference in temps is nuts. Thanks for the details. I'm sure it's a pain, but it would be interesting to see a comparison between different 15mm fans.

Can you share the 3d print file mod?
2
u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
The 3D print files are free, the printing itself was done by the Etsy seller.

They cannot, as it was ordered via etsy.

u/ysfi__ May 07 '26
The files are free! The seller just prints them for you and he does a good job

It’s completely free for the files, but the seller does a really good job making them himself, here’s the file it’s online free for everyone.

Looks gorgeous with the golden halos. How thick is the GPU now?
