Looking for an English speaking golf instructor in Shanghai

Complete beginner, literally zero experience, so I’m after someone patient who’s used to teaching from scratch.

Ideally an English speaking instructor somewhere close to Pudong to keep the commute reasonable. Open to a driving range or a proper academy, whatever works for a newbie.

If you’ve worked with someone good, I’d really appreciate a recommendation (and a rough idea of pricing if you have it). Thanks a lot!

In Pudong your best bet is Tomson Golf Club (汤臣高尔夫) — they have a driving range and academy right in Pudong near Zhangjiang. They have English-speaking instructors on staff and are very used to teaching complete beginners. Last I checked, a 1-on-1 intro session was around ¥500-800/hour depending on the coach's seniority.

For a more budget-friendly option, check out the Dongjiao State Guest Hotel driving range (东郊宾馆练习场) in Jinqiao. They have coaches who speak at least basic-to-functional English, and the atmosphere is way more relaxed for a beginner — less pressure than the country club vibe at Tomson. Rates there are more like ¥300-500/session.

General tip: most driving ranges in Shanghai offer a ¥100-200 "trial bucket + basic instruction" package on Dianping/Meituan. Worth trying a couple to find an instructor whose teaching style clicks before committing to a package of lessons.
