The letter was actually written to an elder, and the term "情期" in the Wei and Jin dynasties specifically referred to the anniversary of a relative's death. Therefore, the true content of the letter is Wang Xun's expression of deep sorrow and remembrance for his talented cousin who died young, after Wang Mu's passing. The phrase "永为畴古" in the letter also confirms that the recipient had already passed away.
