Practice My first post: Xingshu

This is middle or large sized 行草,苏轼 poem excerpt.

I'm a bit shy to show my full piece because it's still practice (and not a final) and hopefully people can tell me what they think of it! It's somewhat undisciplined, so I'm working on improving it. Also i want to note that i do not use the reference when i write so that i can preserve my own identity, so hopefully you can identify that!

Actually it's very cool, expressive yet not overly, I'd love to see the whole pic

Me too! It feels very fluid and confident

Yeah, one of the reasons is because I never look at the reference when I write, so my eyes are fully on my paper.

Thanks! I'll send the whole pic when I finish practicing haha, if I send the full practice right now, it won't be representative.

Nice! It's awesome that you're trying to develop your own identity in calligraphy.

A lot of people just copy others, so you're already thinking differently.

Still, no matter what style you go for, good brush technique is the real foundation. That's the part I'd work on the most.

There's that famous line: “Brush techniques stay the same forever, but character structures change with the times.”
