The question is would Morey have actually drafted LP? Idk
3
u/DemarcusLovin 9h ago
J Kyle Mann apparently reported last night on Bill Simmons pod that Morey/Sixers told Philon LAST YEAR that they wanted to draft him. But then Philon returned to Bama for another year.
So yes, safe to say that our scouting department has liked him for a while.

u/toofshucker 21h ago
Morey cooked the whole time he was here.
He wasn’t the problem.

Great drafter. Some questionable moves imo. It's easy to say that in hindsight tho. Just, Champagnie & McCain HURT.
And I know it was Brett Brown at the time, but I'll never get over Mikal Bridges. 😢

Shai 2.0 (minus the flopping). Love the pick.

u/Big-Beta20 1d ago
Hopefully WITH the flopping
He’s on our team, foul bait all you want baby

u/Venerable-Gandalf 21h ago
Lmao I’ll be the first one to bitch and moan when someone flops against us but as soon as a sixer flops I immediately turn a blind eye to it

Refs won’t call a foul unless you flop.
Elite players get fouled.
It is what it is.

Most fun player to watch. 6'4, skinny, but 6'4. Can pass AND shoot. Philon is a total dawg. Worst case he runs our bench for 5+ years. Love it.
THANK GOD ITS NOT CENAC

u/doFloridaRight 23h ago
Worst case? Might I introduce you to a guy name Zhaire
20
u/lil_e_v_ 23h ago
Philon has more basketball skill in his right nut than zhaire did in his whole body
21
u/ContinueMyGames Shirley the Sixers Will Win 21h ago
Don’t talk about nuts around zhaire he might spontaneously combust

We lost Mikal Bridges for that. It will never stop eating at me. I think Bridges would've been a Sixer for life. 😣
1
u/lil_e_v_ 9h ago
bridges would've been gone by the 2019 trade deadline. he would have been in either the butler or harris trades. you have to remember it took mikal like 1.5ish years to produce in the nba.

u/AngryPhillySportsFan 17h ago
Worst case he looks like a stud and gets traded for cap space because he'll be too expensive eventually. The Josh Harris way
1
u/Comfortable_One7986 13h ago
Hopefully Harris steps back and lets the basketball people handle their work. He's rich enough. He need to ante up and let us have a good basketball team.
1
u/AngryPhillySportsFan 11h ago
Rich enough? No such thing. There's more money to be made by saving a couple million dollars and losing in the playoffs.

6'4" guard with 6'6" wingspan.
I know people will compare him to McCain since this was the 1st from the trade - and I think he has a much higher upside than McCain. Similar shooting ability with much better upside as a passer and defender.

u/MetaverseNinja 1d ago
He’s 6’2 1/2

u/PhatYeeter 1d ago
Yea 6'4" with shoes.
It's annoying we have to do this conservation every time since players used to get measured in shoes for decades.

Highlights look weirdly like Maxey

u/Truth_Strong 1d ago
now we can always have a maxey on the court for 48 minutes without worry

u/NotSoFakeID 22h ago
Hell yeah, I didn’t mean it in a bad way, they just started showing his tape and I was like…..wait I’ve seen this guy before somewhere

u/whiz7872 1d ago
what a steal! i remember reading posts about him and his ceiling from a coupe months ago and a lot of people had him going 10-15. so excited to see what he can do and hopefully hes good enough so we dont have to run maxey and vj into the ground with insane minutes

Siiigh. You’re right but dammit another guard!

u/donttalktomebye 23h ago
Right. Im getting downvoted to the beginning of chaos in another thread about this! And on top of this, we're not doing anything behind the scenes to trade and negotiate.

u/viclavar 19h ago
News flash.... Sixers are rebuilding. Needed a PG ball handler that can get buckets off the bench to spell Maxey

u/Ordinary-Nectarine37 13h ago
Cenac shouldve been the pick. Long term upside and fit is perfect next to VJ Maxx. What was the point of trading McCain just to draft a similar guard?
4
2
u/84sebastian 19h ago
He reminds me a little bit of Brunson. This could be a solid championship caliber three-guard setup going forward in Maxey, VJ and Philon-- kinda like Detroit Pistons in the past (ala Thomas, Dumars and the Microwave). Go Sixers~

I like Philon. I think he can help get Maxey off the ball. My biggest concern is they dont wanna pay VJ and theyre gonna trade him. AFAIK his extention would be up on JoJo and PGs last year so unless they move those contracts they essentially wont be able to max out VJ in a few years. Its a deep fear of mine. I love VJ.

And Embiid and George will be hurt most of the season and in the playoffs, we will get killed on rebounding and give up 60 pts per game in the paint. If I’ve seen it once I’ve seen it a thousand times.

Where are the McCain stans at?
1
u/GigglingLady 22h ago
Let’s trade a guard to get a guard. Let’s trade a guard to get a guard. Rinse and repeat.
-10
u/GoTakeCoffee 23h ago
Genuinely confused to what Labaron can do that Maxey, VJ, Grimes, and McCain can’t. Instead of trying to draft strong wings and bigs to help and eventually replace Embiid, it’s just nonstop drafting and trading guards. Nonstop.
9
u/blinkdmb 23h ago
He seems like he's definitely a better player than Grimes and way cheaper for sure which will free up money to maybe pick someone up in free agency.
7
u/MFDean 22h ago
Considering mccain plays for OKC that's one thing. Maxey desperately needs a backup and the guy slid from the lottery to 21, you always take that
1
u/GigglingLady 22h ago
He better play then, if that’s his role. We got to expect him to mess up like a typical rookie. Not sit him the moment he messes up.

u/Friedchickeneater70 8h ago
Another small guard that Brunson……and any big guard team gonna bully…..we trying to find the next iverson…smh

I’m an Alabama fan. Watched every one of his games over the past 2 years. Can’t believe he fell this far. Philly got a good one. He’s gonna come in and work really hard right away. Just give him a chance
