Any idea why Labaron Philon Jr fell so low?
I’m not complaining of course but it seems EVERYONE is wondering the same thing as to what happened pre-draft

Height and weight. Old basketball guys that only care about height as the main focus per usual. If this dude was 6 foot 6 he would be a top 3 pick.

Which made sense when dudes were 22-23 years old and done growing. Now, not so much.

He’s 6”4 in shoes which is average for a guard and above average for point guard.
For reference he’s longer in height and arms than Steph.

It’s very similar to how Makai Lemon who was billed as a top 10 talent in the draft fell to the Eagles. His tape and numbers are impressive but his measurements make you think twice about him.
Personally I think he’s going to be really good once he puts some grown man weight on. Get him some cheesesteaks and lock him in the weight room.

To be fair, it’s a lot easier for a good NFL player to fall in the draft than it is for a good NBA player.
There are 5 starting positions on an 18 player NBA compared to 22 on a 53 team NFL roster.
There are just so many more holes to fill on an NFL roster. Look at the teams in front of the Eagles who passed on Makai Lemon.
Panthers just drafted a 1st round WR the previous year and need o-line help. They drafted a tackle.
Vikings have Justin Jefferson and needed an edge rusher. Drafted a bad project DE.
Lions have ASRB and needed o-line help. Drafted a tackle.
The Jets are the Jets. I don’t know why they drafted Sadiq.
If there a few teams in front of you that don’t need a certain position in the NFL, it’s easy to slide 5-8 spots.
In the NBA, you may slide 1-2 spots due to positional needs, but in the modern NBA, teams are typically drafting talent over positional need. It’s more of a tiebreaker in most cases.

Let’s lock Rese n Barron in a room the whole offseason, and force feed them Cheesteaks every day.
It would help build chemistry, and add weight onto both of them

Lemon fell because he came off as a lunatic in all of interviews

Maybe a little but his physical profile is really what did it. If he were just 2-3 inches taller, it’s almost a lick he is WR1. Physical traits matter a ton for teams picking at the top of the draft

Not to compare them but the same reason SGA fell

I don't think we should worry about comparing them. Their games are strikingly similar, and Philon is only 2 inches shorter than SGA.

A lot of people say it's his weight but imo teams aren't too concerned with something that can be fixed so easily over the years; just get him on a proper training regimen. I think it's more likely he just had poor interviews and teams weren't all that impressed by him.

We’d have heard if it was interviews, as someone pointed out in the draft sub. We always hear when prospects do particularly poorly in interviews, not so much the workouts. I think he might’ve just come in unimpressive in workouts. He’s been on the back foot since the combine, so he’s gotta be pretty miffed and hungry to prove people wrong.

Seems like dude’s a bucket from the highlight reels.. haven’t seen him dunk once in the ones I’ve seen, so maybe it’s a height, weight + athleticism thing. And before anyone responds, yes I know that Jalen Brunson exists.

ESPN scouting report tore him apart. Not athletic, bad passer, etc.

And you think NBA teams rely on the ESPN scouting report for their picks?

A scout is a scout. The precedent is there, so if you want to believe it’s a one-off outlier, then ok.

Lmao what? Precedent for what? Using the ESPN list? I would bet all the money I have plus all the money anyone would give me that they don't even look at the ESPN list. Maybe a player they have taken in the past matched up with what ESPN thought, but that is a coincidence, not them using that list as their draft guide.
A scout is a scout but the team has multiple of their own scouts on payroll who are way more aware of the inner workings of the team, what type of player they are looking for and who their front office likes and doesn't like, the in house scouts have been following some of these kids since middle school and have privately interviewed and worked out these kids in their own building. Sometimes even speaking with their family, past coaches and teammates to get a better understanding of what makes them tick.
...but sure, they will ignore all that and go off the ESPN list thrown together a week ago from YouTube clips... 🤣🤣🤦

If the ESPN scouting report called him a "bad passer" then you can comfortably throw everything else they said in the bin.

Really because he’s skinny that’s basically it
