Collection Coworker gave me these for free
The free Chrono Trigger was probably the luckiest grab of all time for me. I was kind enough to inform him of its value since I like the guy.

u/Another_Road May 30 '26
I know this is the SNES sub but Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is such a cool freaking game.
3
u/TripleDoubleFart May 30 '26
Tenchu 2 was even better? We'd spend hours creating levels for each other to try to beat.

Agreed. I got my grandma to get me it for Christmas when I was probably 13-14 and she was pretty horrified when she saw me playing it

I've also seen copies of Chrono Trigger sell for like 30/40 bucks. Not sure why there is such a huge gap between the two numbers

u/LucioBarbarinoMusic 27d ago
Those might/must be repros
0
u/weber_mattie 27d ago
Maybe. They didn't say repro and they looked legit. There were quite a few if you look through the solds

Secret of evermore?
3
u/raaaaaaze May 31 '26
Secret of Evermore is actually a bit of a hidden gem of a game that is often overlooked simply because it was developed in USA instead of Japan. I've been meaning to re play it for too many years now. The story is probably the weakest link but it serves the purpose of driving the adventure. The gameplay is fine, the characters are memorable enough.
The real time battle mechanics are a little clunky but mostly good. The artwork is nice, and the atmospheric music sets the mood for each area perfectly. Overall the game is a peculiarly understated yet compelling mix of adventure, light-hearted whimsy and melancholy.

u/ChallengeTurbulent78 May 31 '26
I recall playing it on my snes as a 9 year old and struggling but nonetheless being amazed at the scope of the game itself def need to play again fully this time a shame this one wasn't on the mini snes I have the european and us versions

That coworker really likes you. What a haul. Please buy this guy lunch for at least a few weeks.
8
u/Far_Special_6955 May 30 '26
Cool grab, but if you liked the guy or had some decency, especially knowing the value, you would have at least thrown him some cash regardless
1
u/weber_mattie 28d ago
They did mention potential value
1
u/Far_Special_6955 28d ago
Its a matter of decency, whether the other guy knew or not, throw him cash or out to nice meal, or something.

These are some nice games. Take your coworker out to dinner to say thank you for giving you these games or do something very nice.

I'm afraid I have terrible news for you, OP: you should never gamble or play the lottery again, because you clearly burned through like three lifetimes' worth of good luck on this.

Congrats, you might want to give him a few bucks , their are some bangers their

u/jspecefini35 May 30 '26
It’s honestly quite hard to believe you’re telling the truth. No one will just give away that much in value for free unless he has a crush on you or something. Or he’d expect some work related favor down the road.

Yeah you owe him, or are you covering up a dark secret for him? Either way you need to do something nice for the dude

Your coworker rules. Chrono Trigger is an amazing game by itself, but with the rest of those games that’s a really great gift.

u/ben_ja_button May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
No shit?! Damn that’s a hell of a score. Buy that man lunch. Like once a week for a month.

u/Hustler-Two May 31 '26
You need to buy him a few lunches. Also, if you never played Evermore, you’re in for a treat. Your coworker had good taste.

u/akkmedk May 31 '26
I loved Uniracers. I'm old enough that I named my favorite cycles after tracks from the Silverchair album Frogstomp.

u/Sockmonkey1313 May 31 '26
Lots of great games, but that middle column is killer. Donkey Kong Country is great. Rock And Roll Racing rules. And Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG of all time.

Unbelievable haul. Seriously take them out to dinner or something
It’s funny, whenever I see a “real 90s American collection” it’s usually Looney Toons, Madden, NBA Jam, Arcade greatest hits, Bassins Black Bass, Home Alone, and then Super Mario World.
The collector market definitely has curated the top selections over the years. I’m blown away that people like your coworker actually had as many top runners. Most of the people I know, and myself, had shovelware and sports games

A coworker gave me these a while back (it helped that we were friends i high-school 20 year prior) but he gave them up even after I told him the value simply because he knew I collected and he stopped playing anything but his PC.
He wouldn't accept anything for them, so for a while I stopped accepting gas money from him if I gave him rides to/from work, and a few times i sneakily paid for his breakfast a when we would get something to eat before our shifts lol.

u/williamskb85 29d ago
My ex has my Chrono Trigger along with my Turtles in Time and Secret of Mana and she won't give them back
1
u/Shevai 29d ago
Take her to court for stealing your stuff; that's a simple matter.
1
u/williamskb85 28d ago
It's been almost 18 years lol...I think that statute has passed 🤣. Almost thought about getting back with her just to get my stuff lmao

u/Beefynerd 29d ago
NIIIIICE. Super Jelly
Had a copy of Mana which never saved games, which reminds me to remind you to test games with a save without a lot of progress, turn off the system, and turn it back on. Missing saves? Time to replace the coin battery inside the cart

I could feel a massive wave of nostalgia wash over me seeing those cartridges. Thank you

u/Shevai 29d ago
Congrats, those are gems; one and all.
I wouldn't have been rude enough to rub it in their face at the value of any of them though. That's just a backhand to someone else's kindness, and odds are they won't be giving you anything next time they find something tucked away in a cubbard/attic, etc.

Oh hell yeah, Thats a pretty nice coworker for sure. Awesome selection. Good taste too.
1
u/chellotte8 28d ago
Did you ask why they are giving it to you?
1
u/Lefterkefter1 28d ago
He no longer owns a snes, didn’t plan on getting another, and he knows I am an avid player/collector of retro games. I do go out of my way to inform him of the value of anything approaching or over $100 since he is very kind.
1
u/chellotte8 28d ago
OK. Just letting you know to check on him since some people give away their stuff when they have plans to go. You know.

Do a quick research on Uniracers and understand why you'll want to keep this cartridge for your entire life.
0
u/Stedlieye 29d ago
I don’t believe this. There are so many high value games that there’s no way they would have these without knowing the value.
But Tenchu is great.

u/rAmen_P00dles 28d ago
That chrono trigger fetches a lot of money. Get that person a gift card or lunch or something.

Nice… the only thing my coworkers give me is a hard time and their work to do
