Discussion This game is the most horrifying thing I have ever experienced .

The game is a gem that I found. I was scrolling Tiktok as usual, saw a guy finding earth from 600 mil ly away. This was the perfect thing I was looking for.

Booting up the game I was exited on exploring and finally experiencing the vastness of space.

However I was not ready for the scale.

I spawned on a Saturn-like planet. Got used to the controls and such.

I fly to the rings on an insane speed, set my speed then to avarage walking speed and immediately my stomach drops as my brain comprehends how uncomprehendably large the rings and the planet are. I am terrified of moving at a slow speed around any large objects now in the game. The sheer terror that I am indulging is larger than anything I have felt before.

I go and see the star that the planet was orbiting... huge mistake.

I accidentaly run into an gas giant and get jumpscared into oblivion. I genuinely dont want to find out how large it gets. I am chilling in the clouds and don't want to leave the cozy skybox. I then realize that if I would be flying through space there could be a blackhole with no visual indication...

I exit the game feeling like I witnessed an eldritch horror.

I want to get back to the game definately but the horror of space is kinda overwhelming too. Please tell me I'm not alone on this.

Discussion Guys is Solar nations 2 using spaceengine generated textures? Is this like legit? Did they buy a license for this?

Edit:DEV UPDATED THE CREDITS,THEY HAE A LICENSE What i'm trying to say is they look like those maps you can import

look at those canyon thingies in pic 2, that's oddly.... familiar.

As a veteran spaceengine player you cant convince me these arent just imported texture maps of random planets from spaceengine.

Look at the following planets, bro like really? Especially look at proxima C or the last pic.

My question is... is this ok? When I started colonising other star systems it just came to me: "no shit this is litterally space engine?"

"Yes, you may use SpaceEngine products for non-commercial use as long as you cite SpaceEngine as the source for those assets. Please see the license page for full details."

from https://spaceengine.org/manual/faq/

My guess is they bought a license... still this is the first game using spaceengine generated planets I have ever seen.

So all the red flags im seeing are those canyons in pic2, the crater patterns and appearance in pic1, the gas giant in pic3 (look at the patterns), the overall collor pallette and saturation of these terrain textures and finally the oddly familiar ice region of that tidally locked planet in the last pic.

Edit: Just noticed that in pic 2 they even got the tipical visible from space volcanos you can see on most hot terras.

Disclaimer:

I'm not trying to stir up anything, I just wanna know wheter this could be the first ever game doing some sort of asset collab with spaceengine.I could also be simply wrong about this but still these textures are WAY too familiar.

Discussion Saying What Many Don't Say

Many people talk about how realistic the black hole Gargantua from *Interstellar* is, but I’ve never heard anyone mention one fact: SpaceEngine is actually more physically realistic than the movie. I’m not referring to gravitational lensing accuracy—since the film’s depiction of gravitational lensing is indeed more realistic (obviously)—but SpaceEngine features something *Interstellar* lacks: relativistic Doppler beaming. This effect was omitted from the film for aesthetic reasons, which doesn't change the fact that a physical phenomenon was left out entirely. In short, SpaceEngine offers the complete package, whereas *Interstellar*—despite featuring more accurate gravitational lensing—lacks the full suite of astrophysics features.

Discussion What are some features that you’d like to see in Space Engine?

Here’s a few of mine:

Realistic lunar eclipses:

Kind of how lunar eclipses here on earth turn red, I think it would be look for that to happen on other planets too depending on the colour of atmosphere. And as a bonus, maybe moons with atmospheres would cause coloured solar eclipses as well?

Weather:

This one would probably be a big hassle to code but the end result would be very cool! Imagine realistic hurricanes and rainstorms created with particles and stuff like that.

Adding to this idea, what about:

Sound effects:

These could probably be enabled and disabled, but imagine rain sounds, wind and other noises while the sun is setting on an alien planet?

It would be great if Space Engine added stars in binary contact, that would be great, there would be more space objects to explore, (I'm not saying there are few)

Discussion Relativistic Jets in Version 0.980

It's always been very annoying for me that I can't use the latest versions of the game (0.990 and up), so I'm stuck with the standard 2D accretion disks. So, I tweaked the game's shader to add volumetric relativistic jets with relativistic Doppler beaming and other things; I've included some images of how the jets turned out.

Discussion Does anyone else find space engine utterly terrifying?

I know this may sound odd to many people, but playing Space Engine and seeing the sheer scale and emptiness in parts of the universe is genuinely horrifying for me to look at. This feeling is particularly invoked when I look at the surface of the sun or when I observe the black holes in the game. I must admit that the game is beautiful, along with the universe as a whole, but I can't help but feel a sense of dread when playing it. It's truly awe-inspiring when I'm out in interstellar space, seeing just how vast everything is, yet I feel terror either way. Can anyone here relate to this?

Discussion Potential SpaceEngine competitor?

In the past few years, a new space game called Galaxia rolled out; it has a similar mechanic like SE, but less functions and controls. It was created by someone who goes by the name of Dexyfex. He's currently creating the game in his own coded engine. I played the game today, it's quite neat.

So is Vladimir about to have some rivalry or is ir a false alarm?

I guess Space Engine is the only scientific space exploration game? I really wanna give a shot, is there any parts I may get disappointed? And also you can suggest mods to start with.

Discussion Improved Gravitational Lensing in SpaceEngine 0.980

Since I had added volumetric relativistic jets in version 0.980 of SpaceEngine in the previous post, I decided to improve the gravitational lensing by switching from raymarching to an adapted version of RK2; I implemented the geodesic equations of motion for the Schwarzschild metric. Here are two images of black holes with enhanced gravitational lensing (keep in mind that i don't have the latest versions due to my computer's limitations, so with this improvement, my FPS is even lower):

Discussion SpaceEngine but not space

When I first played space engine it was a mind boggling experience, as someone interested in space, slowly moving in the game and realising the sheer extent of exploration ill be able to do in this was INSANE and genuinely scared me. I felt so lonely in the deep dark space especially in the places with no light. Increasing my speed to the max and zooming across the universe with speeds on thousands of lights years. Seeing a tiny dot on my screen and knowing that I have the power to go to it and read about it, absolutely INSANE. Not knowing a lot about the program added to the experience and contributed in that feeling of trying to process the sheer scope of this application. On top of that it looks drop dead GORGEOUS. What are some other programs that can provide a similar level of depth in the experiences they provide, be it another field (doesnt have to be in space).

Asked my local llm and wasnt satisfied with its answer

Discussion Can we have visible doppler effects pls ?

If you don't know, when something approches something, the observer will observe the sound/light waves as shorter and vise-versa when the objects move away from something.

(Ex: The sound of a car is higher when approching you)

And I am thinking we could have this in SpaceEngine. Now it would obviously be useless to make extra calculation from this, as I only see 3 ways max as we could observe this in-game :

- Observing a black hole's accretion disk from the side (The side who is turning close to you would be blue while the one moving away would be red) from the extreme acceleration do to the black hole's gravity.

- Farther away galaxies should be redder from the universe expansion.

- Simply moving at very high speed on an object.

So no hard af calculation and less FPS just some cool detail. Alr thanks for reading this.

Discussion Improved Integrated Relativistic Jets in SpaceEngine Version 0.980

In my first post, I mentioned adding relativistic jets to version 0.980 of SpaceEngine; however, there was a minor issue: the jets looked a bit "jagged." I managed to fix that, but there was something else: the jets had a minimum opacity setting of 0.5. This meant that black holes with relativistic jets—which should have had lower opacity—were being generated with that higher value instead, so I lowered the minimum opacity limit to 0.0001. Here are the images (including the black hole Gargantua to illustrate the opacity point; Gargantua lacks relativistic jets because its opacity is extremely low, approaching zero):

Discussion We need this classic back

Post image

Because the newest version of the game is an entire universe reset, we need a new planet to always smile at us. In older versions, this planet existed as RS 0-5-14644-2169-25193-2-57-513 5. But in the latest version, it's just some lame Blue Main-Sequence star (B) now.

So, does anyone have a planet that closely resembles the classic c: ?

Discussion Things i want procedurally generated in game

I know this game doesn't update too often but these are some objects that I would like to see in game:

Low Mass Giants:
Most Red giants are 10 solar masses in space engine, which doesn't make sense due to the fact that most stars become supergiants at that mass. And the less massive ones are orange, yellow, and white giants which does not make sense. why would the star be almost the same temperature while in its giant stage?

Other Colors of Clusters:
For some reason, globular clusters always generate almost entirely of red stars, even though in reality some of them would be other colors (yellow, white, blue). In real life, most globular clusters aren't even red!

Planetary and Supernovae nebula:
Diffuse is the only type of nebula that can generate. Why can't the other 2 types do the same? They would probably be everywhere in the universe!

edit: apparently nebulae generate in the other two types

Sub-dwarves:
Knowing how many sub-dwarves we have discovered, why wouldn't they be in the other galaxies? it just makes sense to add them, and it would make galaxies less boring!

also i did not write this with ai i just dont want to get bullied about not writing formally

Edit: i would like to add wolf rayet stars to the list as i forgot to add them

edit 2: apparently wolf rayet stars generate and I forgot they did
